I used to play a lot with a friend who unfortunately lost access to their old account but recently I found out they made a new one and I’d love to add them and start playing with them again.
The problem is, I have no other way of contacting them so the Battle.net name is the only thing I know which is useless without the #xxxx number behind it.
Is there any possible way to find that number so I can add them to my friendlist?
There is, the question pops up occassionally. What you’d need to do in this case is finding a replay (it can be a very old replay, even from years ago) where your friend was in the match.
Even though the client wont allow you to view very old replays (the maximum seems to be about 6 months to 1 year), it will show the list of names that were present in each game when you click on the Watch tab.
Then, if you locate such a replay with your friends name in it, you need to download a CASC or MPQ explorer (some known ones: Ladik, Zezula, CascExplorer)
You then open that .StormReplay file in this program, you press CTRL+F or Search, and you type in that players name.
It will display their battletag number next to the name.
Hope this was of help. If you actually manage to extract the battletag this way, feel free to post the results.
Unfortunately, if you do not have a replay of you playing with that friend, this task becomes impossible unless you meet them in a chat channel by random chance.
Thank you for the answer.
If that’s the care then I’m afraid I’m not gonna be able to get it. Sadly I don’t have a replay of me playing with that friend on their new account, otherwise I wouldn’t be asking the question since I’d already have them in my friendlist
I think I could watch their replays at hotslogs but I don’t think there’s a way to download them from there so I could open them with the explorers you mentioned.
I also tried finding a way to get it from heroesprofile but it doesn’t say the battletag there either, which I totally understand makes sense because of privaty etc.
Unfortunately those sites have set the sharing of replays as optional, meaning if he didn’t specifically upload it there to be downloaded, it can’t be downloaded.
Wish there was a way. Maybe he or she will read the forum and find you.
Hey, when I try to open a STORMREPLAY file with Ladik’s Casc Viewer, I get an error saying that the system cannot find the file specified. Is there another way I’m supposed to open such files?
