Malfurion question

Why is malfurion considered so strong right now? I’m aware he’s pretty strong against tyrande, but what else makes him a strong pick?

Genuine question. I am struggling a little to make him work, so any tips would be appreciated

I know that at organised play, he can combo his roots with other CC to get a good lockdown, as well as zoning.
His Twilight Dream is also still decent.
I’ve also heard people say that he’s good at healing heroes like Illidan, or Genji, who dive too deep into the enemy team for a regular support’s comfort.

He’s good at enabling squishy heroes like tracer, genji, valla, because his Q basically acts like a permanent fountain and his Ws almost full heal low hp heroes.

For me, #1 thing for Malf thing is mana and his roots. High cd, mana cost is insane. Unless stars align, you basically never engage with roots, especially early game. Wait for more reliable tank CC.

He has decent long range healing, roots/area denial, combo potential with Silence ult and gives mana. What is there to not like?

Technically he’s not really strong but 380 healing over 5 second and every 10 mana 3 second moonfire that hits enemy heroes during the 5 seconds of healing gives ALL heroes with regrowth an additional 180 healing immediately for each hero hit hit 2 heroes and every friendly with regrowth has 360 of immediate healing

Add Wild Growth you extend regrowth by 1 second per enemy hit. so regrowth last longer so healing from dmg is available more, Natures balance or Harmony at 13 and you can see

His D, gives mana, and increases cooldowns for the hero its given.

Pretty much read the tooltips and it becomes apparent how he can be good.

Yes i have read his kit. Please don’t patronize me.

He has strong sustained healing that can go through the roof if you build for it, some burst, reveal, area denial, root, mana regen, a silencing heroic…
He’s a very versatile support and I think that’s what makes him strong. He has his counters (heavy burst damage and targeted focus) but he’s capable of doing pretty much everything a support is supposed to do, and do it well.

Malfurion can be considered good because:

  • he can heal anyone with Q on them anywhere as long as he lands flares on people.
  • follow up root can be a death sentence in organized play.
  • he has - healing option on his follow up CC
  • he has multi and self cleanse option.
  • his trait is mana regen and cdr
Now this is in organized play and with players who can be reactive enough to use his kit to its fullest which is easier said than done.

You mean over 20 seconds.

What do the 3 top healers ana tyrande malfurion have in common? They all have really good cleanses, along with solid kits. It’s just too easy to abuse setups like hanzo dragonarrow or ana sleepdart for easy kills which is why I strongly believe every healer need some sort of improved cleanse.

“why is a hero whose heal is based around skillfully targeting and hitting enemies with a skillshot who also has a large AOE root and mana restoration+CDR so strong?”

His kit is one of the ones that scales with player skill, and so when you get up to the level where hero balance actually has a large impact to the outcome of games… He is very strong.

Personally I cannot play him at all.

He doesn’t click with me, I miss all his roots and I hate how sometimes I’ve only got a single innervate target on my team.

But his kit is clearly strong if you stop and take the time to think about it. You didn’t, so his kit was explained to you–twice now.

Actually none of them have cleanse.

They have slow+root (and silence removal on Tyrande and Malfurion).

But that isn’t what cleanse does.

And yes–I’m being nitpicky, but if you want to look at hero balance, you need to be clear. If Ana, Malfurion and Tyrande had Cleanses on the talents that are their CC-removal… They would be incredibly overpowered, instead of just powerful.

yes its the roots. always has been. his healing mechanic is very annoying now imo but if you are good with malf then you can handle it well enough.

ya for divers he is one of the healers that can be ok. the other being whitemane. they both can throw heals on someone and just keep a dive going for a short time.

personally i like whitemane.
especially the witch skin

Actually tyrande cleanses stun, slows, silences and malfurion roots, slows, stuns which is more than enough. If you’re gonna be nitpicky atleast know your info

Yesterday (or 2 days ago) I had this match with a Malfurion on my team. But he dced as soon as the game began, so we were playing with an AI. And I must say that the AI was playing him really really well. Better than some players actually

I also like Whitemane better, as she also has some on-demand burst healing, as well as out-of-TF healing. But Malfurion’s Regrowth lasts 20 sec instead of 8, so it’s easier to keep those divers alive, without having to re-apply Q to them so frequently.

But yeah… he’s a pain to play right now.

Any hero’s kit can look strong on paper. I understand what his kit does. I am asking what makes him a good choice over other healers. Keep your condescending attitude to yourself please.

Fair enough!

Free mana.
Baseline CDR.
Strong heal if he lands all his Moonfiress.

Despite the fact I was condescending, I did explain this. I dunno what else you want.

His kit is not just theoretically strong, but scales with player level—so when you get to the point where hero balance/power actually matters a good chunk of time, Malfurion players will tend to be able to utilize his kit close to ideally.

Which beats most healers.

Should I repeat it a third time?

Yes I should have worked that in, the 5 seconds I meant was the cooldown. Thanks for the correction. :grinning:

You say “dont patronize me” then ask questions like this that just sets up replies like:

If only there were some experimental mode of the game where one could lets say Try Out talents, that would be SOOOO good for answering questions like this… FFS really ?? go in try mode and try it out. Go into VS AI and play with some people vs BOTS and see how you like it.
