Is this a good maiev build?

  1. Pursuit of Vengeance
  2. Sudden Vengeance
  3. Ruthless Spirit
  4. Containment Disc
  5. Shadow Armor
  6. Vengeful Knives
  7. Shadow Orb Strike

So the idea is to initiate with Blink->Umbral Bind+Containment Disc->Blink for 12% AoE hp damage and put a hero out for 4 seconds before gtfoing to spam fan of knives from afar while Umbral Bind comes off cd.

Relying on hitting 2 heroes with fan of knives is not a good idea imo so getting talents that boost your Q only when you hit 2+ heroes is a definite no.

All the quests that boost pull damage, my thinking is what’s the point? pull damage is a joke, pulls don’t reliably happen because lots of heroes walk with you because they’re wise to your act.

I hate warden cage because 100sec cd is just too long. It’s Triple Tap bad. And heroes can blink out of it. And I think it’s more impactful to turn the fight into a 5v4 for 4 seconds than a cage that is worthless if the opposing team is not in a position to run away.

Did I get the gist of Maiev right?

E build is about % dmg and when your team covers most of the wave clear in a 3 lanes map or simply that you’re the tank with 2 supports.
Vengeful Knives is too good to pass on and does what you’re trying to accomplish with the % dmg.
You’d also want the others lvl 20 for more mobility.
Shadow Orb: Shadow Strike is okay for a follow up on your ult, but the play style revolves around Sudden Vengeance.
You could also go for Bonds of Corruption.
What I’ve gathered from Maiev mains is that her builds are very versatile. Some gets Warden’s Cage to apply her AoE damage easier.
Blackout is an excellent E build Maiev player.

My bad. I misread the description! I thought only AAs build the stacks up but nope. Thanks!

What’s the alternative choice? Huntress? Vengeance seems like a ***** to recharge which is why I went the Shadow Strike. Should I go vengeance? I don’t think I can reliably hit 5 heroes between teamfights late game. Where as I think I can recharge Shadow Orb mid fight.

Doesn’t ruthless spirit also increase that % damage? so 6% becomes 8%. Seems much better and more reliable than Bonds of Corruption.

btw, thanks for helping me out every time I ask a question.

E lvl 4 is AoE when you activate, it counts in the CDR. Try it in Try Mode, you’ll be amazed by how much you’ll get it back fast.

% dmg isn’t affected by damage increase or armor debuff.

Oh. Tide of Sin just got a lot more unattractive.

Ok I will. So that’s 3 blinks in the opening combo then.

You mean for the Total Annihilation synergy?
Q build is burst dmg and T.A. helps to round it up against tanks.

Just beware, you’ll go oom fast.
E resets better get crazy value or you’ll be out of the fight quickly.
You can space out E to dodge spells and focus on getting as much Vengeful Knives value as possible. It’s more mana efficient.

Yeah. 50% damage increase isn’t really 50% when like a good chunk of your globe damage is form total annihilation.

Globe is either for wombo combo or slowly microwaving the squishies to death so they leave the fight. I wouldn’t call that burst.

Mana never matters in a level 20+ team fight. Especially since as the initiator, once you unload your spells your contribution is done and it’s time to hearth unless your team is actually competent and prevented the other team from focusing you down. But even in such a miraculous scenario I don’t think mana matters in a teamfight that ends in like 10 seconds.

Blackout got huntress so I’m a experiment and see whats best for me.
Huntress lets you pull easier and rightclick better and is super easy to recharge…
Shadow Orb lets your team pile on the guy you just pulled.
Vengeance is one more E nuke which is huge.

Spacing might have issues because your umbral bind cd is an issue too. If it cds and your E is like 8seconds left that is a suboptimal situation to be in. If you save the Vengeance to use it when umbral bind is cd again your 20 talent basically just saved you a measily 4-5sec cd off E…

Anyways thanks you’ve been helpful. I’ll experiment and see what’s right for me. Thanks for linking me blackout.

In the competitive scene, you could search for WHPitKid’s (Justing) games on youtube. The replays files are on the discord server.

Ok I think I got the hang of Maiev now.

Maiev is a glass AA hero. As in her main contribution is her AA damage, and being glass, means she’s gonna die without doing anything.

She is not an “initiator”. Initiating will get you killed in 1 second. She is only an “initiator” if your team has a wombo combo. No wombo combo means you play Maiev like a worse Kerrigan.

And that’s why Warden’s Cage is so important. It’s a 5 second worse-than-root. We got stuns, we got stasis/time stop, we got root, and then we got Warden’s Cage. It is mandatory to keep a guy still long enough for Maiev to AA damage it. If she gets blown up then you’re a worthless hero who can’t contribute anything to the current game/matchup.

I still like my build best because fan of knives is a ***** to land on more than 2 heroes. I use it as a burst centered around me that only hits on the rim and not the inside. Thinking like this makes it easier to land. The only time I actively seek to hit more than 2 heroes in one casting is when I am poking. So in taht sense she is better than kerrigan because kerrigan can’t poke. She’s an all-in hero where as Maiev can poke until she sees an opening and then go all in.

Maiev is an AA hero.

Then dont play maeive :stuck_out_tongue:

Fan of Knives is at least 468 dps if you hit the resets on a 7.25 range, including 50ms pings.
Her AA is 161 dps on a 1.5 range.
These are without talents.
In team fights, you’re not always allowed to AA heroes.

You talk like you’re always allowed to fan of knives on 2 targets. Tank in front, assassins behind him, the only one you can FoK is the tank who doesn’t have another hero next to him. Melee assassins dive team still far away from the tank. The onyl real way you’re gonna land a 2 hit FoK is if 2 enemy melee heroes pile on the same guy who is not you.

I’d say that’s a lot more situational than AAing a guy.
