Any advice? I’m 50+ levels as her and I still feel sketched out by my capabilities as her. I’ve read two guides, watched a pro player use her, occasionally watched my replays, and practiced a bit in training range.
Matchmaking is giving me plenty of wins on her, but I do not feel mechanically compotent with her. Every single ability in her kit is a game in and of itself, and playing four games ontop of Heroes is just a little insane.
I’m on the verge of retiring her, Lunara can scratch my warden itch and feels a thousand times easier to play, but I’m proud of the progress I’ve made on Maiev so far and don’t want to give up without a fight.
For what its worth, I play Quickplay exclusively. Is she only meant to be played in constructed teams? I will also note that I sometimes get that rush of shredding the enemy team.
Oof. Maiev in QM is a Press-B-Button simulator, no sustain and melee. Plus, you have to play her constantly to be on top of your game.
I suggest you to stick with a single build. E, W and Q build play so differently that you’d mess up your mechanics in the heat of the moment if you bounce around builds.
E build: Be sure to get a follow up since you’re the initiator.
Q build: Position yourself sideways from the enemy and their retreating path to get an easier arc angle.
W build: Proc W on minions with enemy heroes in range. E out.
Pro players are in a team that enable them. QM is a different beast.

He’s not always in a 5 stacks.
Totally agree, stick to a build, and start playing it so you can see the details of each situation, playing vs each hero and comp and what to expect from those players.
Something that helped me out to know what to do and not to do vs each player is this:
Each player has a skill level with their hero, some are very good players but really bad at that hero for example or vice versa most of the time. So for example a Good Zul’jin will bait people to get near him so he will use Tazdingo at the last second before getting killed, so landing a stun and a quick burst afterwards, its the way to go, but a very good ZJ will know this and use the Taz to avoid death before getting killed.
Sometimes it takes time to learn something very well, at least in my case.

He had a guide from 6 years ago and did montage clips, but I haven’t rewatched them to see how they hold up
For my own tips, I’ve generally only played maiev in aram where the constant skirmish makes it more likely for me to get some combos, and without sustain in some games, I simply try to trade-up by getting more kills than my own deaths.
Qm takes a lot of patience at select ambush spots or waiting between objectives to have the opportunity to shine, so it can be rough playing her without getting a solid feel for how much damage she can take compared to how much she can deal.
I don’t think I have a good grasp on maiev herself, so I usually only give introductory tips https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/heroes/t/i-need-maiev-advice/39579/13 but maybe something will catch your attention there.
I used to type quotes from Batman while playing her, but other characters might help with mindset and focus or silliness or whatever.
She’s so fun in ARAM, that’s an instant pick.
lvl 15v16. I don’t care. https://streamable.com/fom5ul
All of these quest completing noises, Q resets and HP bar going down are the freaking induced dopamine rush that keep me going.
He is one of the best Maievs I have ever seen. Would not hesitate to call him the best in the world with her. I once faced him while he was 5 stacking in QM and got a taste of his skills first hand. Was actually honored to face someone I was watching alot on YT back in the days.
i am in a similar boat to you, she is pretty cheeks in QM, i play QM to get comfortable with the button pressing and practice dialing in my Q aim,
but for real practice you want there to be a balanced team comp. primarily one with frontline. a tank to soak attention, an enemy frontline to farm q resets on.
one big thing about playing maiev that ive learned it approaching the enemy team from a perpendicular angle. this way your q is more likely to have viable reset targets.
if you are playing qm you will have to vastly adjust your playstyle. i will normally drop the ambitions of farming resets and instead play to setup my other 3-4 assassins haha.
anyway it took me a looooooooooooooooooooooooot of work to get her to 50% wr (3x the level of my next most played) but it was a good time. the sad part is how often you get flamed for picking her because everyone thinks youre out of your depth for even trying.
As others have mentioned, ARAM is a great place to hone your skills with Maiev. I assume you know this by now, she excels in close group combat.
She has multiple builds, so best to explore the top 2-3 in Heros Profile, I generally switch up my Maiev based off enemy comp.
Lastly, learning to juggle your D (Vault of the Wardens) can mean the difference of escaping or dying. Timing and learning to anticipate burst/cc from the enemy is key with her.
Best of luck getting her figured out, she is took me some time to finally wrap my head around.
actually i play her and i am 15 lv on the hero side, and has problems but fast tower debacle and lane clear also good, but in kinda team player and fulling w all the time. with lunara cassia and with no traitors in game she is faster in my tru opinion.
