Loss forgiveness with leavers?

Just out of curiosity, has the idea of loss forgiveness been revisited at all? (or maybe it’s already in place but I’m not seeing it in action…)

Losing 200+ points in ranked because there is an AI on a ranked storm league game seals the deal for the match and is pretty rough, I can definitely attribute about 20% of my losses or more this season to leavers, AI, rage quitters, and people giving up. Would love those ranked points back lol…

There are so many other things that I could vent about (such as literally seeing the breakdown of a garrosh in one of my ranked games yesterday, to the point of where he just gave up and walked into the enemy over and over…in high plat/diamond nonetheless) but I know that trying to create an algorithm to give loss forgiveness on something like that is incredibly difficult. Its probably incredibly difficult to track whether someone is “rage feeding” or just “bad”.

But at the very least, has it been set up in the near future that if player “X” has been an AI for “Y” percentage of the game, then provide MMR loss forgiveness equal or proportionately to the remaining team members and impose a penalty and immediate lock out for a period of time to the “leaver” so that once the match is over the same people can’t get matched up again.

I thought that something like this had been in the works for a while. Was there something I’m missing here that could be a massive deterrent to this proposal?

Q: When ranked players drop from a game, would you consider reducing loss penalties?

A: We call it “loss forgiveness” and it’s in our sights.

I think they either completely forgot about it or just don’t have resources to hire engineers/coders to create the system anymore. They’ve had soon 5 years to do it and it hasn’t happened.

Yes, we should lose less points if someone leaves, and deduct those forgiveness points from the leaver. But it doesn’t seem like it’s happening.

Would be delighted to see it some day though.

Thanks for the link and the reply Shapeshifter, really appreciate it. This at least gives me some sort of closure that it’s been acknowledged, they agree it should happen and unfortunately it’s just the effort.

Honestly, if it was between this and waiting another month or two for a new hero, I’d take the loss forgiveness any day.

I agree, I’d be delighted to see it come through too. seeing a -200 go to a -100 or -50 would be amazing. I think it would go a long way in helping the community too. People in ranked would be less salty knowing that the match points are being salvaged to some extent.

They’ve talked about it a lot. It keeps coming up in AMAs. But nothing ever happened.

In reality, if someone leaves the game, and has been gone for X number of minutes… say 5 or so… the game should ask the team with the leaver if they would like to quit with no penalty… then the other team would win their game.

This would not penalize the team with the leaver, nor penalize the team who they are playing against…

I definitely like this idea too, but they’ll have to make sure that all facets are taken into account, I know we’ve all had that situation where its level 16-20, we’re pushing keep and want to go core, and player X leaves, or is kicked, or whatever. the enemy team wins the teamfight because 5 vs. 4+AI is not considered even, and then the 40+ second rez timers means gg.

This has been a much needed feature since HoTS 2.0 was released, and probably before that as well.

It’s just not fair when someone throws on your team, or leaves halfway through, or doesn’t even start the match despite drafting a Hero (you know the ones that sit in the Hall of Storms for 3 minutes until they get disconnected).

It’s just ridiculous that they can’t come up
with a formula to help out players that lost because they played 4v5 for the entire match.

If you bring back the integrity of Ranked play, this game will grow. Everything flows from the quality of ranked play and promotes healthy competition amongst the rest of the player base.
