I’ve been playing Chromie since version 1, going through all of her builds, and the one person I can’t ever seem to get the best of is Kael’Thas. His pyro ult can hit you from across the bloody map, and it’s a one shot-one kill deal.
Aside from stasis, what are your thoughts of surviving against him?

Protection, Invulnerability, running to a healer and hoping they can use something to heal you quickly. Besides that, pray you can passive regen to a point that you’ll stay alive

pyro can never 1 shot you unless you’re low on health. and there’s something called “stay with your team” and do not overextend. plus don’t overstay your welcome when your healer is low on mana since you’ll most likely die and get 0 heals which is Kael’thas best moments well any hero’s best moments to kill someone with their healer having no mana
only way to get 1 shot is if Kael get’s nanoboosted then yeah you’re 100% dead! i did that with my friend on KT and me on Ana literally amazing

I’m tired, so I probably have his ult named wrong. The one NOT phoenix. If he tags you with that, you’re just dead.
yes the Pyroblast it is. the fire ball that follows you anywhere
I know Chromie has short legs but I’m quite sure she knows how to run for her life.

Wait! What about her ability to hearth back mid fight in under a sec- Oh wait that got removed

I know. That was Bye Bye. I used that to get out of a lot of jams. They have the ability to swap with one of her echoes, but it is super weak by comparison.
You can at least understand why it was removed. Seriously, that crap was so annoying

Oh, I’m not saying it wasn’t annoying.
Actually, Kael’thas needs to be relatively close to his target for 1.5 seconds while he channels. If you break away from him, it’ll cancel Pyroblast and place it on a 10 second fizzle cooldown. As Chromie, you should try and stay deep in the backline.
Alternatively, stasis is a great way to dodge it, since you’re trading a 60 second cooldown for a 100 second cooldown. Also, Chromie can put herself in a Time Trap in a pinch, so you don’t even need to waste Time Out.

My only complaint right now about her build is mana depletion. They wanted her to use dragon talons to fight, but it’s sooooooo weak. Sand blast too much, and you’re useless in a fight.
Can’t Chromie detonate her time trap on herself? If so, that should be a viable way to avoid PB if you’re for some reason by yourself.

I had not considered that. I forgot all about time trap. Thanks for the reminder!
With Chromie time stopping yourself or someone else with her watch could save u from pyro? Havent done it but it must work, time stop is like stasis, nothing can affect you.
totally agree on that. time trap can save you big time from anything
you can also save your teammates with time traps not just your self. if your teammate goes into 1 of your time trap you can simply trigger it “if they really needed it” and that way pyro or any other ability / hero ult etc going at them

I run around the map a lot. With dragon’s breath and sand blast, I can normally keep many of the enemy team at bay, so my teammates can tank and such.
Sounds like you dont understand the mechanics of the game, which is why the ult seems so much more powerful than it actually is.
Invulnerable, protected and status all completely negate pyroblast, as others have mentioned, and it only kills you if you are missing a certain amount of health, though it can be deceptive how much health missing will kill you. I have been playing Valla recently and I think she dies around half health, not sure exactly, but I usually play tanks and bruisers so it was a bit of an ‘ohh, oops’ moment for me.
So 2 things you need to do is
- work out how much health Pyro kills you at and do your best to stay above that.
- practice trapping yourself and your team mates to avoid the blast.
not a chromie person, but way I figure it, If Im not going to avoid the doomball, I just try to pounce and trade take-downs, if not beat him to the punch
