Loss streaks and stupid algorithm

So, I’v just recently started playing hots over at Americas region. Before that I had 400 or something account on EU, but EU players are extremely toxic so once I returned to HOTS after 2 years long break I decided to start anew in a different region and have fun in the game. (Even bought a character pack with 30 heroes right away)

First 20 or so matches I had extremely satisfying 90%+ winrate, even got carried through couple of matches, felt nice.
Now I’m reaching 50 games played and I have 43% winrate. Why? Because I haven’t won a single match in last 15 games. I’m not even playing competitive because I am too low level to sign up for that.

So, tell me: is there literally anything I can do to make the algorithm stop screwing me over and placing me as a fresh level 20-30 (with 7-8 hours played in the game) against people with 2400+ levels and 15000+ games played? I was so pissed I checked some of the players I’m being paired AGAINST and several of them are literally in Master League.

This is beyond stupid. I’m average at best, landing at platinum 3 or something the last time I played competetive YEARS ago, why am I forced to play against Master League players as a new one who can’t even play competitively yet?

You are still in the process of being “placed”.

Also, There is a contradiction bouncing around the forums that you’re being paired with those way out of your league because of the population. Not enough people to play the game to pair you within a short amount of time. Yet, queue times are short.

In short my theory is that there is not enough players to supply you with a match that has players close to your rank. Players complained about long queue times, so this is what we have now. Player level means nothing.

So plowing through inferior players or getting carried to 90% is very satisfying but it is not when the system tries to send you back where you belong?
Did you really think it was normal having such wr?

Your loss streak will continue until you are placed where you should be and then you should come back close to 50% winrate.

As a point primarily for your own interest, psychology tells us that playing games is only perceived as fun when you perceive that you might possibly lose. Win too many times and it becomes boring and tedious. Lose too many and you get frustrated with the continued failure. Statistically, most people will accept between 30-70% win rates and continue to play.

I mention this because Blizzard needs you to want to continue to play. That’s how they keep a large enough player base for the skill-sorting system (MMR) to work and to keep the queue times low.

While people do end up occasionally with losing streaks like what you’re talking about (15+), those are things Blizzard has deliberately designed the system to avoid because it knows that sucks. It needs you to win or you’ll quit. You’ve had bad luck, but it will even out.

I never said that 90 winrate is normal, but losing because one of my teammates is Hanzo with 12+ deaths per a single 16 min match or Gazlowe who believes that he can’t capture camps at level 13. Is not interesting one bit.
Amount of fun I’m getting is zero because of how one-sided matches are, the only reason I didn’t delete the game yet is because I spent 30 euros on it yesterday because the matches prior me getting 15 lose streak were actually competitive and tense in a good way.

But yeah I understand what you mean, yet it is as boring and unsatisfying as it gets.

Look all around the forums. You will find these complaints everywhere.
From bronze to master
From QM to SL
From Europe to US
From new players to veterans with 10k games

It’s not a new concept and not limited to new players. When you sign up for a team game, that’s what you have to be prepared for.
Keep in mind that this Hanzo will lose matches over time if he plays like crap and will be kicked out of your league sooner or later. I know that will help you little in this specific match. But he has to be in some matches and has to lose somewhere.
Last but not least, Blizzard cannot know if somebody will have one bad game at one point due to drunkenness, RL problems or simply being distracted. Or maybe he let his little brother play, who knows.

You had 90% win rate because you played vs 1000-1200 MMR opponents who are roughly at the skill level of Adept AI bots.

It’s quite normal to drop down to 50% or less once you get to opponents who are your skill level or higher skill.

Did you forget your MMR rises up as your win rate rises?

so you just answered your own question for this. you’ve been getting carried that’s why you got higher winrate. Simple

No, he wasn’t carried. If you check hotslogs, you’ll see his perfomance is actually quite good. In the games he won he never got some superhuman player to carry at his side, yet he was matched against ones on multiple occasions. 50% algorithm is the worst thing a company can come up with, you are either forced to play full 5man premade or get your predetermined losses.

well about solo and getting clowns is nothing new to me. i rarely feel like i’m playing with a team that’s as good as me cause it’s a clownfiesta nowadays and there’s no such thing as “balance” take a look at this picture.

that’s the type of balance in ranked nowadays!

I waited 1467 seconds the other day for a match, according to the ranked timer. That’s just short of 25 minutes… The game lasted 18 lol. Yes this was NA server, 11:20am EST. Average wait time was, I believe, 550+ seconds according to the game.

That’s the only post here which has value. They should have added the PBMM as it was supposed to.

I was merely stating what is being said in the forums. I do no claim this to be accurate. There are outliers of course. Thus it being called a contradiction.

Also, you are bound to have longer queue times, playing during the mornings.
