Is lucio a good healer in hots? his ultimate is very good obviously, the shield…but is he overall a good healer?
On another note, how do you guys master lucio? how do you make yourself more useful as a lucio apart from just sitting on healing passive and following people around?
I played him hundreds of games as solo healer because I thought his non-interruptible permanent mount is so great, but he has drawbacks like a fairly high cooldown and mana cost on Amp it Up. I can understand why he is not seen in that many SL games.
But I still pick him just for Sound Barrier against massive multi target burst, like Kel’thuzad chaining multiple teammates and attempting to burst them. That saves countless lives.
He’s not a bad hero, far from it, even in public games he manages to get 50.9% win ratio.
He also has significant advantages over a BW pick: He can boost allied speed and peel away enemies physically by pushing them into things like the stun pits on Battlefield of Eternity. Knowing when to switch between Speed and Heal greatly adds to his skill cap.
His AA damage is also nothing to scoff at, I’ve seen Lucio players top both healing and be very near top of the damage chart too.
His 16 Talent Rejuv can put out a LOT of healing, especially if you have tank/brusier comp!
He can quickly wall ride if someone is on you near a wall, press D and launch yourself off the wall, snaring them in the process. This can also be used to cripple enemies that are attempting to run. Simply D into them, then Q boop them back into your team for easy pickings.
His ultimate shield is really nice, but it requires a bit of thought, especially if a teammate is getting dogpiled, due to the 1sec cast can feel long at times, while other times not noticeable.
Speed boosting is good for getting allies away from chases when the situation turns bad or to be used to chase an enemy down.
The level 7 Reverse amp talent can severely hinder an enemy teams movement speed, although you give up healing, if you want to lock them down for 3 seconds!
Auto attack while moving can let you safely move around some heroes and kite melee characters with low movement speed, and if they manage to catch up to you, boop!
I’m by no means a pro on him, I just enjoy playing him the most
The real trick to playing Lucio is to not stay in the Healing aura all the time, but spend as much time as possible in the speed aura. This makes it harder for your enemies to hit skillshots and the like, and can make it easier for your tank to engage. Also note that Wallriding is key to his survivabilty and positioning, so try to stick to a wall as much as possible. Last but not least, practice using your trait. This allows you to reposition quickly, and can isolate an enemy for your team to kill with the slow and your knockback.
I tend to play Lucio very aggressively, and he is by far my favorite healer to play. I pick him for his utility more than his healing.
I agree with Hoku and Shape, please don’t just play him passively in back line, that is the worst way to play him.
Know when to speed (much of the time) and when to heal (at critical times). Also attack people. Your AA’s hurt. Just like Orphea you can go in and out while dealing damage and staying safe out of enemy attack range.
If you’re feeling bold you can even get the AA heal talent on lv1, this is great and fun on Dragon Shire for one. Even if a ranged assassin arrives to challenge the shrine, you can just pole dance around it, heal yourself and likely drive them away if not even get a kill. They will likely never hit a skillshot on you as you do it.
I use reverse amp and AAs to chase down enemies that is low and running away. So I guess he’s strong point is that he’s a very aggressive, decent damage, high mobility, and overall fun hero to play.
very good point. try to maximize your time in the speed aura
and I will say that wall ride and push off are pretty difficult to use well, at least when compared to other hero traits. you really do need to practice it.
He can be. He’s strong against rot damage, and (importantly) can heal while silenced. He can also speed up his allies in a dive comp, and in low level is strong against skill shots due to his mobility.
He’s week against roots, and struggles with burst damage.
The biggest differences between a good and bad Lucio is positioning: both yourself to maximize heals, and getting your allies into position using speed boost.
Knowing when to dash in and boop people out of position is a big key on him. Timing on changing from heal to speed to back to heal. I play him the most out of all my heroes and just love him.
A healer with baseline displacement is great. He’s insanely effective against sustained damagers, and he has the bro shield or if you aren’t polishing off big bursts, you can take High Five to cleanse your pals. Granted, bro shield is pretty much always more useful. Baseline area healing, as a healer main, is some of the tightest. It’s why I play a lot of Uther too. He roams really well too, especially if you take speed talents.
What he lacks is any hard CC, has to talent into a like .75s stun. He lacks much protection besides peeling. He relies on being near walls for his speed, a good slower or chaser can render him zoned. As aforementioned he runs mana costs blowing Amp It Up all the time so while he does have great area coverage, he can drum himself dry sustaining multiple allies. While his damage can rack up, it’s basically all on basics and a few talents which can feel limited when comparing to say, Alexstrasza or Kharazim who can run much more powerful confrontations.
That is bull and if some reason you are actually able to get top hero damage then whomever you are playing with is terrible. Yes he is good to be agressive with but top hero damage nah
he can “safely” poke the whole game. More or less.
So him topping damage isn’t unbelievable. Almost every game… eh.
But that poke gives him in a typical game, i would guess at minimum double the effective time he can be attacking enemy heroes over most ranged assassins.
I poke all game with him, i main him and even lvl 16 i often take the tallent that lowers amps cooldown. There is no way you are doing more damage than a mage. IF you are then the mage isnt worth a crap.
He is broken if mastered. Ask any master/gm onetrick. He has constant high movespeed and spammable boop. beats even Genji and Tracer in terms of mobility.
Sometimes, I take high five when fighting against KTZ. Just high the 1st chain target and KTZ can say bye-bye to his chain. It maybe better than Sound Barrier because you could high five again when he try again.
I think his talent diversity is more related to playing style than situational.
