Malthael, bruiser?

Bruisers have decent self sustain and are pretty universal solo-laners. Malthael fits that bill well. Xul on the other hand, looks a bit odd in there. But I guess putting Xul in melee assassin category would be even more wrong.
Much like Probius as ranged assassin.
Some heroes are just Specialists - heroes that don’t really fit conventional categorisation. I do think it would be best to add 1 more category for heroes that are a class of their own and don’t fit anywhere else - specialist (or maybe “Outcast”) - just make sure ppl don’t incorrectly think it’s a category for “pushers”.

They put too many heroes under Specialist. Most of them were not special at all (e.g., Nazeebo - a normal ranged assassin).

Well, that’s what the specialist role was initially, however that classification created problems as for a role that isn’t meant to have a role assigned to them, people assigned them as the “pushers”. If they end up taking Azmo, Xul and Probe and put them in an “Outcast” role, that’ll just end up being called the pusher role and the whole dilemma will resurface.

P.S. I accidentally hit the delete button :expressionless:

Well anyway, who really cares about how heroes are officially classified. That’s only relevant to new players. Although I guess we don’t have that many of them so we should strive to make their life as easy as possible to keep them intoxicated.

Yea, it just makes the lives of new players easier, and makes players like me have a more focused role to main. I love playing Bruisers, however because Malthael is my most played, I come across as an Assassin main, not a Bruiser main.

Indeed. Mathael should have be melee assassin.

Having Mathael as Bruiser will certainly make his life harder in QM because he is going to face a problem to tank (or buy time) for his 4 assassin team mates against enemy team that have real bruiser (such as Artanis, DvA, Dehaka, Leoric) who can off-tank (or buy time) for his 4 assassin teammates…

It is pretty much unfair composition unless Mathael somehow landed in the special and rare situation where the 4 enemy assassins somewhat got caught and marked by Mathael and are in his range of Soul Rip.

That was already a problem before and I would wager that him beeing matched against an off-tank is more in his favor than beeing matched against an assassin.

I normally play Malth like a specialist but then again the bruisers I play I also play like a specialist so I guess this does fit him even though i feel safer and tankier on someone like Thrall in team fights then I do on Malth.

Nah. Definitely not.

He may be on the other side of Bruiser middle, but he’s definitely much closer to Bruiser average, than Assassin.

I haven’t really looked at the new classification, but I bet Thrall is a melee assassin (what else could he be?), and I must say that Malthael isn’t more durable than Thrall :stuck_out_tongue: His self-sustain is okay-ish, but he needs more max HP.

Bruiser.
Lol.

Bruisers: Xul, Malthael, Dehaka, D.va, Leoric, Varian, Rexxar, Ragnaros, Thrall, Chen, Yrel, Imperius, Artanis.

Damn… it looks like they were just tossing a coin when deciding what role to give each melee hero.
Thrall has a lot of damage, and he deals it rather fast. He does deserve to be a melee assassin.
But my point stands that Malthael is too squishy for the bruiser category. He seems to be the squishiest from the list :stuck_out_tongue:

I would say that’d Xul or Misha.

I have Malthael at lvl 27 and Thrall at lvl 16, so I think I played them enough times to form an opinion on this topic: imo they both deserve to be Bruisers and I like the roles the Heroes got. All (maybe Tyrael as a main tank is still a bit off for me, but nothing else).

Honestly, bruisers are much more sustain oriented than straight bursting people down in a nano second.

But more so, malth is all about that Q spam and sustained combat playstyle. Makes sense from a bruiser standpoint, where as he seems out of place as a melee assassin as his only assassin esque features are hitting multiple people.

You do realize that if Malthael is the only frontline and he doesn’t have a real tank in QM, then the enemy doesn’t have one either. Bruisers are NOT tanks, how hard is this to understand? They literally split the roles for this reason!

Yea, if Malthael has one mark on every enemy in their team, he can tank combo after combo, provided his healer assists abit. This happened to me once when my tank was on his way to the fight, but I was already pulled in by a Stitches. The sheer amount of healing I put out to keep myself alive was absolutely wild, and we ended up winning the entire early game because of that one move. If Illidan was hooked, he could’ve survived if he was constantly attacking and dodged correctly, but this is why Malthael is a Bruiser and not characters like Illidan and Butcher. Malthael has the tankiness of a Sonya or Dehaka in sustained fights, and can be an absolute lane bully compared to most Melee Assassins.

Classifications like this are never going to be perfect, there’ll always be Heroes that balance on the edge on could go either way. Ragnaros and Malthael are corner cases, not quite as sturdy as ‘full’ bruisers, yet not quite as fragile as melee assassins either.

I think that Heroes are what they can be and it doesn’t matter if it says that Malthael is a giraffe that escaped from a zoo or that Misha is the Queen of England.

The game is not a text-based game and the text doesn’t change anything.

Sonya has very high dps with Berserker too. Is she an Assassin? No, most definitely not.

Thrall has a lot of peel, a lot of self healing [the trait heals often, lvl7 talent heals a lot, lvl13 D talent adds even more heals on demand] and it’s very difficult to remove him from fight due to that. He’s one of the most typical Bruisers you could get.

A chen is more a tank than Thrall is an assassin.

If illidan had more base HP, he could be called a bruiser too (but in his current state, he’s definitely more an assassin - hit him with 1-2 big spells and he has to retreat looking for his personal doctor). Well he also can’t really peel for others (that’s usually not how you would use Hunt, even if it wasn’t on a million years cooldown).

A bruiser is not a hero that can’t do damage. It’s a hero, that’s hard to get rid of and can stand in fights without help of their healer. Giving them bigger HP pools/armor and more peel pushes them to the tank category.

Kerrigan can be a bruiser in some games. She can even be a tank. But since in most games she’s extremely reliant on the healer’s help and the gameplay is generally more backline, she’s rightfully in assassin category.

Much like tanks, part of bruiser’s job is to effectively deny areas from opponents and create safe spaces for team’s healers and assassins. If you don’t do that on Thrall, then you’re missing a lot of his potential. Just for example, think of his ultimates. A good Sunder is not the one that just finishes weak opponents, a good Sunder creates safer space for your teammates to move in and puts opponents in a worse position (getting kills at the same time is of course a bonus) [both of these things are essentially in Tank’s job description]. Same true for EQ, but it’s a bit more straightforward and effect is passive.

I think that we should vote in order to resolve this. Or people should share their oppinion about this issue because it has been mentioned by some people already and things like this should be clarified in order for us to be able to stop talking about it.

I am a helpful player because I respond to other players in a positive way.

As long as I am a positive player, I am a nice player. As long as I am up to date with the machanics of the game and I keep practicing and keep my good winrate I am a good player, and that is my purpose.

I say :glhf: even if I play with AI teammates. It helps me stay in good mood. Especially in this game full of toxicity and heartless mean rude players that say things they don’t really mean.

I wish they were all dead so we could play in peace.
