Modes - unranked and ranked aram

Please coompletely axe QM. Just get rid of it. Force people to play unranked. I think this shouldve been done ages ago frankly. Qm players are the best of hots players imo. they speak their minds and at the same time i dont see 1000000 chatrooms. release them in to the wild.

Ranked aram please. i dont know why i personally hate aram. a lot of other people tell me that ranked aram is probably the best thing for hots. it probably would be a boon.

Hi.
Again, completive aram is hosted every off season in the raven court discord.

Wow remove the most liked gamemode in the game so a fraction of the playerbase who exclusively plays that mode and doesn’t quit immediately after its removal will drift to your gamemode and give you better teamates, that’s a great idea for the long term sustainability of an already declining game, though personally I wouldn’t mind an official ranked ARAM just cuz jumping through the hoops of getting into an unofficial one is tedious

Lol. The opposite. I’d axe Aram, but remove all gold rewards from QM. Rewards should be exclusive to ranked only. An incentive for people to play competitive hots.

I’ve thought about maybe getting into ranked. Then I remember, to be good at ranked is knowing all the Heroes, talents and maps and how they all work together—but more so, knowing the combinations that beat most. So you don’t have to learn all, you just need to learn the meta, basically.
Personally, I detest many of the meta heroes and don’t want to play them. Ranked is never going to be fun for me because my favorite heroes are not part of the meta—and it gets old playing with or against Hogger, or whoever the top offlaner happens to be, every match.

Ranked ARAM doesn’t even make sense. You get + any-amount-of-rank because your side was given the better healer and you picked it while the other side picked no healer—or any other combination of the random ways it turns out to be a total stomp. What’s the point in ranking randomness?

You honestly don’t have to. The meta is only useful as how you react/adapt in relation to it, not because you have to pick meta heroes.

For example, LiLi has almost never been in the meta, but if I see a bunch of front line AA heroes, I’m gonna pick her because I’m good with her. I remember when Samuro was super popular, it didn’t matter that (support) Tassadar was almost never picked, I could counter Samuro with oracle and finish my quest super fast on his images. If Joh was in the meta, I picked Morales (a non meta hero) and got EMP. Those poor shields evaporated so quickly. Sure, my team might have got mad at me because I banned Rehgar, but that’s because I knew I could play other healers and deprive people of the easier to play meta pick.

Even playing at masters, the games that went badly, were often the ones where people who chose meta heroes who weren’t good at them. Just play what is fun for you and that you’re good at. I’ve played with really great one trick Novas that still made it work because they knew how to use her within or adapted even in spite of the meta.

But yeah, the offlane position can be a lot more stale in how the encounters happen. There’s just less variability. My least favorite role lol.

Thank you for that. That gives me hope that it won’t be as bad as I imagine. Not sure if I’ll start playing it, but I can think it over with better information now.

If randomness is getting matched with bad players (not filling/ taking what’s needed by team) or getting bad luck on MM roulette (having worse options than other team), what’s the difference from current ranked? You can still lose the MM roulette by getting a troll/feeder, you can still get people that won’t pick a healer and will be first to feed and complain about no healer.

I supposed the whole excuse for why ranking in team games is relevant (outside playing in premade teams) is that you’re the common factor in all your matches. All the ups and downs of randomness are supposed to even out on the long run. What it (ranked aram) would rank, ultimately, is the ability to play most of the roster decently (which I think is as praiseworthy as being best at X hero as an OTP), having good micro & decision making. IMO worst case scenario, it can be argued that you’d need way more

With that being said, if we’re to have ranked aram, it’s time for ranked qm and ranked vs ai too. Ranked QM could be about who’s the better OTP, and ranked AI could be about fastest match finishes.
Or…we could just have access to our internal MMR for each mode, turning all modes into “ranked” (considering “ranked” is just some numbers on a screen going up and down).

I’m not totally against it. The point just needs to be clear.
Some of your ideas don’t sound too bad.

The only idea I’ve had is that it could be about beating the odds. You gain tons of rank if you can do it, and maybe not lose much if you were expected to lose.
