Mute Chat + mute ping, bad idea?

I’m on some losing streak and I try to stay chill, but I keep getting frustrating situations like two teamates who spam ping me because they wanted me to defend objective instead of getting lvl 10 (since ennemy have 10), or insults because I didn’t want to go in a 2v4. So I get tilted too because even if I explain them why I’m doing my things, they usually just insult me or don’t agree.

Is mute chat and mute ping alway a bad idea? I feel like communication just make things worse sometime lol

If you’re tilted or in bronze no

I wouldn’t keep it off permanently though it does hurt team. Wven to just say gl hf to keep morale up.

Ive won games bc i played bbysitter and got a tilted teammate to rejoin the game. Not to mention some shotcalling requires more than just pings.

Yeah, probably best to turn off chat and play heroes you don’t care about if you’re getting forced losses. Just grind them out until the matchmaker decides you’ve had enough and gives you teammates who know how to play.

Nah it makes the game slightly enjoyable. The fact most chatting is arguing and flaming and pings are spammed way too much says enough.

Communication is only good when you have good teammates. Playing with trolls and idiots, it’s better to shut it off. The last thing I want to see is everyone writes a soap opera in chat instead of playing the game.

So many people are afraid of a chat ban, there really is little chat compared to years ago. At least that is my experience with games in all modes. You do get an ironically funny person and sometimes some genuinely good chat. I first see how things go and just mute if people start abusing each other.

Most of the time, it is all about how you communicate, not what you are communicating. I never turn off chat, although I will mute individuals if they are being annoying. Same with pings. But I have never had an issue with encouraging people, giving them directions, or even giving them advice. If they ignore or reject it, oh well, I tried and it is on them at that point. There is no sense talking to a wall, but most people, in my experience, are willing to be reasonable if approached with respect.

Anytime I play in my premade, they tell me when chat is being toxic in SL and i can usually predict it just based on lobby chat. Well I turn on chat just to see one or two hate messages only to turn it back off and paste the chat into my report and move on. Its not worth having chat on most of the time, People argue way too much

Sorry to necro but how do you turn off chat mid game?

You can do it per person on the score screen (tab). You can also mute pings there.

If you want to mute all chat, just the usual ESC and disable team chat in options. You can do this in a game that’s already going.

I was hoping there was a short cut key (like pressing L disables screen follow etc)
