Loot boxes (I'm sick of it)

I already know I’m not alone in this sentiment, I’m sick of Blizzard releasing a bunch of skins and forcing me to gamble for them. I just bought 37 chests in HOTS, re rolled a bunch, and didn’t get a single skin I wanted, nor did I get enough shards from all the duplicate items to buy even 1 good skin.

Maybe some day governments will step in and regulate loot boxes, until something changes I’m uninstalling all Blizzard software. All I want is the ability to choose and buy what I like. I mean, can you imagine if all businesses worked like this? For example, if you went to the grocery store to buy milk and they forced you to instead buy an assortment of boxes with random groceries in them?

Loot boxes are a plague on the industry, I hope they get regulated out of existence.

I even say this as a hobbyist game developer, I don’t ever want to feel like I have to put them in games I create, nor do I want my favorite games laden with them.

The loot boxes in HOTS are a scam, I never get anything close to the actual value of them and I don’t like having to gamble for limited time content. It should just be placed in a bundle that I can buy like they were in 1.0.

It’s a disgusting practice, and hopefully this fad will eventually go away sooner rather than later, depending on governmental response. If the industry doesn’t regulate itself on this matter, then someone else will do it for them, and it will be a lot more restrictive.

Belgium is leading the way in a no BS fashion, no middle ground, simply banned, period. I’m inclined to agree with such a radical approach.

No developer/publisher should get a free pass on this, the “it’s just cosmetics so it’s ok” is not even a valid excuse. If I want to buy an outfit (cosmetic) for my kid’s Halloween night then I’m buying the outfit that I want, not a box that may or may not contain the outfit I want.

Stop blatantly fleecing your consumers and the money will come naturally, because we do want to buy the things, but we want to buy what we want, not a lottery ticket.

They should be an automatic 18+ rating. It’s disgusting to put gambling in games played by children.

I don’t see a good reason to buy loot chests. There are no incentives whatsoever.

I may agree with 18+ rating, but if you want it to change you’ve gotta stop buying them.

I did, I haven’t bought loot boxes in this game in well over a year now.

“you” as in people in general. So many people, like the op, claim to hate the system yet they buy into it.

Yes they are indeed a plague in the video games industry. But the HotS loot boxes are even worse, since you have to level up individual characters, as opposed to having one single level bound to your account.

Yes i know you DO have an overall level, but that only increases when you level up a character. If you want to earn loot the fasted way possible, it’s better to play FEWER hero’s, which for a moba is probably a bad thing.

It would be nice if this was the most liked and agreeable thead in this community. The one issue that we all should see as repulsive and corrupting, of not just this game, but all games. We may never go back to a time where all things can be unlocked with skillful accomplishments, but we most definitely don’t need to gamble for what we want in game. Just let us buy the extras we want instead of forcing us in to a predatory gambling relationship.

I’m confused, since you have to level up heroes to gain lootboxes, how is it not faster to level up every hero when it takes less XP the lower their level.

If you want to get shards, don’t re-roll hoping for specific skins. Keep everything that has 45 shards or more.

You need to have certain amount of shards or sometimes gems. Yep it´s weird you can´t buy stuff with gems / or money but you need only shards. It´s probably discourage many from spending money cause they can´t achieve easily what they want to buy.

Just keeping shards.

I’ve never felt forced to buy them.

Literally what the government is supposed to do.

Or is gambling, alcohol and drugs not regulated in your country?

Actually higher level characters take longer to gain levels so it’s faster to play more toons. The system is to get you to play multiple toons and to try some you wouldn’t normally try.

i never buy single thing still have allmost all skins

I’ll be honest: Pre 2.0 I spent at least $100 on this game every single month. After 2.0 I haven’t spent a total of $50 on the game. I’ve gotten most of what I want from loot boxes - and I hate it!

Keep the loot boxes, but give me the option to buy whatever I want for real money. That way those who enjoy the gamble can buy loot boxes while those of us who can afford it can buy the skins we want.

Which is why HotS has been considered a failure, everyone got everything they wanted for free.
