Just gotta vent about something I know they wont change

I understand it would be toxic if people could just leave draft whenever they dont feel like their comp is perfect, but its also pretty awful when Im forced to play a game I know we will lose because someone on my team decided to que themselves as Healer/Flex then refuse to play anything other than assassin.

The scene: I que flex for a few games, always end up healing. I feel like I cant impact my games in a meaningful way so I call early in the next draft Im playing assassin or bruiser. Team builds around the person who ques as healer, but doesnt communicate. They lock genji as last pick.

Ok, the enemy team has a valid comp. We do not. Out of my control I now know we have poor chances at winning. I dodge for the first time in ranked ever.

I get deranked and leaver status for deciding not to play a game I know is going to be unfun from start to finish.

Its stupid, and it just makes me turn the game off and play something else…after coming to the forums to pointlessly complain.

Welcome to HotS.

Blizzard doesn’t care.

Quit the game. It sucks anyway and will never get better.

You lost 500 points which you’ll get back over the next 10 ranked games, and can you honestly say that the leaver status isn’t warranted in this case?

I hear you. I’ve been playing ranked again recently, and I’ve lost count of how many first pick Nova’s or Butcher’s (or maybe worse) full pve laser Azmodan’s who had their preferred role as tank/flex/healer.

A couple of times I’ve left a draft due to frustration, after seeing a terrible comp forming, or worse, people are bickering in the draft. The thing is, it was my choice and the consequences aren’t that punishing as you lose fewer points for future losses and gain more points for wins.

The system isn’t great, but I can’t see how it could be made to be more fair, TBH.

Same conversation I’m having here.

Queue for ranked should include rolls so that Healer mains and Tank mains are in every game and have priority queue.

That way there is no awkwardness of pushing one player to play a roll they are uncomfortable with, also avoiding your situation.

can you honestly say that the leaver status isn’t warranted in this case?

Yeeaaahhh I understand why its there, and I agree with its purpose. If people could just do this all the time it would take multiple drafts to actually get a game and that sucks.

I think the part that chaffs is its a discouragement from playing the game via leaver penalty. If I habitually abused leaving draft to ruin games I can understand penalties. Up front it feels heavy handed, and was enough to make me turn off the game and do something else.

I dont think a single draft dodge every now and then is such a bad thing

usually, leaver status doesn’t come from just one occasional dodge, or at least a disconnect. There’s supposed to be a padding for game played to buffer leaver penalty if it isn’t consecutive issues, but I’m not very knowledgable on the give/take on that.

I’ve been in a similar boat for most of this game, and arguably WoW too where healers are essentially mandatory, and since I play to fill, I’m usually ā€˜stuck’ as the healer. Few players will main the role, and those that do, honestly, are better off playing with friends that are less likely to grief in draft with ally-banning, afk, or a number of other things that make it taxing to heal.

The worst aspect, imo, isn’t so much the punish/leaver, but that so few healers were made and too many assassins were instead. Granted, one is easier to design than the other, but having more options for damage heroes also pushes players to play those over other roles, and the saturation of damage picks pretty much ruins qm and ranked.

You’re right, it doesn’t. I have left draft twice since Hots launched, and I’ve never received a leaver penalty. For context, this was after they added the mild deterrent for draft dogging. As noted, I think the system they put in place to deal with this issue is really the best possible outcome for all concerned.

Before this rule, you could go through multiple queues and drafts before finally getting a match where nobody dogged. It didn’t matter as much back then, as it was the glory years of Hots and the queue times were far shorter as there were more active players. Without this rule in the current day, I think ranked would die off faster than it already is.

Problem is everyone wants to play dmg. Tank and healers mains are rare in this game. Draft chat is non-existing so people are just picking whatever think will work and then hope you dont pick a hero someone wants or els he will afk or tower feed.

My last ranked game I picked Stukov cause I know I can play well with him just to get flamed on from a healer main on why I picked him and then he left draft and I had to que up again and wait another 35 min for a new game.

You ban the wrong hero you get flamed. You pick the hero someone els want you get flamed.
And at the same time when you ask a simple question in draft chat about just anything no one answers cause your whole team are afk or are on YT watching clips and waiting for his turn to pick a hero. Game slowly becoming what I remembers from my time in WoW.

An anti-social game.

I’ve seen similar things happen. Stukov is still a popular ban (for good reason), it’s so strange that you would get a negative reaction for picking him, especially from a healer main.

I guess there is an idea people have, ā€œnobody can play the role/hero I play better than meā€, a philosophy at odds with a team based game that benefits from mutual cooperation.

It’s very strange how you seem to fixate on these troubling events and then make wild assertions/generalizations from them. HOTS can still be very much a cordial, social game. I find myself chatting with people a lot more often than I would think even as a primarily a solo queuer. I mean considering you purposely choose not to play in groups, it’s very puzzling.

Yes, a lot of people don’t chat, but that is precisely why a lot of the times, people don’t really freak out in them. And so while yes, some people will throw hissy fits and throw or dodge, it’s obviously not the norm, or else no games would ever happen. Making such wild claims that HOTS is an anti social game like WoW makes no sense because 1) there are guilds in WOW, and 2) dungeon finder is often meant to be for boring/grindable/non-thinking content.

Haha one of the benefits of playing underdog heroes is that you don’t have to fight over heroes. Not gonna lie, when Tyrande was buffed and considered ā€œOPā€, it was painful watching people pick and play her awfully.

Yes! Right now in my ELO it’s Brightwing. Suddenly everyone is a Brightwing main, but from how they play, I assume they have uninstalled their mini map and they always waste, or mistime their Z. At least I have no trouble picking up Tyrande, but as we have no updates, Stukov/Brightwing/Johanna bans will just stay a ā€œthingā€ forever.

Lately, in ranked I’m spamming Hogger and Xul. I still have much to learn about Hogger, but even conceding that fact, it’s rare for me to lose due to his kit making him a bit too strong.
