i think they said somewhere that they use the terms ‘rework’ and ‘redesign’ or something like that. which is to say that reworks can be mostly just number tweaks or moving things around. where as redesigning the hero alters how they play, sometimes drastically. we can see that in the most recent on with Chromie.
they did mention both Chen and Tassadar in the AMA. i think if they were to both get redesigns it would be an interesting patch. if they combined that with a good bit of other things like an event and such then yes it could be a big patch.
What I’m saying is that it’s a good thing that they’re focusing on something else than new heroes, and finally paying attention to the areas of the game that need it.
In that context, I find the OP’s tone in asking for new heroes to be quite disparaging, and he’s sounding very entitled.
I do wonder if that’s taking into consideration stuff like the switch from set-level scaling to percent-based (that was a big change, right?) for being “big” effects on the game, or ‘biggest’ as in it’ll be the longest set of patchnotes with tons of micro changes like movespeed ±0.01 like dota 2 notes get when Icefrog is trolling the “nerf pls” crowds.
well yea. The important thing here is the storm! The heroes are just of the storm, so any changes to the Storm itself trumps the heroes of it.
OP: asks for a roadmap of releases
You: you sound very entitled
The team is capable of working on both new heroes and other stuff. Like they’ve been doing since before December. Not to mention we haven’t had any communication about a release schedule for 4 months, so this is not the norm. It’s only natural people are going to ask about what’s going on
Wouldn’t that mean the most important part would be the nexus? i.e., maps
honestly, I don’t even know when the event is over anymore. Apparently it’s next week, but the news thing said the 30th
Anyways, I agree OP that it’d be nice to have some sort of communication on this
That might not be such a far strech. I have seen some people point out that Deathwing night have been hinted at in the patch notes. Quote:
“The corporate media would have you believe she uses her gang of hackers to illegally ensure her prophecies become true, but lately her work has turned dark, as if she’s seen a cataclysmic force on the horizon…”
Adding to that, the in-game description for Chromie’s new skin words it as “something sinister rising from beneath the city”, so it adds up with the supposed Deathwing-y themes.
I think it was a comment made for Ana’s changes where they said that her level 1 talents were made during a time when they were ‘quest crazy’ and that it really got in the way… And I think that’s kinda why we’re gonna see this big balance patch, I would not be surprised at all if there were a lot of different directions that the dev team was exploring at first that were abandoned before release, or just weren’t used by the playerbase after release.
I also think that scrapping the Blizzard-half of the competitive scene might help too. I’ve always held the belief that a good competitive game naturally grows out of a fun and engaging base game. I strongly doubt that whomever came up with the idea for DOTA, Counter-Strike, or Starcraft made it purely with ‘woah man, this is going to make a whole new SPORT’… nah, they just wanted a fun and deep game. By dropping that driving focus, the pressure is less to make the competitive scene so spectacular, and more on just making sure the game keeps players in it.
Finally, I can’t speak for others, but I honestly don’t find myself getting EVERY new hero on-release, and furthermore I don’t always find myself playing those characters immediately when I get them. In the case of WoW characters, I’m not very engaged by them, they just aren’t my thing… Meanwhile, I haven’t touched Mephisto or Imperious… Do I really need a new character? Or should I just look at what’s already here and find something different enough… to say nothing of exploring a new build for an old character…
Later people also used a dev post saying something along the lines of “there’s still a few more releases before they see the light of day” as confirmation for Anduin. At the time I said they could have meant a few more content releases before ANY hero. Looking true right about now.
I’m hoping they are intentionally holding this hero back for marketing reasons or something. Maybe it’s gonna be part of big patch with a marketing push and everything. If not and it’s taking them this long to finish up the work on it things are honestly looking pretty grim.
I think itd be better for playability if Hots switches to double-hero releases that are of different roles so the rush of players to try the new content have slightly more stuff to try out while filling more of a team composition
Kevin is only available on the 3rd week of May to do the narration of the new hero spotlight video. Release date has been push back to June to accommodate his schedule. Those secret mobile project are keeping him busy.
I would complain if i had every hero to level 10 plus. As it were i’m not even close and there is a couple dozen heroes (at minimum) that i’ve never played a single match with. I even own all but three heroes and i could easily buy those three if i had any desire to play them.
There’s a lot to master in this game. I can’t imagine being bored with what we already have even if they did literally nothing for another few years.
