Here’s a fun little challenge for everyone: Make a team for HotS based around a specific theme. I will start with an example.
Servants of the Legion I made a decent screenshot of my characters chosen that I would put here but I can’t post pictures or links… so…
Tank: I went with Arthas. The strongest member of the Legion on Azeroth. And a few of the other Legion characters or skinned characters reference him in some way or the other.
Ranged DPS: I chose Dreadlord Jaina and Gul’dan. Dreadlord Jaina references the ‘Lich Lord’ and makes for a great cc and burst character. Gul’dan was a powerful servants of the Legion who can solo lane and sustain himself, coming with Horrify makes him a great addition as well.
Melee DPS: Succubus Kerrigan. A very dangerous burst melee character with some good CC and has some decent dive potential when Arthus and Jaina can hold her targets still for her.
Healer: Betrayer Malfurion. Aside from the fact that he’s a member of the Legion, he comes with great heals, good cc, and can really help out the team with his skill set.
And there you have it. Simple, fun, and gives you a chance to get some creativity going.
I considered Mal’ganis, but I really want to put a lot more than just demons. So I went with Arthus, who has more lore and more power. I wanted a strong lore theme more so than purely in game power.
I call this comp “Unending Hatred/Betrayer’s Thirst/etcetc”
Illidan. Alright? He’s on the team
Tassadar. Mmmk
Ana banana
Kael Mc’Thas or Yunkrat
E.T.C.
The strategy:
Ana nanoboost Tassadar. 2.6s shield CD. Illidan. And then when the enemy team clusters, KT or Yunkrat punish the clump with DEQW/Endless Nades and ETC of course also naturally threatens clumping. And then there is Force Wall for all things non-clump.
Oh, thematic? Uhhhh… the theme here is nanoboost Tass on an Illidan. That counts, right
Tank: High King Varian Wrynn Bruiser/Solo Lane: Hierarch Artanis Healer: High Priestess of Elune Tyrande Flex DPS: Highlord Alarak Ranged DPS:(grand voice) Archlich of Naxxramas, Lich Lord of the Plaguelands, Commander of the Dread Necropolis, Master and Founder of the Cult of the Damned!" (quietly) “Formerly of the Council of Six.” (grand voice) "Summoner of Archimonde the Defiler, the betrayer of humanity, Hearthstone enthusiast, and majordomo to the Lich King himself - Kel’thu-FREAKIN’-zad.
The Legion made it so that the Lich King would come into being. They wanted a force already on Azeroth that they could use to easily take over the world. Just didn’t work out the way they thought it would.
Remember that it was Mal’ganiis who lead Arthas to Frostmourne. The Lich King is just Nerzhul’s soul (a Legion servant) attached to the helmet. And the Lich King and Death Knights were Legion creations through Nerzhul.
People in General Chat are too stuck up, I’d have thought putting together a 5man themed team for the lulz would be funny but daaaaaang, people are way more uptight than they seem like in chat, haha.
Should be reasonably playable, since you can super displace enemies by hooking them, then dragging them, then using Emerald Wind, and then take the 4v4 with an Aba-boosted Orphea because he can talent to slow the enemy team a bit for her to activate Ancestral Strength.
I can imagine all of them being extremely on-board with consuming the enemy team apart from Orphea. Might make for an interesting conversation.
You’re vastly oversimplifying. Yes, the Scourge was created by the Legion to prepare Azeroth for their second invasion. However, they betrayed the Legion. Defeating the Legion and conquering Azeroth for themselves was Ner’zhul’s idea. Keep in mind that Ner’zhul was very much an unwitting servant; he was transformed into the Lich King as punishment by Kil’jaeden - for betraying them on Draenor!
Kiljaden basically ended Ner’zhul and it was from there the “Lich King” was created. Arthas was enticed/coerced to Northrend and ultimately was able to seek out Frostmourne, which Ner’zhul was able to use to eventually bring Arthas to Ice crown, and ultimately becoming the next Lich King. Arthas never really served the legion… it’s been a long time since I actually played through the campaign but at most Kel’Thuzad was stringing the Legion along while serving his true master and being instrumental in assisting Arthas becoming the Lich King.
When Mal’Ganis joined the Nexus I thought of a Culling of Stratholme team, with Arthas and Mal’Ganis as warriors, Jaina and Chromie as DPS and Uther as healer.
I never wondered how such a team could fare in normal conditions but it doesn’t seem so bad, even if both DPS are squishy mages and Uther is far from the best healer. There is a huge amount of crowd control in it, allowing for effective peel in teamfights. However I can already see counters to it.
