why isnt anyone else playing his AA build? I tried artanis just today for the lolz and went AA build. my GOD hes AMAZING. im getting > 100k damage constantly, 500 quest stacks, i went against lili and cassia and went for build and STILL did most damage from both sides. and his E saved me and my teammates several times from divers. like holy moly why isnt anyone talking more about him.
pair him up with aba or morales and i think you can win 1v5 depending on the comp. his lvl 20 W upgrade for longer charge made me dive backliners and delete them.
maybe my MMR is 0 or my enemies suck but i legit had soo much fun with him.
I am always happy to talk about my favorite hero, but could you do me a favor and edit the title? Maybe just “Let’s Talk About Artanis” or something, as the current version makes me a little uncomfortable. Edit: Thanks!
But anyway, his bruiser build is fun, but I use it most in ARAM or some QMs, as it requires him to be able to stay in fights indefinitely, and usually with the 4 man. If you are playing the solo lane, it is rare you will get a chance to just trade forever, other than against something like a Chen.
With the buffs to his Q build, that is the one I am playing most often in the solo lane. Other than that, I still have a single-target PvE build I use on BoE or Hanamura.
If you do want to play full bruiser Artanis, I recommend the following:
Level 1 - Protector of Aiur
Level 4 - Shield Surge or Shield Battery, depending on if you are facing burst or sustained damage.
Level 7 - Chrono Surge
Level 10 - Either is fine, again depending on what you are facing.
Level 13 - If you are facing mostly ability damage, take Phase Bulwark. Trust me, this talent is borderline OP. The whole point to the bruiser build is to be constantly fighting and punching people, and it is hard to do that if you die. This talent makes it so you don’t die. If you are facing nothing but AA damage, take Graviton Vortex. This talent has incredible synergy with Chrono Surge at 7. The CDR on E means you constantly have the attack speed buff, and your opponent is constantly slowed. More hits, more stacks, more damage. What is not to love?
Level 16 - Blades of a Templar
Level 20 - Usually the heroic upgrade. Zealot Charge is good, don’t get me wrong, but the heroic upgrades tend to have more impact.
i feel like alot of my matches have either tons of mobillity ( hence cancelling purifier beam ) and some just have mostly spell damage ( hence cancelling suppression pulse ) but i found that purifier beam just does not do much in general, whereas the other ult got me a keep destroyed and saved me and my teammates several times, even with spell damage enemies. but ill consider the other ult more
your lvl 13 talents suggestions are really good, i thought that 3 hits with the lvl 1 quest is just insane burst ( at some point my AA dealt 400 damage ) but i will try the talents next match .
the lvl 20 talents i mostly relate to my ult choice, as i said usually the enemy comp wont care for my ults, so i feel like having W range is really good for backliners who dont expect it. ( i feel like it works really well with the lvl 13 triple hits talent )
I am not really a fan of Triple Strike. Yes, it is his only option for burst damage, but you don’t really play Artanis for burst. In addition, if you can’t stack the level 1, you aren’t getting any sort of burst out of him, so Triple Strike is basically wasted. The other talents give him more opportunities to stack.
With your build, you are putting all of your eggs in the “they will just let me hit them” basket. In my matches, I don’t find this happening very often. When you math it out, if you can’t get over 300 stacks, you aren’t getting much value out of the PoA build, so your goal is to get to that as quickly as possible.
What I always hated about Artanis is how he’s one of the few heroes that can have both his ults provide no value. When P.Beam can be dodged by everyone and blinds are not useful.
I wish they made him a new ult to replace Peanut Beam.
If they have mages, I still take the spell armor. It just makes such a difference in his survivability, it is always worth it. And regarding Purifier Beam, it should be combo’d with other CC, or is more for preventing an enemy from free-casting for a while. While I don’t pick it nearly as often as Suppression Pulse, I don’t find it useless.
Bc he’s trash. This is coming from someone who plays him in sl (hoku will not draft him this is a callout). You can really abuse him to win some solo lane matchups, as race, or as a great pve hero who can get your team a nice little lead. Him sucking matters less when you have a 2 level advantage.
All of his level 1 Talents are fine. RP is the only one with a positive wr bc it helps him beat some bruisers in the solo lane. He does well against some aa heroes. You have to get AO on maps like hanamura or bofe unless you’re just trolling your team. On other maps its less valuable and taking aa quest is fine.
The spell shield is fine even though triple strike is the only one with a positive wr. Survivability is nice and all but i prefer being a threat. Especially with your 16 talents its a massive dmg boost. It will melt backliners.
Just as an fyi think like an enemy tank. When you want to unleash your combo on something what are you looking for?
1 someone out of position (art is a melee with little to no poke so he generally checks this box)
2 someone with no escapes (swapping can be shut down fairly easily).
3 someone with less survivability( art kinda has this, but other bruisers do it better).
Normally I wouldn’t draft him unless there are some highly contested camps on a map, because of how good reverse swap can be, but otherwise he doesn’t excel at anything. Generally I feel that the more a match will last, the better pick he becomes.
Oh, I definitely draft him in SL, but only for certain maps and comps. I don’t like drafting him into Malthael or Leo, as he simply cannot waveclear fast enough, and percent damage shreds him. I am fine with him against Hogger, Yrel, Chen, or those sorts of heroes. Sonya is tough, but doable.
When I do draft him, it is for his single-target damage, and the ability to solo anything on any map from a pretty early level. I do like to draft him into some weird comps, too. I am pretty sure you were healing the one match (Last season? I can’t remember.) on Garden of Terror into a Murky/Illidan comp. I was last pick, and I know how to lane against either or both of them, and Suppression Pulse means Illidan can’t stay on our backline without exploding.
I do prefer to play Blaze in the offlane, especially on maps where clear is vital (Tomb of the Spider Queen or Infernal Shrines), plus I freely admit Blaze brings far more utility to the team than Artanis does.
But in the end, I will still draft Artranis whenever I can, and whenever it makes sense. Because godswaps never get old.
hey im also rooting for artanis rights as well :P.
i think that if you draft him properly he can be really good. i was just wondering why people didnt call him out for being really good sometimes, and calling him trash like… 95% of the time.
Artanis is only “good” against bad players.
I’ve noticed on my smurf everyone picks him as a kind of late game carry and that’s fine assuming you can build his stacks. At those ranks it’s not too difficult to get 500+ stacks by level 20ish if you bait the enemy laner into just letting you hit them. But it really shows just how much of a noobtrap PoA really is, people get so addicted to those dings that they’ll completely pass on early game presence and fort killing power during objective pushes.
99% of the time damage is not the reason you want to play him. There are some talents that support PoA but honestly they feel really bad when you compare it to any other AA bruiser and even some tanks. Even Diablo AA build has much better and consistent results.
What Artanis does have over other Bruisers is massive displacement and insane EHP. You want to swap in for a free pick and then eat all the enemy team’s cooldowns. Living through this is optional.
Say what you want about suiciding but playing as a faux-tank initiater is how I keep managing to steal wins in diamond/qm.
As a source of damage Art is really, really easy to deal with and even with 300 stacks on PoA I’m more afraid of a Sonya leaping in on me.
I’ve been thinking more about it lately and i think his global ults are undervalued as a huge reason he can even compete with other bruisers.
It lets you contribute to teamfights no matter where you are and I can’t count how often it’s come in handy for saving people from getting ganked or helping out my team the very moment I rez.
And on BoE you can help your 4man out while you race immortal.
AO + Global presence makes you a real threat, but he’s not an actual splitpusher so people overlook that a lot.
