Is Silence fun?

Do you think silence is fun? Why or why not?

Personally, when I play against a hero like Valeera, even though I know she’s not overly tuned and incredibly powerful, silence never feels fun. Especially given things like stealth and unrevealable and unstoppable exist in the game.

It’s fine. Good portion of heroes can hit Valeeraa out of the stealth before she reaches the tp distance with their AoE/skill-shot and you can still move backwards when silenced. If Valeera lost her silence she would need huge buffs to compensate.

I understand that with Valeera. I am speaking about Silence as a game concept in general. Valeera is just a example.

I don’t like silence because I don’t think there’s much counterplay to silence and generally it’s just unfun when you can’t use any of your abilities. I think ability interaction is a fun concept but not ability deletion.

Just like other types of ability deletion like stuns, fears, mind control and the like, being silenced isn’t fun, nor meant to be fun. However they are necessary mechanics to prevent the game from being boring and stale.

If a Genji could just jump into a team, deflect all damage and jump out without any danger, that would be frustrating to play against. You want a way to threaten him that doesnt require everyones damage to be buffed so high that they can kill him in the gap between deflect and him dashing out. Sure you could just take away mobility from most of the heroes, but that would just lower the depth of the game even more.

Silence is a sort of soft cc: it prevents you from using your abilities but you’re still in control of your Hero.
It’s not so oppressive but it may feels that way when you are a squishy target bursted down by Valeera or Alarak and you feel unable to do anything different that walking away, but overall I don’t find it so annoying.

After most stuns in the game were nerfed in duration the silences feel like they last too long. Heroic cooldowns could be justified, but basic abilities are too much. Being able to AA or walk, often slowed, sometimes even by the same hero who silenced you, isn’t a huge boon to justify a lot longer duration compared to stuns.

In general I’d wish we had more access to silences and blinds rather than always getting the general hard CC that works on everybody. The current durations are fine but sadly only so few heroes actually have them as viable talents.

Tassadar: No.

20 silences need.

When i play Alarak i never find silence fun.
I find blowing you and your team in one combo more to my liking.

A silence that lasted long enough would not be fun at all, losing control of your hero never makes a good game experience, For example: Dehaka’s isolation. However given that such long silences are so rare, silence doesn’t really do this atm.

Are your services free or is there an individual charge? Group discount perhaps?

I got to say i always have to do a hasty bargain for it.

Yes it is fun, people can’t use their abilities.

Silence CC is the opposite of Blind CC. Silence Raynor and watch as he LOLs and proceeds to AA you to death. Silence Jaina and watch as she huddles into a ball and dies being utterly unable to do anything. Swap silence for Blind and now the opposite happens…

Silence is effectively the mages form of Blind. It has some other use at stopping mobility moves but that is about it. Trust me, playing Raynor and being Blinded most of the time by a Cassia, Li Li and Johanna combo is equally unfun as playing a mage and getting silenced by Alarak or Valeera…

Like most things, its fine in moderation.

i think the TO is on to something here, i mean sure i think its op, but more than anything its not fun, i find lamb post and stukov’s silence, even polymorph to be acceptable and even fun to try to counter or even getting rekt by it is something i can laugh at.

But Valeera’s silence duration, the fact that its a point and click ability in a stealth hero that could be sitting still in a camp or brush and be completely invisible, and the low cooldown and its talent, it kind of destroys the point of the game, its not fun, I’m accepting of when i get owned and can even laugh it off, but this is ridiculous to the point i don’t think Valeera players deserve what they get out of this point and click ability.

I guess the auto lock bot finally realized this was not a discussion about the in game report silence system and opened the thread again. Machine learning in action.

Yes, I like the silence mechanic but I wouldn’t want every new character released to have it.
