Microsoft bought Blizzard? Let MS make the game reborn

The game will be reborn!

Blizzard is used as a stamp that will be put on certain things.
Microsoft began with 1900 layoffs and a cancellation for a game in making. There is zero hope for HOTS, it already was a flop.

The main question is if Microsoft will touch Blizzards “keep it running” policy.

We don’t usually agree on much, but I have the same concerns about MS. I wouldn’t be too surprised if MS doesn’t continue the policy of supporting games that have long since been retired. Slapping the Blizzard logo on new projects as some kind of “stamp” of quality, as you suggested, might not have the same value it once held considering all the internal Blizzard drama and lack of quality/popular new releases.

OP, I too would like to believe Hots could be revived in some form, but it’s probably too late at this point. I do take some hope from the occasional balance/bug fix patches we’ve been receiving of late. At least Hots isn’t completely forgotten, even if the Patch loop bug on the client is moving ever closer to its 4th year anniversary.

Game would need a huge makeover that could take years to make.

game would become much better if a smaller company got it
microslave will muck it up, just like their OS’s

I think it would hinge on just how much manpower it would take to get HotS up and running again. There for a while when HotS was most active it had a team larger than what World of Warcraft had. It would be extremely difficult to persuade the higher ups that putting such a large team on a nearly decade year old game would be a good investment.

Now, if they can get it up and running with a much smaller team, then then the suits could potentially be convinced.

Then there is the advertisement aspect, which may potentially be in HotS favor. Being that the game had very little effort put into advertising means that there would be a large amount of Blizzard/Microsoft gamers that do not know it exists. Gamers that, if they see the new ads for HotS, might become interested despite the game being as old as it is. So long as it has enough activity to keep new players hooked.

Also being that the game is already established they wouldn’t have to start from scratch. Just finish what was being worked on before steadily adding more to the game.

Hots before 2018 had 100+ devs working on it. You can just go check the credit roll for each year that was added in the game and you would see the people working for this game became less and less. 2020 was the last credit roll they did and it only had about half the names then they did back in 2015.

Any serious revive of this game would take years to do and would need a team that have a clear plan of how this game should be. And then also the full support of the company. Not like what they do now where they keep making games they then pull the plug on cause they need those people to make other games that goes through the same life cycle as all the other game went through.

Make new games
put it on life support
Rinse/repeat is pretty much what they do now for all games that dont make them the desired money or is not a flag ship game.

Yes unfortunately that is the norm rather than the exception to the gaming industry these days. I still believe to this day HotS getting the plug pulled did more good than harm in the long run as Blizzard had ran the other games into the ground that they paid attention to which resulted in the quality of those games taking a nose dive.

Until the day comes that big companies return to viewing the development of games as works of passion and not profit margins it is best that games such as HotS remain off their radar. We may not like a revial of HotS in today’s environment.

What bother me the most is that i checked how their Warcraft Rumble is doing on their official YouTube channel and i saw that this game doesn’t have at all the views that HotS had in the past.
WC Rumble is clearly a waste in my eyes and Blizzard keeps developing it for unknown reason (i’m curious to know if it catch money, but i doubt).

I tend to agree, but the huge Dev team for Hots was not sustainable. Instead of pulling all (well almost) support from Hots, Blizz could have made cutbacks, and kept the support more modest. The HGC seemed to be a huge money sink that probably needed to be cut loose, but doing so overnight, without informing the players in advance, wasn’t the way to go about it.

I know, I know. Big business only wants products that deliver massive returns. The thing is, Hots is still here, with so many years of development behind it. So if Blizzard intends to keep it up and running, it doesn’t make sense to me not to fix the monetization system so not everything is free in loot boxes. If there is sufficient revenue, a new hero release with an event once a year and a few balance patches would probably be enough to retain a healthy player base and make a little bit of bank.

But eh, again, I don’t have access to Blizzards financials for Hots, and I understand making a modest profit, isn’t usually an appealing enough proposition for a company the size of /MS/Activision/Blizzard.

The problem is so many of the bigger companies have fallen into the “Go big or go home.” mindset that if a video game, movie, show, or anything reall is not bringing in money like a winning lottery ticket pre-tax cut they get upset. Although part of this is due to them spending and wasting so much money on products that they need to make a ridiculous return just to break even.

In addition the obsession of road maps in games that are underdeveloped to then be released with a plethora of bugs, not enough content, and other issues forcing the developers to play catch up post release in addition to try and release what should be in base game but it is called “content”.

Then for games that do draw in a crowd such as Helldivers 2, and–debatably–Halo Infinite either the developers cut themselves off at the knees or the publisher does.

Though in hindsight, I am just rewording what was already said and what we already know, but sometimes it is fun beating on the expired horsey.

I do agree having a larger team on HotS would be nice; around the 25 mark max I think would do wonders.
