Noob question about deathballs vs laning

I’ve been noticing that a lot of quickmatches begin with both teams in a deathball on center lane. But everything I’ve heard has suggested it’s most important to lane properly in early game. That makes sense to me: if the enemy deathball gets a kill, they get significant XP for it, but as long as your center-laners keep out of range of the enemy, the worst case is a successful push to your towers on one lane, while you push to the towers on two lanes and soak the XP for it.

However, suggesting this in team chat has been met with significant disapproval (read: they yelled at me for not being in the deathball). Is there some kind of deathball META in this game that isn’t being discussed in beginner’s guides, or were my teammates simply wrong?

Huh. Egg on my face, then. Thanks!

No problem. I do highly recommend NotParadox for learning a lot about various aspects of the game. His videos are all superb.

Good response
Everyone only started doing this maybe…a year or two ago. It wasn’t always a thing.

This is assuming people are smart enough to read talents of heroes the don’t play. Which 90% of the playerbase are clueless of heroes talents.

I firmly believe that every single one of these players is just waiting for that game for either of the following:

  1. An opponent that is either new to the game and has no concept of what to do or how to move. Moves incredibly out of position and gets destroyed.

  2. Similar to situation one but the enemy team player is deliberately throwing and walking into enemy towers.

Always deathball at level 1.

Get vision and get that 1st kill – it is an attack on their moral and helps you win!

Most players, especially in Qm, are inexperienced. Also, players tend to want to fight no matter what.

Early game, a hero kill is worth less experience than a minion wave (This eventually scales, which is why teams don’t split up as much after Lvl 10)

So if the enemy team gets a kill mid, and you have players soaking top and bot, they will be at an xp disadvantage. Even worse if they lost a wall or tower.

This is why I hate playing support in Qm btw. Because I have to go to an ignored lane, and my value as a support is zero then.
