I’ve noticed that in many ARAM games someone will leave in hero select and never return. They likely see their 3 hero options and would rather just not play rather than pick any of the 3. This forces the rest of their team to play with a bot the entire game. In league, if someone leaves in champion select everyone is kicked out to queue for a new game so this type of nonsense doesn’t happen.
My understanding is that the only penalty for leavers is that they must play “leaver queue” which can be cleared by playing ARAM… so in reality the only penalty for leaving an ARAM in hero select is having to play more ARAM??
They aren’t put in the general ARAM queue, but a separate queue with other leavers. At the least, this means they won’t be in your games for a while. The more often they do this, the more games they must win, not just play, to clear the penalty.
I know it’s futile to hope that there’ll be further development on this game, but the bare minimum that they could do is give a game-wide notification when someone dc’s, leaves, or gets afk-kicked so that report numbers increase and we see more of these people getting penalized.
My last 3 aram matches have all had someone who just sat afk until game kicked them and we ended up losing because they got replaced with a bot.
