Mephisto is kind of a joke

Firstly, he looks ridiculous. For anyone who’s complained about how Arthas looks dumb, they are at least grateful that he’s not as bad as Mephisto. That’s an aside, however.

In all my matches, nobody takes Mephisto seriously. He does such spotty and little damage, that really he’s only good for his ultimate. He can do a global damage and reveal on the enemy team. That’s it. 1-trick pony Mephisto. Oh sure, I’ve seen a good player get higher damage, but always when up against a noob team that stands in his lighting. All things being equal? He’s a joke.

Whoever thought up his abilities and whoever approved of them being implemented (and whoever designed him while we’re at it) should have a performance evaluation, get a reprimand put on their record, and possibly be demoted until they can prove their competence.

tl;dr: Mephisto sucks.

His other Heroic is finally good as well. I personally always top dmg with him and I see others do as well.
It’s a you problem.

P.S.: Ridiculous or not, if you’d see him irl you’d shot your pants.

I think it’s that ya’ll aren’t using W correctly. It’s a RING not a CIRCLE of electro-dps.

So, hit it with the RING.

Topping damage is irrelevant if it can be healed easily. Lucio literally negates everything Mephisto does. Also, I am talking about “all things being equal”, so in an environment with equal teams, Mephisto is a joke. Maybe you’re great at dunking on noobs.

Yeah, I’m consistently “dunking noobs” after 5000+ QM games at (hotslogs) master mmr.

And Mephisto does more dps than Lúcio hps.
But even if he counters him, why is it a problem? Lúcio is a sustained healer, he should have the best chances against sustained dmg dealers like Mephisto.
Did you know that Medivh can completely shut down burst? :open_mouth:
Yea, counters happen, this game is meant to be a super complex rock-paper-scissors.
But Mephisto’s dmg potential is still really high after the nerfs and with DoH you have an easier time to hit with all your W ticks. (And its upgrade at lvl 20 is grossly powerful.)

Lol, okay bud.

But even if he counters him, why is it a problem?

Because of opportunity cost. Why pick a crap hero like Mephisto if you can pick someone a lot better?

Did you know that Medivh can completely shut down burst?

So? There are still better sustained damage heroes than crap Mephisto.

Doubtful about his damage. But if you have to land an ultimate to root someone to do the full damage potential, then the hero is poorly designed. Sorry.

I just suggested a small tip which might help you to be better with him. Because Meph’s dmg is only bad if you can’t lend your abilities. And no, you don’t need to play against noobs to be able to lend your abilities.
Ppl can’t dodge everything and you can shepherd them with certain positioning and teamwork so they don’t really have a choice.
You can also use your abilities as a follow up to your allies CCs (something which is pretty common in every team).

But sure, since Mephisto isn’t easy to play, you might want to use someone else as your sustained dmg source.

Yeah, this exactly the problem. This little ring has to land perfectly, and basically tickles the opponents when it does land. It not only looks stupid, it is stupid.

He’s boring. Looks boring, damages boring, is boring. Games should be fun.

He’s not an easy-to-master hero, that’s all.

Nor is he worthy of mastering, considering his ridiculous skillset.

I honestly don’t know what the devs were thinking with him.

First of all, he looks weird/too cartoony compared to his original D2 incarnation. And secondly, his playstyle is just too damned awkward.

Granted I’m not amazing at this game and I really just mess around in co-op for funsies (last MOBA I actually played well and loved was Paragon, RIP…) but I mean he just feels bad on every level possible. Some of his talents don’t quite mesh either I find, like the spell damage one for using his teleport… which IIRC just got nerfed to boot.

If it were up to me I’d completely rework him to be more in line with how he was in D2. I mean where is the death ball?! You know, that ridiculously OP lightning orb he would periodically hurl at you that unless you had max or near-max lightning resistance would just gib you lol… instead he has this weird skull? And no real CC to speak of or minion interactions, which again just feels weird considering he’s THE LORD OF HATRED and the Diablo lore is full of incidents with him manipulating and corrupting people (most notably the Zakarum).

I’ll never like the direction they took skull missile.

That’s skull missile and for some reason they changed it from ice to lightning.

You have caught my interest OP.
Show us how you would have designed mephisto.
And no boring excuse as it is not you job or whatever since you asked for some people to be reevaluated because of it.

46.5% Win rate, after they gave him the 2nd set of nerfs.

Yay…

He didn’t need a nerf at all except his level 20 ils one btw

What is a fun way to deal damage?

This is from someone who’s not super big into Diablo so this is an outsiders look on it. At first while playing him I was pretty meh about it and none of his stats were really outstanding to me because I’m just learning him and figuring out stuff but around the second or third game with him I notice I did a lot of damage.
I wasn’t too sure how I did it cause people knew not to stand in the Nova 1v1 but it’s a lot easier to land your skills in the chaos of teamfights and skirmishes that breaks out around the map.
Then I realize he’s one of these heroes with unassuming damage, it looks like it’s not really doing anything at first but the next thing you know your HP is low enough for the enemy Kerry, Graymane or Varian to just pop you.

I like heroes with sneaky damage! Easier to fly under the radar of the enemy. If I were against a team with a Ming and a Mephi I’d natural want to go after the Ming because she brings the big scary orb that goes POW! BANG! and she flashbangs with her teleport and the sound of her resetting can cause a panic.

Then you have Mephi there quietly throwing skulls and maybe he will try to jump scare you with his teleport and there are some sparkles going off but he’s not committed to it and goes away. As the enemy you’re like well wtf was that? You might even roll your eyes, frustrated with the fact that you can’t pin him down to kill him if he’s positioned right.

I can understand why ppl would not like his style of damage, it’s not very bombastic it really doesn’t strike fear into the hearts of those that underestimate what he brings to teamfights.
He’s just another mage that slow boils the enemy team’s health down. His whole jumping in and bouncing out It reminds me of Zeratul’s Q build with wormhole.

The one thing thats keeping me from buying him is he can’t do camps to save his life…nevermind he looks like a bone fetus not being able to do camp is just gross.

Well, firstly, it’s not clear that he should have been an assassin. There were some pretty interesting ideas floating around about Mephisto being a healer, who uses damage or curses to convert to health. Now, maybe this is too close to Whitemane’s design, or maybe not, but if so tweak him as necessary.

Here’s an example: …heroesfire.com/hots/concept/mephisto-6222

Secondly, if they had to make him an assassin, then give him abilities that don’t pale in comparison to other assassins that don’t have to put themselves in super risky situations to achieve the same amount of damage. Give him a skill shot, but less lame than his skull. Give him an AoE that deters divers, possibly, or get unique and give him multiple ways to build him where he could be a tougher tankier close quarters assassin, or a ranged attacker. But at the very least, make him feel and play like a Prime Evil. Make him feel impactful and epic, instead of mediocre and inconsequential.
