Mephisto Q build bad

Mephisto’s Q skill shot is slow, predictable and is always dodged which is why I think his lightning nova build deals much more reliable damage.
On some maps with control points like Volskaya I think you have the easiest time hitting things with your Q but otherwise I would just never go Q build.
I thought maybe we could make it a little less predictable if the user could choose the direction in which the skull will fly into. What I mean is that, currently the skull is spawned and faces a direction and clearly telegraphs where it plans to go. But how about instead the user can click and drag kind of like Alarak’s Telekinesis to make the skull face one way but then fly another way to anticipate how people will dodge.
Maybe that would make it a little more useful.

Also, Lightning Reaction. Does anyone actually use that? I have negligible results with it myself.

If you’re a God on Mephisto, Q build is fine.
Lightning Reaction is insane if used properly. I need lot more effort to get value VS the W build. But, when it triggers, it deletes squishies quite fast.

Then you play the build wrong. you have to cast q then w after to get the extra dmg. if done right you will see people getting melted

Q always lands if people try to chase Mephisto. They either need to dodge it, which will cause them to lose Mephisto, or they will take the hit and lose Mephisto due to slow, and Mephisto will very soon cast it again, and again. This can be used to gain distance to immediately come back. Obviously high end dive can deal with this, but good luck without a dive comp.

Q build is to get Ws and Es fater, not to spam Qs and the only real issue is the level 4 Q talent, other than that the build is fine.

Q build is fine, W build is actually overtuned since they buffed W and also some other talents, like the level 4. It is just way better to go W so you get much more cdr, and at level 20 it scales so hard with mimic that you just 1 v 5.

W build deals obscene damage when you get the bonus talents. It’s not that Q is necessarily bad, they have just given too much attention to Lightning Nova.

hmmm shooting it in retreat… I’m hesitant to use it that way usually since i have to stop for a frame to cast it which can screw me over sometimes ;D
There’s tons of instances where hitting Q is fine like team fights, chasing someone down with a shade, or just checking a bush. But in 1v1 fights they basically never land no matter what which I guess isn’t really Mephisto’s forte anyway.

gishki

The Skull missle for cdr is very true. It’s great for that.

Q build is only good if you have a good comp with sufficent slows CC or presence to allow you to hit Q and in this case W build also would do wonders.

Even if he has good anticipation sense getting regulary hit by mephisto’s Q without setup should be grief level.

Lv1 quest needs mana refund.

nah, Mephisto has mana out the ears. I’m literally never worried about spamming abilities all game long.

You already get double mana/cd reduction with Spite talent.

Furious Spark gives huge mana. His mana never run out. This talent is crasy.
But Unyielding Power makes oom faster by CDR.
This is why everyone dont go Q build. W build is the best in many cases.

I feel Q build is fine except mana issue.

hmm the few times that I tried Q build I was still fine mana wise. But if you get 40 stacks of Unyielding Power and spam Skulls out the bee (which I never managed to do ;D) I can see mana becoming a concern.

On another note, does lvl 4 Spite actually stack with lvl 13 Hysteria?
Do regen globes decrease your ult cd then? Just wondering.
I think it should judging from the descriptions.

Yes.

Pfffff. PFffffFF!!!
Not a chance buddy.
Q build is amazing.
Sometimes later game I have like 3 Qs flying, 2 from different angles, while the enemy is rooted, and they all explode on my Lightning Nova (Dual Lightning Nova if it’s past 20)
Easy to dodge is not what I’d call that.
I usually call it, wiping the enemy team.

Oh… I wrote up my reply before reading it all.
I didn’t realize this was a troll post.
You got me.

I"m still going to say, I’m surprised Shard of Hate has high popularity.
Because I love it.
And often, what I think is amazing, everyone else thinks is garbage (and their opinion is usually unwarranted)

Heh, speak for yourself buddy.
W and E (and auto-attacks) are for me to get more Qs.
Who cares about running out of mana.
You don’t need mana when the entire enemy team is dead.

Like you have to stop, the enemy must stop (walk at an angle) to avoid it. If it hits them they lose their ability to walk to you without assistance since they are now slowed. It works on some melee heroes who think they can just walk up to you. It does not work on heroes like Illidan, Malthael or Zeratul who can just teleport on top of Mephisto repeatedly. It also does not work well against heroes like Jaina, Alexstraza or Li Li who can slow Mephisto back resulting in them both walking slowly and throwing abilities at each other.

As self indulging as this post is. It gives me hope that Q build can be good which is exciting to me ;D
I actually managed to get 40 stacks of Unyielding power yesterday for the first time. It was around the 20 min mark tho, we were behind on keeps and getting thrashed pretty hard. But it was pretty fun being able to spam Skull missiles quite frequently.

Shard of Hate is an interesting choice. I’ve been using Hysteria mostly since I’m an ult addict. I never tried Abhorred Skull which is not so much a Q build talent as it is a Lightning Nova/Consume Soul buff talent… i guess

One more question.
Do you go Q build on any map? I find Q build works best with Volskaya where you have a capture point objective that forces people to pile up which makes them easy to skull missile. Or at least a map with many tight corridors like DragonShire or Garden of Terror.
But on a map like Blackhearts bay where there is just endless room to dodge I don’t think Skull Missile will be hitting all that much unless you have a combo on your team. If you have enough cc I think u could still pull it off but it would still be pretty hard.

Hmm actually one more.
Can you lightning reaction while shading? I usually throw in my skull missile towards the end of my shade. But if you want a lightning reaction you’d want to Q first and then W I guess.
But most of the time you’d not be shading to get your lightning reactions I’m thinking.

Last match I played him, it was QM, completed Unyielding Power at 8:25.
Once completed, with Shard of Hate, any time two enemy heroes are grouped you can teleport on them and auto-attack to instantly reset Skull Missile. If you land any hits with those first two, you’re bound to have a third before Shade even runs out, and by that point Shade is basically off cooldown.

Durance already has a pretty short cooldown, and Shard helps with survival by allowing more Skull spam and near constant Shades (armor)

I do it on every map, though if I’m probably not picking Mephisto if the enemy team is full of small mobile heroes like Tracer.

Lightning Nova build just didn’t click so well with me.
I find it easier for the enemy to interrupt Lightning Nova sustain and damage with slows or roots.

Yeah.
With Mimic, I’ve had Skull Missile explode…oh a whole lot of times.

Oh right so you also use Durance over Consume Soul most of the time?
I’ve used Consume Souls mostly but whenever I see 2 or 3 bruiser/tanks on the enemy team, or Zarya/Medivh/Tyreal, or Murky or anything that can easily survive the ult then I go for Durance instead.
Which is frequent enough actually ;D

Tho I am starting to see having an ult only once ever 120 seconds is quite a disadvantage. Having Durance with the 50 sec cd gives you a lot more options.
It is the optimal ult kinda.

But if you miss, it’s pretty bad ;D

Ye I need to finish Unyielding Power alot faster xD
