It's time to remove groups vs. solos

That’s what you might think your play style is. You even complained about it in the salt mines, and I’m like yup, checks out. You do some stupid thing late game by yourself, and then call it I can’t carry the whole game.

I’m saying you’re good, you have decent mechanical skills, you just aren’t really a great team player. Honestly, you’re kind of dreadful to play with, because you play with a solo mindset and the littlest bit of setback you just go afk.

Alright, setting aside your obvious prejudices here, you and I have never played a match together.

I really wish that were true. Taking a smoke break sound familiar? How else would I know if you were decent mechanically at Illidan and seeing how you blame people for not being able to carry the whole game for not grouping. It’s exactly what you do.

You play that solo mindset through early game because you can get away with it because of your skills and group fighting isn’t as common. Only problem is that you keep having that mindset even into late game and that’s when teams especially good groups will punish you for it. I mean I can see why you’d have a problem with teams that work together, you depend on playing against teams who don’t. Which is all the more hilarious because you still have a positive win rate in QM. The fact that you’re being challenged against better teams is hardly a tragedy.

Yes, I do apologize for that. I had put down my dog that week and I was emotionally compromised.

(I know that you admit above that you two played together, but…) Ppl can check your replays from Heroesprofile. You have some even if you didn’t upload a single match.

Obviously as you can tell from how I behave here, I am not exactly the happiest person on the planet. And yes, sometimes that old DotA 2 toxicity does rear its ugly head.

Sorry to read that, I hope things improve for you soon. All of us have been toxic, I might not type negative things about my teammates, but I sure think them.

I ran into packs of 5 again today, with no one in my team playing together. After that I looked at their profiles as usual and they had 68% winrate and only green games in the list.

It’s impossible to play like that ofc. I think that’s how the game lost a very large part of its players.

5 people ruin games for a huge player number, of course, now it sounds absurd, other games have solved this problem long time ago

I think you didn’t get the conclussion here after many posts.

Some people is willing to ignore solo experience in pro of premade game experience.

I don’t gonna do this stuff again, so gonna use same numbers than before. (169035 total matches)

People got like ≈3% matches under their vision of hots balanced game (5 stack vs 5 stack), proposed as “ideal” way to play the game. (5074 matches).

5 solo vs 5 solo is close to 20% (33480 matches. Most popular iteration btw), but is not the game “core design”.

So from 31833 matches (total matches that involve 5 stack), 5 stack have around 16% ratio of “play the game as is supposed” and ≈47% ratio of the most unbalanced winrate scenarios involving solo players:

5 solo vs 5 stack (570 matches)
1 double + 3 solo vs 5 stack (14501 matches)

I have read by stack players that solo players need premades to get matches, but the data provided (tbf we don’t have official blizzard stadistics anyway) doesn’t show that.

The conclussion is the same but with 3 perspectives:

Some people in the forums is willing to ignore solo experience in pro of premade game experience because:

  1. Solo and new players will get into the game and embrace the “phylosophy of the game” so they will join and play in stacks, raising the matches of “how the game is suppose to be played”.

  2. In pro of maintain the “phylosophy of the game” players don’t care about population, so the game don’t need to be tweaked to retain solo players.

  3. The game will increase new players pop, while following the “phylosophy of the game” that cater to group players and retain solo players.

I don’t think 5 stack vs 5 solo is the MAIN reason why the people drop the game. Hero interction and comp based gameplay is the most important factor imo, it is just more evident in QM and premades.

Imo, 4 stacks shouldn’t exist, MM shouldn’t match 5 stacks vs less than 3 stacks and 5 stacks should stick to discord + custom games if they want frequent games.

Ye if it just was this easy.

When you lose against group of smurfs 70-100%wr you get 163points. When you loss then get -237. until blizard employe developers like this (29iw) there is no chance to better

I’m still in shock that some people here can’t comprehend what this entails.

On top of meticulously tailored comps, it is very foolish to assume that it is a just pick up group of random players from in-game public chat. With how small the player base is it is more likely they’re all friends sitting in voice chat.

So whatever measure of mmr you try to explain this matchmaking with, ultimately the system has no redeemable quality. The entire concept is broken.

On a special occasion when I’m in a mood to allow five guys to do a “train” on me, I usually charge a higher rate, but here rather than being offered any kind of a consolation prize for this impossible game that you get placed into, as expected you lose, need to listen to a toxic noob teammate for 15 min and they instead your opponents are rewarded by all the stacked bonus xp while you get literally nothing.

Just a reminder if someone forgot why the game is dead.

Instead of premades being placed at worse odds through the assumption that they can more easily overcome certain challenges in context of group average mmr rating what we tend to experience usually is the polar opposite. Rarely when I get put into a “fair match” usually it is skewed too much by my own rating so the fifth player on my team usually ends up being significantly much worse than anyone on the enemy team (read as lacking basic game knowledge).

I think people are missing something crucial.

5 stack is only an indirect thing that happened because of game’s own decline which resulted in poorer matches and huge imbalance.

Some people just don’t want to be queued with bronze players, which oddly enough is super common once you stack 3/4 that I get bronze 5 players.

Stacking being more and more common is merely the result of Blizzard’s own incompetence 6 years ago, not the players themselves.

team vs team is tough, and the matching making favors it. especially when your team is smaller or less practiced together, you are likely to lose.

So far i’ve been queued with 2 players stating enemy team is a premade and that we will lose. The first game we did lose, but because my team decided to have some of the most brain dead engagements possible e.g. a sandwich attack, in which half of our team is running away, and the other is chasing → complete nonsense. And the second game, we crushed them like nothing.

We have ALL been playing against premades trough the entirety of our HoTS gaming history with and without knowing it, and in the majority of the cases it’s completely fair and fine. The only problem is when some of the best players join up together and absolutely stomp players. I was in a group like that randomly for about 10 games, and AGAIN, not possible without most of the team being exceptionally good. The game cannot MM against that, you can’t MM against an Alarak that is mostly at the skill level of a Master, while sometimes popping off that most GMs can hide. Orphea, etc.

Edit: mb, misinterpreted sentence

You’re changing the subject, this is about groups, with emphasys in 5 stacks and solo iteration, not about skill level MM; you’re even bring up hero iteration into the mix.

!? I have just said that non problematic 5 stacks are, wait for it, non problematic, but people put normal 5 stacks and less into the same group of problem makers, even though the vast majority of them are NOT problematic. People LOVE making problems when none exist, instead of addressing actual problems.

Problematic 5 stacks are the ones with GOOD PLAYERS. The ones nobody cares about are without such GOOD players.

You also CANNOT fix MM regardless if you remove grouping all together, when players who main heroes like Alarak, KTZ, Medivh, etc are inconsistent. One day they are gods, the next 2 they play at the level of Platinum.

People complaining about 5 stacks with tinted glasses tbh, I mean sure the most common group party is 1 duo vs 5 stack, see this game and this game I had today.

But the harsh reality is even though in both of these comps there’s a rather extremely clear strategy happening you can go around it and able to go through a lot of of the nonsense, I just wish the Li Li picked the cleanse on 7 though, would have made everyone’s life easier into the second game.
