Hello there. Right after the last update my LVL 7 account which has been matched in QM with people above LVL 800 for the past few month started being matched with people completely new to the game.
I found nothing related to that change in the last patch notes. Does anyone know anything about this?
Not your fault, there probably just aren’t enough genuine new players left.
So there is no new player queue anymore as there was in 2015-2016 where you only played with low levels in Cursed Hollow for a long time until you “graduated” to real opponents.
I do notice this all the time in QM too. There is frequently one level 0-10 player on either side.

Deathwing brought some new players to the game, so there are more new players now than there were before the update.

Those are almost all returning players though. I go to their match history and they all played hundreds or dozens of games years ago, and only returned for dw
Very few if any actual legitimate newbs
Ive noticed that, when I play with a friend, that I find games quicker, but most people are level 100-1000,
When I played with a low level friend (I am level 65 I stopped at level 35 back in 2017…) That the QM takes longer, and I find more people down to my level.
If I recall right, blizzard has similar systems in other games…
Thank you DW for destroying that damn mentor system for a week.

Well, here’s the thing, i met smurfs in quick before, so i can say if a player is a smurf or a noob feeding constantly and not doing anything useful in the game. I dont see any adequate players in my games anymore after the update.
The only explanation i see is that new season reset the QM mmr
Matchmaking has been silly for far longer than DW has been around. Quite typical MM is (for example), your team having one proper dps, couple specialists and perhaps a tank/healer while the opposing team has 3 strong dps with a tank that your team cannot kill cause your team lacks the burst dps needed while the tank is being healed. Or example games without healers: Deha-Murky-Junk-Hammer-Qhira vs. Chen-Alarak-DW-Ming-Jaina
Sure it matters what you do and how you play yourself, but, it seems whatever you try to do on your own doesn’t really matter cause you can’t win the game by yourself.
Around 50%ish games are like this, you just wait 15-20min for a slow defeat. And this is before you even mention the player levels. Althou’, the levels won’t tell the whole story since there can be older players with new accounts, and they actually are just smurfing around.
Atleast LoL had a “give up voting” for quick defeat. (Maybe has even nowdays, haven’t played it in a long while)
I know that MM is a balance of wait time vs. MM quality. I’d rahter had longer wait times for better chance of more EVENLY matched games.
And yes, I mostly play QM cause Im not really interested of the unranked/ranked stuff, and I usually play alone if not with a friend of two.
And yes, the games you actually end up on the “better” side of MM (which does not happen as often) where you basically steamroll over the enemy team… Those games tend to be boring as well.

I really think something happened to QM MMR with the latest patch. You used to be able to grind past the people who had literal zero idea how to play the game in a few dozen matches, now I see them on the regular. I’m talking games where I have 3-4 times the XP soaked of my teammates and still top the damage charts.
It’s become a game of “man I hope I have someone on my team who knows how to play the map and their hero” along with “gee I hope that they actually picked an impactful hero in the first place”.

It must be true. I’ve met at least 3 people in those games who have the same problem
Over 20 games, I’ll have about 6 games where my teammates have no idea how to play the game; 6 where all they care about is fighting despite being 4 levels behind and having 3 takedowns vs their 32 (okay, that might be not knowing how to play the game, but I’m counting those different); 2 games where it’s close but somehow near the end of the game they start chasing alone for kills, get picked, then we get wiped; 4 games where the team says you’re not doing anything useful yet you destroyed 3 forts, 1 keep, and have 17k exp when everyone else on the team is below 4k exp and didn’t get any kills “because you weren’t with us” despite the fights being 4v3 in our favor; and 2 games with really good players who understand the role of their hero, basic teamwork, laning, camps, when to pick a fight and when to disengage. 2 games out of 20
I miss the old 10 minutes queue time, at least it gave very balanced matches. Now, whenever I see “Extending Search” or whatever it says, I know the game is going to be awful, and since it comes up after not even 30 seconds of searching… I much prefer longer wait times for a balanced match than wasting 20 minutes playing an awful match.
