Blizz stops producing additional for-purchase content in SC2.
Start to worry one day HOTS won’t have new heroes. HOTS is mostly a free game so the condition should be worse than SC2
Wait what?? when did they announce that?
they’re making “commanders” in SC2? cringe
Today
We’re going to continue supporting StarCraft II in the same manner as we have with our previous longstanding games, such as Brood War, focusing primarily on what our core and competitive communities care about most. What this means is that we’re not going to be producing additional for-purchase content, such as Commanders and War Chests, but we will continue doing season rolls and necessary balance fixes moving forward.
This could mean they’re shifting people away from SC2 and to a SC title currently in development though. They did say this
We know some of our players have been looking forward to some of the things we’re moving away from, but the good news is this change will free us up to think about what’s next, not just with regard to StarCraft II, but for the StarCraft universe as a whole.
who knows, maybe they’re working on SC3
Shift SC2 people to make more SC2 heroes to HOTS!
Sigh
At this rate SC3 will be as colorful, bright and happy as heartstone.
i first laughed because of how ridiculous it sounds…then i stoped once i realized whats the name of the company running the show now …
Right? I mean Co-op is only the most popular mode in the game, by a significant margin. Why would they waste time developing it?
I want the UED as it’s own faction.
The UED is supposed to be the most technologically advanced faction in the Galaxy, Rivaling and potentially surpassing the Protos. They should not be just another faction of Terran.
Terran tech is so good thanks to Duran and Protoss presence unlike the isolated UED. Also, Protoss tech sky rocked after the 2 great war.
I only hope they keep purple/indigo tinge for the Zerg. Also let’s get a RIP for the Swarm. No Queen rules forever I guess.
Give them 10 more years.
It’s a shame Ghost never came out.
At least Diablo 4 looks to be shifting back toward the dark it was meant to be.
So maybe there’s hope.
I now worry that Heroes of the Storm is next.
Starcraft 2 Co op didn’t fan demanded characters like Selendis or Tosh. We might not see Grom Hellscream, Baal, Karax, Cairne Bloodhoof, Zenyatta etc. in Heroes of the Storm…
That day was always coming?
The question has always been when, not if.
The setup of the F2P business models are super different.
“AAA” developers see RTS games as a dead end currently iirc.
Only as much?
I want MORE, we beat hearthstone in these key areas!!
As we watch the child of Kerrigan and Raynor play with toys of the races in her room.
Gotta blame the cough for it.
Hope D4 and shadowlands delivers as we lost HGC plus developpement of both hots and SC2 for it.
I’d love if they’d work on Warcraft 4, instead.
The failure of Reforged may have taught them. Heck, given WoW you may not even need much of a storyline prepped for it. Just update WC3 as a whole new and modern game with the stories of World of Warcraft and you have a cash cow of an RTS and give us War3 players an updated experience just as SC1 players got.
I was overall skeptical of SC2 when it came out, tbh. It felt that Blizz only milks the franchise but over the time its gameplay evolved into something really interesting. Sure, story was more miss than hit but I don’t really care. I want a modern Warcraft 3 style game.
99% of your comments makes me cringe.
On the one hand, coming up with a new commander has to be much more complicated then coming up with a new hero - Not only do you have to make sure the new commander isn’t a clone of currently existing commanders, but you have to design each unit model, every ability, and anything new with the commander (Personally, I theorize that a few of the newer Commanders had parts of their kit taken from scrapped SC2 mini-campaigns). There is also the issue of names and faces - Keep in mind that they had to bring back 3 dead characters to make up the commander roster, and they even turned someone that everyone forgot about and didn’t really care about into a silly meme commander. They were obviously scrapping the bottom of the creative development barrel there.
With that said, we have only had 2 heroes released for the entirety of 2020 - Plenty of reworks for sure, but only two new heroes, and considering that we only have 2 and 1/2 months left of the year, we may not see another hero for 2020. At the very least though, they won’t run into issues of creative development like they obviously did with SC2 co-op commanders.
I doubt that’s true, given how Age of Empires is doing.
