My idea for Genji talent changes

Hi, this is my concept for some work on Genji’s talents to hopefully open up his build paths and make more things viable.

Abilities

Cyber Agility (D) - Cooldown reduced from 20 to 15 seconds

Talents

Level 1:

  • Agile Dismount - Cooldown reduction reduced from 14 to 10 seconds.
  • Pathfinder - Added functionality: Jumping over terrain reduces the cooldown of Cyber Agility by 9 seconds.

Level 4:

  • Shuriken Mastery - Moved to level 20
  • Sharpened Stars - Moved from level 20. Added functionality: Cyber Agility grants 2 charges of Shuriken.

Level 7:

  • Dodge - Now stores up to 2 charges.

Level 10:

  • Dragonblade - Cooldown reduced from 100 to 90 seconds

Level 13:

  • Shinigan - Moved to level 16
  • Flow Like Water - Added functionality: Increase the reset window for Swift Strike from 1.5 to 2 seconds.
  • New talent: Pounce - Cyber Agility now deals 80 damage and has 20% increased range. Does not stack with other range increases.
  • Way of the Shimada - Bonus Attack Range increased from 1 to 1.5.

Level 16:

  • Shinigan - Moved from level 13
  • Reflect - Bonus damage increased from 33% to 45% of damage prevented
  • Steady Blade - Removed

Level 20:

  • Sharpened Stars - Moved to level 4.
  • Shuriken Mastery - Moved from level 4. New functionality: Shuriken throws 2 additional stars.

Congratulations! You made the Q-build useless.

You know this talent is a quest and you need 75 hits? Sure you can complete it faster, you’re good hitting multiple targets, but I still bet you will almost never complete quest on 20, when a single fight can decide the outcome of the game.

This heroic is already fine and picked most of the time. Why buff it?

Weird topic and I doubt this would help Genji.

Level 1:

Yes, pathfinder does need to be improved. Currently if you use CA to engage you’d just pick agile dismount, and if you’re jumping over a wall to disengage you’re typically just going to mount up anyway, so the added bonus speed is almost useless.

Level 4:
I feel like you’re trying to give sharpened stars a chance, as well as increase his waveclear, but:

5 Q’s is 100 mana, and takes .5 seconds each use. At level 4 would be rougly 380 damage to potentially 6 minions over 3 seconds. Wave clear would still be terrible, and drain his mana on top of it. Eating tower shots and using dragon claw would be faster and more mana efficient.

You also move mastery away, which removes a lot of early damage from Shuriken. Lets say it take until level 6 to get 35 stacks for the added damage, Shuriken mastery is a 30% damage boost right then.

Level 7:
Sure why not.

10:
Dragonblade is… amazing during a team fight, especially with the right support. I wouldn’t mind this change, but it’s probably not necessary and would rather see something in his base kit buffed instead.

13:
Further killing Q by moving shingan. Flow like water isn’t bad as it is, so not sure why it needs a buff. Pounce would need significantly more damage to be viable, it’s longer range than calamity(8.5 vs 6, both talented) but calamity does nearly 4x the damage and is instant.

16:
Shingan is now competing with final cut, which assuming you hit does more damage and is better for wave clear than shurikens even with piercing.
Then that boost to deflect. That is an amazing boost.

20:
Shuriken mastery: Hitting all 5 would be ~25% stronger than current Q on a single target, quest and shingan included, so as long as spread didn’t increase this would be a substantial buff, but it comes too late. Zanshin will be more amazing than it was before, and if you took dragonblade, the dragon becomes me is a lot better than the proposed mastery.

Conclusion:
This is a pretty substantial nerf to Q throughout most of the game, making it much less appealing, meanwhile not really effecting E build at all, and only buffs for deflect. All I see this doing is lowering his talent diversity.

Having access to both Shingan and Way of the Shimada sounds scary, not gonna lie.
Though I don’t play much of Genji anymore, so I’ll let more experienced people discuss this.

Can you explain why do you think that? I mean for me this talents kinda contradict itself in how you want to play Genji with this talents. WotS encourage you to use your AA more, while Q-talents focus you to use Q and why does it sounds scary to you, if he had access to both?

Well because as Genji when you are not hard commiting, you’ll be poking with AA. Once you commit for a kill, you’ll want to Q -> AA -> Q -> AA (and repeat) for maximum damage. Having both allows Genji to have great harass potential as well as fantastic kill power in one package.

Since there’s no Q talent at level 13, and no AA talent at level 16, there’s no reason not to pair them together.

Except that both of the talents at 16 are arguably better. Shingan is harder to land than having someone not move out of your path in a second, especially in a team fight scenario. Final cut does more damage than shingan bonus damage. You can still hit them with shurikens, should you be close enough.

In situations where you have the ability to dive in and deflect a lot the buff to the deflect talent would definitely be the best pick here. For example on braxis, you could easily get take 1000+ damage by diving into zero swarm or boss late game. So long as they can’t interrupt thats deflects normal dmg +450 or more.

Since he needs a rework anyway, my only idea right now is to make a new level 20 talent, which makes him unstoppable for 1 second after getting a reset with E. There’s just too much CC in the game, and some are easier to land than others, resulting him being always a risky/bad pick in SL.

Good, balanced buffs. I especially like partially reverting Dodge buffs to let him have 2 charges (3 was a bit too much originally).

But shinigan can be triggered multiple times on the same target.

This is true, but I considered the charges a wash with the fact E can hit multiple targets and be reset.

And it had a 5 second cd. Two charges on a 8 sec cd is actually fine. Probably still not competitive with both shield talents, but much better.
