Nexus originals is a good idea

I am thinking nexus originals like Orphea is a good idea.

What is the weakness of hots IF they dont add nexus originals?
They have to ONLY use characters from blizzard franchise. An unprecedented weakness among the more popular MOBA

With nexus originals we can always be surprised by their completely new kit. We can retrospectively add new lore to them or even have them appear in other blizzard franchise if and when appropriate.

Its not that I hate OG heroes but I love to dream

O my god its Imperius vs Malthael
The lich king vs Varian
Raynor a ordinairy space marine vs the litteral devil

I love to play heroes for playing heroes with intresting lore behind them. Besides their gameplay mechanics. Its just a cool thing, i feel like the kid in the toy event. Orphea had a comic and a few wikis
Qhira really lacked everything

Tldr add lore to new heroes

Blizz can add lore later on like how dota2 and lol heroes and champs have lore written for them. They just have make someone write the lore for them.
I love to dream too, and I dream of getting completely new heroes

Yeah its good they dont want to get hindered by lore. But why dont they do a brightwing or lunara? They were also nexus OG’s who are from the wow universe.

I googled brightwing in wow and thought maybe someday wow is worth playing. I will visit the little minky. So its even good marketing for both parties.

Nexus OC are good to add only if supported with a decent introduction, like Orphea was. Qhira, that was throw at us out of the blue, was pretty terribile and was heavily contested also for this reason: even if lore is not a central focus of the game, one of HotS strenght point is the chance to play iconic characters so you have to actually create hype around someone that is completly new by giving knowledge of it to the players.

Orphea was introduced almost one year before her release with comics and in-game events, while Qhira had just a spotlight (the worst of all, on top of that).
Considering the actual budget of HotS I doubt we’ll ever seen something like what was done for Orphea, but at last they could use Seasonl Events as way to tease/introduce new OCs (Qhira could have been used during the Caldeum Complex or MechaStorm II event, since she fit decently with technological advanced themes).

For me a dota/lol level introduction to the new characters is enough for me.
For Qhira I think its fine to retrospectively add lore to her

Hard disagree about it being a weakness. Between the 4 universes, the chances of finding someone appropriate for a kit are pretty high, especially if you include freshly made-up heroes like Lunara or BW.

Don’t have problems with original hero concepts but it feels entirely unnecessary. They have such a wide array of available characters from all franchises, which often don’t result in a carbon copy of their in-game representation, which means there’s always room to experiment with new ideas when it comes to abilities.

The problem is that their budget is already low, so why waste time brainstorming new things when you could already have fast, cheap and quality production by importing voice files, models and spell effects from other products. And we all know most of their work is compatible cross-platform over their games.

The game is a love letter to their franchises, so even if you don’t implement an existing character, at least try to fit it in one of the existing universes.

I have no issue with nexus OG heroes as long as they have a cool and interesting backstory and playstyle, just like every other hero in the game.

That’s why i didn’t enjoy Qhira when she first came out, they legit just gave us like 2 sentences of backstory and threw her in the game, she wasnt a bad hero and she had an intresting kit, but it feels like blizzard spent 10 minutes on the backstory and said here you go

That can get really annoying when you wait like 2 months for a new hero and they give you someone no one’s ever heard of.

As of now though i’m glad all the Nexus OG’s are in Hots

There is no equivalent to Zac or Azir from blizzard games
Also nexus oc can bring out completely new character designs.
@Grim
Disagree with needing to think of brainstorming new ideas taking too mcuh effort, I think the developers came up with Nexus OC because they LIKE to xome up with their own ne2 characters

Poor HotS they can only choose from their own (thousands of) characters (which btw gave the base for DOTA as well)

I just looked at this Azir person. He’s a commander character. Looks somewhat Mengsk-esque. Very Mengsk-esque if you change some of his kit to ranged. Alternatively, you could just throw that kit onto some Warcraft commander and it’d be fine.

Do you know what is the advantage of dota1 over hots (if hots cant make new characters?), dota 1 can take existng models from warcraft and make completely new characters with new lore.

How is that an advantage? For me, that’s a disadvantage.

Not really, Lycanthrope cant exist in warcraft, there is no demon that can turn into a wolf.
On the other hand they can turn paladin to omniknight even though they are quite similar because they can

Worgens are lycanthropes. Greymane is a werewolf.

Demonic Greymane skin.

And this kinda proves that most of the “uniqueness” you search with OCs are just mere cosmetics.

Blizz filled their games with all the tropes and cliches ppl (like themselves) liked and wanted, so basically everything they want to add can be created within their boundaries, with their already existing stuff.

Or is there a kit you feel thatneeds to exist in HotS but impossible without OCs?

To set the record straight, I mean Lycanthrope as in the character not druid like characters that can into a wolf, i dont think skins are “very canon.” point being there is not a demon that can turn into a wolf from warcraft

But the “i’m a demon who can turn into a wolf” is not what defines the kit it’s just the visuals.
I don’t know what kit you imagined for a Hero like that, but it can be given to someone who is not a demon nor turns into a wolf but into something else. And if ppl wanted a demon-wolf Hero, that can be done via skins.

So the point is: almost any kit can be created using already existing Blizz characters and most things ppl want for visuals can be done with skins.

We don’t need OCs (means “not necessary” and not that it’s a “useless/bad idea”).

As long as the hero is unique and fun, I don’t really care where it came from.

Warcraft exists for 25 years. There are 3 big strategy games, the best and biggest MMORPG game ever made with 8 huge expansions, more than 30 books, huge amount of comics, separate card game, a movie…
Both, Starcraft and Diablo exist for mor than 20 years, OW has its fifth birthday (it was revealed at Blizzcon 2014). Hundreds if not thousands characters were created for those franchises in years. You can’t add every single one to Hots even if you work at the game for more than one century!

You don’t have to add only the most important iconic characters. You can add minor characters. You can add other NPCs you can find in the game, you don’t even interact with them, they are just there (like Lunara, she is a dryad), playable classes (we have every Wow and diablo class in the game and multiple SC units) and others.

It is impossible to create OC hero, which kit wouldn’t fit to someone from other Blizzard games. Like Qhira and Harrison Jones. Harrison Jones is absolutely a minor character, he is far from being somehow important for the main lore, but everyone know what Harrison Jones means.

Additionally, when you add super iconic character to Hots, he doesn’t have to have exactly the same kit as in the original game. It can be changed to work better in MOBA game or it can be just inspired (Ragnaros).

Do you think, when LoL od Dota 2 devs want to add a new character they are locked into dark room and their boss let them out only after they design brand new kit which never existed before?? Of course not!

When you are game developer you always try to find inspirations everywhere and you really like to “borrow” ideas from other, even competing games. Plenty of LoL champs are inspired by Warcraft or Starcraft characters. Hots heroes are inspired by LoL champs and even newer LoL champs are inspired by some ideas from Hots (Yummi, the magical cat is more than inspired by Abathur). There are characters in LoL, Hots and Dota2 which are pretty much identical. They are named differently and have slightly different animations and colors, but the basic idea behind their kits is the same.

Do you think they have time, money and free people to create some lore for Qhira? Even if they do something like that I highly doubt it would be something else than short comix. Let’s be honest, it doesn’t sound very interesting.

Do you know what easter egg means? Blizzards actually adds characters from one game to another as easter eggs. For example, there is a blonde blood elf in stealth named Nova Terra somewhere in Outland.

But is is extremely silly to think Qhira could be new OW character or Wow boss.
