i envy those still getting ranked matches lol. Could this be internal MMR at work averaging out?
Always knew the system was total dog----, and this just proves it.
A couple of patches ago, some switch was flipped that allowed rainbow matches to occur (more often) on the EU and US servers. Rainbow lobby matches (such as in the OP) is still a rare occurrence. However, Diamond and above ranked players, no doubt encounter rainbow matches more often compared to the majority of those in lower ranks, simply as there are (and always has been) fewer high skilled players to match.
As you surmise, I believe the above is MMR averaging, extreme edition. If I recall, you play on the SEA server, and are probably aware that ANZ/SEA, and other low population servers, have been experiencing rainbows lobbies for years now and more frequently.
I think it was in 2017, that a Dev made a post stating they removed an MM rule for ANZ/SEA that prohibited rainbow matches (such as the above) to be created, after several master players posted their queue times which were not just hours long, but sometimes in days.
Try and make a better MM with only a few 1000 players left in your game and come back and tell us how it went. MM was fine when the game was at its peak. Now when alot of players have left there are nothing it can do but to make rainbow matches for those who still plays it. Thats is not because the MM itself is crap. That is because of low playerbase.
People that still complain about trash matchmaking in 2025 need to come down to Earth and be realistic.
Yeah the ranked matches are borderline impossible to find. The Asian servers got split now into Korean and Taiwan servers now.
All matches are complete rainbows at this point, some matches you get people who take globes and work together and next match you get people who donāt even know how to back track .
All in all still fun, aram and qm are the only viable game modes now unless you want to wait 30 minutes for 1 ranked match
Heard this same argument, with bigger player number, 3 years ago, 5 years ago, before maintenance⦠Iām glad MM was fine for you. I didnāt play during the peak, but I can see complaints about 5 premades getting matched vs non 5s from back then. I can tell you it wasnāt fine, and thatās why people have been steadily leavingā¦
This is really simiral problem from the beginning. 5x players with 70+% win rate vs 5x players with <50% win rate⦠Its hard to find balanced game ;/
How often? dude almost every game lmao. It have been happening for the las 2-3 months ago, at least in BR server. To be honest i prefer to wait 20 min for a ranked game, i dont want to see a bronze 5 again in my life.
The worst part is to be diamond-plat bcs ur gonna be paired with those kids with brain dmg (Bronze 10) much more often. And lets not talk about being gold, 100% games with at least 1 bronze 10, 50% to have 2 in the same teamā¦
Yeah that usually happends too, im not against it, is pretty funny to make the premade 5x high elo smurf team ragequit after you defeat them 2-3 times in a row with randoms, but is pretty hard to not answer with āabusive chatā to the flamer bronze kids who dont even know what they are playing and still they want to āteachā you something with free insults
Its system was terrible well before the player drop.
Thats a lie. 5 stacks was rare to face if you were in a duo team. Maybe 1 out of 20 games was vs a 4-5 stack as solo player back in the days. And we had alot more good players to play with/againt.
Now you have to pray you get good players and not a team full of trolls and afk players.
This is a game where:
- using the minimap is considered cheating
- aiming skillshots is considered cheating
- stutter stepping isā¦
- soaking xp isā¦
The devs had to make a special event to try to convey the importance of getting xp and people still donāt do it. Instead they brawl/feed mid, complain that the game snowballs, forces loses, and has whatever else boogieman story to personally hold them down.
Matchmakers are simply a sorting system, and when the players are effectual refuse* that refuses to learn to do better, then it doesnāt really matter how it sorts.
* note: ārefuseā has a noun form apart from the verb definition
The fact is they even removed the specificities of the game to reduce the negative impact of brawling too much. Adding XP globes, they removed XP from forts and keeps, they removed towers ammo, they made fountains invulnerable. I have always believed that everything has been done to allow brawls all days.
im not watching this, make a post., not a link to your desperate utube channel.
If both teams had the same potatoes, it would be a different story. Too often 1 team is overall far worse than the other. Maybe hotsā mmr system needs an update.
Also, if most of the community is bad, it tells things of the game itself. Maybe the shared xp is a failed experiment, since others can feed more than you soak in lane, making the whole game a coinflip whether itās better to rotate with the potatoes and steal some kills back, or lane.
Yeah - getting a match at all as a Grand Master has to rely on rainbow games in 2025 outside peak hours.
The other alternative is not playing at all (which I do think high ranked players would prefer, if the alternative is going into a B5 match).
Thatās indeed what high elo players are doing, they make smurfs to play daily and they only play with their high elo accounts the last 2 days of the season to not lose rank for the pairing with potatoes bronze 10 kids, so they have fun and dont lose rank in their important account at the same time
smurfing exists, so people competing to actively get to the lowest low prevents each side from having āthe same potatoesā. No game system can evaluate actual āskillā from intentional effort. Games, like much of society, is dependent on common cooperation for it to function. However, the efforts to try to globalize āeveryoneā into a āgamerā means thereās a higher draw of the anti-social and uncooperative that want to play something apart from anyone else in the same activity.
On the other hand, some games/devs intentionally cater to their speedrunning community, so there are players that use deviant conduct for positive interactions as āspeedrunningā is also a way of playing a game in a way apart from casual play.
Itās called āgiving upā. Once people stop trying, then of course theyāll be āfar worseā than the other side.
When a game is trendy and āaliveā people may be more motivation to improve the game, and improve the community around the game. Once a game is ādedā, people stop caring and let their apathy and antipathy play for them.
No, itās called ā1 team is overall far worse than the otherā. If I get 1 or 2 people that get constantly killed while laning/ taking camps and they still overextend to soak xp, face check bushes and try to steal enemy camps (not murky), while enemy team is capable to rotate together and gank without getting pushed in any lane, theyāre far better than my team. Theyāre far better than the average team I get, even.
If you want to believe they āgave upā after first death and thatās why they keep making the same terrible choices (seems you know for a fact theyāre all better than that, but they just āgive upā in most of their games), thatās good for you, but then, Iād like an equal amount of players that āgive upā on each team . And if weāre at it, I want an equal amount of smurfs too on each team.
Gameās had a decade already, and muradins/butchers/etcs and so on still pick talents giving stacks of (physical) armor vs tracer, healers run past their teammates to do some mediocre damage instead of help (if they donāt go clear camps or solo lane), johannas blind mages and die to auto attackers, murkys notice they die instantly during octo grab andā¦of course, go q on 20, anas and novas pick the absolute worst talents. I donāt think thereās a hero that I didnāt see people pick random talents on, while having over lvl 10 on it.
Iād say the problem is what (kind of) players HOTS attracts, keeps and rewards. Most of the community would have long been banned from any other game, for quitting games, playing on 2 apm, or feeding because the game took more than 15 mins and their 3 neurons canāt handle any teamfights. Even better, you get reported for calling them out for feeding (and their report is worth more than yours).
Yeah, HotS does attract, and did attract, the most casual crowd of any Moba.
And the responsibility falls on Blizzard - they marketed this as a fun āteam brawlerā instead of a full fledged MOBA.
Then it canāt come as a huge surprise the vast majority of players just want to brawl all game with their selected Blizzard nostalgia hero from 2002.
The game did attempt to go āseriousā with HGC - it didnāt pan out. They also treated their professionals (who had decided to practice HotS 8+ hours daily as a job) terribly and just completely cut them off with no forewarning.
