Next Anomaly: Performance Based Matchmaking

Yeah i know, pipe dream, but would be cool if…

Highlight matches tonight:

  1. 3 bots in one game. All of them my team.
  2. Blaze tank who talked trash to me in particular dying 8 times. Quira friend died 7 times. Final game stats were me as Junk with top damage, top soak, top siege, zero deaths.
  3. Same troll tank next game, because sure why not. But also, troll first pick murky. Enemy team answers butcher. Game ends with him at 510 stacks.

Great games blizz. Quality super good matchmaking.

Please end the buddy system and stop forcing me to play with new accounts/trolls/turbo feeders. I dont want to teach them how to play the game. I cannot teach them how to play, and Im not grandmaster enough nor play the right heroes to carry multiple trolls per game.

I just want reasonable, balanced games. Why is that so much to ask?

Stats after the game should be taken into consideration towards points and mmr.
On top of +-200point one can earn/loose 10% (20 pts extra). Feeder in winning team would get 180pts, or good player in loosing team would only loose -180pts. Also a good player in wining team could get up to 220points, etc.

That could be weighted stats compared against all players in the game on both teams.

Congratulations, every hero that “pads stats” easily.

Same for players who just farm in lane and don’t teamwork.

Oh, except that we make it so stat padding is even better. Great idea.

Try playing a single player game.

The trolls/leavers/et cetera… will hurt both your team and teams you play against equally over time.

The only way to get rid of them is:

  1. They lose all their games (rank tanks).
  2. They’re reported and we hope the reporting system actually works.
  3. be lucky.

Performance Based Matchmaking won’t work because it would require something crazy like a real player watching each game… and being reasonable about if someone overperformed/underperformed.

Next Anomaly - genji gets buffed back to 6 nerfs ago. Dev team says git gud. This is what we really need

No… Genji could use some buffs/undoing of nerfs.

But 6? Nope.

Give him half a point of range back, and buff any under-performing talents.

If he still needs more, raise numbers a bit.

But, that’s just my silly personal opinion.

No…just no. Those talents are either traps or just trash. They need to be changed completely not buffed.

TBH id would take the AA range back to where it was an my E damage back. They could keep the other 9 nerfs.

Usually when people are farming the contribute to XP but when there is a map where one them goes 4vs5 they will loose. And if farming leads to low dmg, or stats that don’t fit role that player might be punished anyway as thay will be underperforming is someway noticeably.

System is not to punish or reward every player as most might break even, this is only to help good players and punish intentionally bad ones.

High kill to death ratio could award extra points though, but not other stats.

Why? Because the enemy wont just allow you to “farm” 22 kills and 0 deaths. If you consistently do that and win games, you performed well, and made the enemy perform bad.

But again, this presents problems because only a part of the roster is meant to get kills. Maybe it could be extended to high takedown to death ratio.

But I do agree with you, it is very hard and difficult for an AI to gauge individual impact in a team game like this. So only counting wins/losses is the best the game can do at the moment.

Even in real sports, it is a panel of humans who decides MVP’s each game, not a computer. It’s very hard to say who truly was the key player.

People will learn and farm enemy teams extending matches. :frowning:

Otherwise/if there is a way to detect that, I think a “ideal” K/D target for players to beat (per class, if not per hero) would be good.

(Yes, people can sit in their fountain. But that is another problem, one larger than the benefit, imo).

True, but if a high kd person sits at fountain to preserve their high kd, they will likely lose the match. Offsetting any benefit of farming the high KD early game.

But working out those details would be up to Blizzard of course. They planned PBMMR for so many years it would be nice to see some iteration of it go live, some day (trying to forget that buggy abomination that existed for a few weeks…)

That would unfairly punish tanks, and encourage tank players to avoid initiating fights or trying to save team mates who are isolated. As it stands now, I know my death may a reasonable sacrifice if it results in multiple kills or some other strategic advantage. As the main tank, I technically should have more deaths than a hero such as Li-Ming.

A tank’s performance is really hard to judge by simple metrics, as your main job isn’t always based on numbers. Saving a team mate through a clutch CC would be hard to distinguish from CC used randomly. Taking a ton of damage could mean you were either protecting your healer, or giving the enemy Zul’jin unnecessary stacks.

As much as the idea of PPBMMR sounds appealing, it would be hard to put into practice for all heroes equally.

Yeah, then there is the issue of armored bruisers/tanks like DW or Garrosh. Their role specific stats appear low but they may have been soaking 3x more damage than the enemy Muradin.
And they body blocked / peeled for allies so many times they saved them from 10 deaths.

It’s hard to gauge true performance of tanks (damage soaked is too easily padded) or healers (healing numbers with low deaths is also too easy to pad). Maybe it’s an impossible task for HotS :frowning:

Assassin performance could be assessed fairly well by ratio of kills/takedowns to deaths, but it’s not that simple for the other roles.
Or heroes like Medivh whose main role is providing utility to allies with perfect portals/ Ley Line Seals / game changing Force of Wills at the right time.

[TotallyNotSarcasm] Obviously the tank needs to be dying instead of a teammate dying. So clearly the metic is if the tank has more deaths than all non-tanks on their team they are doing good. The more deaths the better! [/TotallyNotSarcasm]

P.S. it was sarcasm.

As long as I take the enemy tank down with me, I am OK with that.

[Sarcasm? Not sarcasm? You decide!]

Are you the garrosh from my last game? If so I’d happily trade you for their diablo any day of the week .

[sarcasm? Not sarcasm? You decide!]

So, 2 things about “Performance Based Matchmaking”:

  1. They (Blizzard) failed spectacularly to implement PBMM when they had a full dev team working on the game, so what makes you think they would have a chance in hell of doing right with a skeleton crew?

  2. There simply isn’t enough people still playing the game to make ANY type of matchmaking work. The reason MM is so lopsided right now is that when you only have a handful (figuratively) of people playing at any one time, you end up having to match any players available together. That is why we currently get Master players matched with Bronze players… there just aren’t enough people playing to match them properly. So even if they DID implement PBMM, it would just lead to “Expanding Matchmaking” and then games that are just as crappy as they are now.

2 games… out of 100s. Also, don’t queue after a troll as you have very high chances of getting them in your team. I know because I fail to follow that advice a lot and lose unnecessary games.

That 's funny.

Never gonna happen.

Most of your points have almost nothing to do with matchmaking though.
