Or maybe something Like LoL’s Boot system where theres 1 for everything. talents aren’t performing well enough as options when the enemy has an excessive amount of thigns which means in QM you can have a huge match stacked against you simply because your hero has 0 methods of dealing with excessive spelldamage/physicaldamage/mobility
Would it hurt too hard to have a generic “+20% against _” talent/boot/whatever at level 1 or later? because im tired of going a hero and then being paired against a 5 man team of the exact thing i lack meaning i’m crippled from 0:00
They tried this way back in alpha and it legit broke the game in a bad way.
I loathe the entire concept of it because Heroes was always more about jumping into a game, making your talent choices, and playing to the best of your ability. The whole Grind-to-win thing is just what people use to boast that they aren’t casual or another excuse when it comes to over-analyzing the outcome of a game.
Edit: Here is the announcement article and the removal announcement on the Artifact system if you’d like details.
One other thing to remember is that the game is designed around a draft, so if you are playing QM, there is always a chance you will be hard countered. But keep in mind, there is also a chance that you will be playing a hard counter to someone on the enemy team. That is just what you should expect when queuing for QM.
i would prefer not to have items. That is why I don’t play LoL or Dota2. You steal a kill you get yelled at. Here you steal a kill no one bats an eye because we are not fighting on who gets the points to buy things I like the idea that the game is more team based and not trying to bulk up one person.
The game has enough issues with balance we don’t need to add that to the mix.
No. Just no. I don’t like being intolerant of an idea, but just no.
For one, it’s going to upset the balance of most if not all characters. You’re going to see the average power level of heroes nerfed to account for the added power of the items/merits/etc.
For another, you’re expecting balance in a game mode that makes absolutely no assurance that you won’t be randomly hard-countered. Quick Match promises that you’ll get a match with your chosen character, and that’s it. You might get a map that they do poorly on, you might get a team comp that lacks backup your character would need, but those are exchanged for the ability to pick your character in advance (compared to a competitive mode where you would want to play one character, but the comp requires another)
I would say worst after artifacts but Talent Gating/Unlocks was definitely ridiculous and unnecessary. That and we had people PVPing without all their talents so a lot of heroes were basically an automatic liability without them. It was pretty awful. Pretty much the only reasons I played AI during this time were new hero releases, trying experimental builds, and the dreaded Talent Gating.
Amen to that! I miss when they actively listened to the community. The game was seriously in its Golden Era back when they did. Even with the stuff I disagreed with (which wasn’t too much, mostly nerfs or talent changes), it was very minuscule compared to what’s in the game now. If they continue down this path, I can see them releasing a Heroes of the Storm: Classic for pre-2.0 version of the game and I’d be nostalgic enough to buy it lol.
but why doesnt we have the chess map? It looked awesome but where is it?
For items, it should not be the same that leauge has, but a better version of Volskya items would be nice. Like something similar to wc3, where you kill a camp and it drops a buff or maybe exp. I could be great.
this is y u don’t balance the game off of qm. it is balanced off of counter drafting. yes qm is the most played mode, but still u can’t balance a game around random heroes being thrown together to make a team. the talent system works well when u draft vs someone.
This is perhaps the only way that I’ll be okay with items, introducing them as elements of a map objective.
I think there might be something to having a map with items that you can either use on the battlefield like the healing pulse or turret, or turn in to a particular spot to kinda ‘put together’ your own monster that gets activated by the periodic map objectives.
That’s just what I can throw together… but, yeah, the items that are there in some of the maps leave something to be desired, methinks.
ugh i hated having to unlock talents. especially on heroes where it mattered a lot that you pick a talent that was locked behind the level wall. im glad they got rid of this idea.
ya, artifacts totally broke the game on its brief appearance into the game.
…but hey, it was during the testing phase of the game. no harm no foul. they tested a feature some of the ppl wanted. it didnt work out.
I’m still a little bit miffed about this too! I’d almost forgotten about it, but that chess map had me so excited for what I’d call Karazhan-type stuff. I guess it’s not a very strong theme to center a whole map around, but it would still be fun if they did a more silly/unreality type of map.
