Mute chat completely?

Lot of people say to mute chat but how do you do it?
Can you mute chat completely or you have to mute every player in every game you play ?
Got tired of the chat after my last experience.

You can disable Allied Chat completely from the ā€˜Social’ tab in the options, but I’d recommend some self-restraint and refusing to engage in flame baits instead.

It can hurt your win ratio to not see any allied chat, when your team is making decisions like going to boss, skipping an objective etc., not every player you come across will be a flamer.

You don’t need to type anything (and in fact this will make you completely immune to false and malicious Abusive Chat reports; they don’t count against you if you haven’t typed), but IMO it never hurts to see the chat. If someone goes overboard or starts being abusive just block that individual rather than the entire chat.

Not completely, as they could use something you typed before in a completely different game.

escape, options, social, mute team chat. I pretty much never turn it on anymore cause too many hateful or raciest players.

Those reports will of course count, but fortunately as of 2018 false reports against people who never typed anything during the current match will go straight into the trash bin:

Abusive chat or spam reports are ignored if they are issued against a player who hasn’t participated in in-game chat or public chat channels.
Abusive chat and abusive voice reports issued by players on an enemy team are also ignored.

Took them long enough to make that change, but at least they did it.

It’s also incredible you were able to stack up silence reports for enemies for 3 years since the report system went online.

Psshhhh everyone knows this game has the best community ever and this never happens. At least that’s what all the white knights tell me.

Better late than never I guess.

I agree. I’m switching to ā€œnever speak, only pingsā€ playstyle myself. And it’s been hard, sometimes I fail just because I’m so used to chatting. I’ve decided it’s for the best though; pings are all the communication you need to give in most circumstances.

While turning off all chat might be tempting, I would miss hearing the GOOD people too much. They’re rare, but they’re around. So instead I just have my trigger finger on the abusive chat report button. No 3 strikes here. 1 violation as simple as ā€œ[player x] sucksā€ is reported and muted. Period. No mercy. This policy of mine has led to a better online experience, and may have even boosted my win rate a bit.
