main thing about malthael is he is FREAKING BORING BLIZZARD! old malthael was way way more fun.
wraith straight is straight up garbage, lvl 20 it only does 120 damage? 5 sec cd and allows you to go up to be used on a hero if you have his trait on them only.
malthael has 2 useless lvl 20 picks
-tormented souls lvl 20 is a joke
-final curtain is a joke and extremly boring lvl 20, at least make it heal malthael more or something if people stand in it or more damage besides a stupid reapply mathael dot which he has in everything basically.
its always better to just get on one can escape death or last rites heal and more cd reduction.
i find malthael to be one of the worst heroes in this game for how boring this hero is.
And it needs to make it stand out from Last Rites.
They tried to make it fill the same role as Last Rites by letting it synergize with his W build for %-health damage. Problem is, Last Rites fills the same role already at least as well. We already have 1 Last Rites, why would we need another ability that fills the same role but is more niche?
I think they should give it back armor. And before anyone starts reeing about how OP it was when it gave 20 armor, you need to remember that that was back when armor stacked, so that 20 armor combined with Ethereal Existence to grant up to 65 physical armor for 4 seconds.
At this point, since armor no longer stacks, giving him as much as 25 or 30 armor during TS would be perfectly reasonable.
That or making TS reduce the damage of enemies within its radius. That would also work.
Yeah, it has a >3% pickrate overall, and barely over half that in D+M.
This isn’t the finisher ult, so making its duration refresh on takedowns doesn’t line up.
I think it’d be much better if it had a quest component, permanently increasing TS’ duration by a set amount (~0.5 seconds) every time a Marked hero dies.
This is actually an okay talent even now.
I think your opinion of it is just colored by how strong it used to be. Back when Malthael’s trait build was his dominant build rather than a meme, this was the go-to talent at level 20. Now that trait build has been gutted, it’s still viable, just not as strong
I say it again: After they changed his AA to cleave and apply marks to anyone around him, Blizzard needed to change his kit. His Tormented Souls ult makes no sense anymore now. His whole kit makes no sense. Why even use the shroud when one AA can apply the mark to the whole minion way anyway?
The hero is garbage. One of the most boring heroes to play.
The recent changes they’ve made to TS, causing it to reset the cooldown of Wraith Strike upon cast and upon expiration, synergize with Mortality, which deals 8%-health damage. Since that basically means you can get off 3 casts of Wraith Strike (24%-health) in the time you normally would only be able to get 2 (16%-health), they’ve given it a secondary roll of providing extra burst, like Last Rites.
They did this because Tormented Souls is basically useless on its own right now. All it was good for before that change was spreading and maintaining Marks quickly and easily, but post-rework Malthael (who has a baseline AA cleave, Massacre at an earlier level, and a wider Death Shroud) already has all the tools he needs to do that. Tormented Souls was just another way to spread Marks for a character who can already do that easily, so it was basically never picked and its winrate was ~47%.
It’s better since they made that change, but even still it’s usually not worth picking over Last Rites if you want burst damage. Even if you go W build, Last Rites is probably still better – 16%-health damage in 5 seconds + and up to 33%-health execute that you can pull off as often as 15 seconds is just way better than 16%-health damage in 5 seconds + another 8%-health damage once every 80 seconds.
If an ult is only viable when synergizing with one other specific ult in the entire game, then that ult needs changes regardless of how strong that specific pairing is.
If they need to nerf that pairing somehow to compensate, then so be it. But I’m not a fan of things like Support Tassadar being left in the dumpster exclusively because he synergized too well with Tracer in HGC.
Soooo tired of everyone crying, oh this champion, that champion, everybody needs a rework!
NO. I HATE REWORKS. I LEFT LEAGUE CUZ OF REWORKS. >.< When I first play a game, and I find a mechanic I like, I want it to stay like that forever. Don’t like it? Don’t play as that champion, and Blizzard don’t mess with it!
His basic attacks getting cleave was a huge mistake.
Before that change, it took actually some skill and decision making in order to apply your mark onto enemies.
Now it is too damn easy and brain-dead of a task, while it also made some of his other features somewhat meh (Tormented Souls and Massacre come to mind).
I also can’t stand how fast he can go OoM (one of the worst ways to balance a hero)!
So let’s have Syl, Xul, Raynor, Azmo, Brightwing, Dva, and Stitches in the dump forever right? Plus the same case applies to reworked heroes. If the dev decides they should be changed or removed, then deal with it. There’s nothing you can realistically do. Are there going to be changed that doesn’t agree with you? Of course, but like other people have done, learn to live with it. If you don’t like the changed hero, you don’t have to play them. If you said you’ve spent money on that hero then tough luck, everything is already free and no one told you to spend money. I sympathize, I really do, but some reworks have made the hero roster healthier by modernizing their kit, adding PvP potential, and removing inter hero dependencies. I’m not completely disagreeing with you here, some reworks are bad, but learn to live with it I guess.
Take a shot Everytime Tooton plays the “me against the hive” card.
But sometimes reworks are essential, when a hero is totally underperforming, but otherwise I agree we don’t always rework, especially not for heroes, who are working in their (niche) way.
Drunken party.
Not at all, it was one of the best changes ever made, otherwise he couldn’t compete to other bruisers.
The problem is if you look hard enough I’m thinking at least 1/4 of the roster would need a rework. Oh morales was reworked to have energy (I didn’t play her before she had energy) I guess the rework sucked and we waste time and revert her to mana. When you revert her to mana you have to completely rebalance her kit and possibly talents
Oh genji, nova, butcher, illidan, medivh, abathur., tyrande, kt, Alexstraza (?) and so many more heroes need a rework because insert toxic playstyle, trash “outdated” kit, and other personal reasons here. Oh probius is too unpopular, guess we gotta generalize him because he’s wayyyy too niche. Valla too old fashioned? Rework. Zuljin kit doesn’t make sense from a gameplay perspective to be s-tier? Rework.
Most heroes have kits that match their lore or are at least passable to an outsider… most heroes are fine yet there will always be a “reason” to rework a hero. In the end most reworks are a waste of time
