Is HoTs Dead? How true is this?

Hey, Friends and content creators say the game is dead, this is by far my most prefered moba game (even though most friends play other known mobas), I havent played for a long time and I was wondering if what is said is true, is the game dead? In the sense that people dont play it?
There was a game where the servers were still up and I remember finding no game for almost half an hour to an hour so I wonder if thats the case here or what do they mean by “the game is dead”, I also saw some known youtuber’s video about the game being dead in the title and so on, I was wondering if all that is true and if so to what extent, thanks.

It’s not dead yet, but it’s been slowly slipping ever since Acti/Blizz pulled the cord on HGC.

At the rate we’re going, we’ve got a least a couple more years, but this game has been leaking players for a while now.

Either way, I don’t particularly care if the game is “dead,” I only care if I still enjoy it. Granted, the playerbase being too small may make that harder, but if my interest lingers that long on its own then we’ll see what happens when we get there.

they say the game is dead as in it longer has competitive scene / the game turned full casual mode / nobody cares about taking the game seriously / people troll in ranked they play it as if they’re playing QuickMatch / development slowed down a bunch / people leaving it / etc… the game is not the same

The game is in a Coma, with health degrading.
There are a lot of us hoping that HotS recovers from this coma, but currently there have been no effective treatments and the prognosis does not look promising.

Thoughts and prayers.

Just login and hit ready for a match. If you are satisfied with the length of time it takes you to get a game, than what else matters?

The game still gets balance patches, reworks and a new hero is said to be coming soon.TM Yet people have been saying it’s dead for like a year and a half.

Some servers are on the verge of death (like Oceania) or got merged, but the game itself is still playable at least during peak times on US/EU = still alive.

People have called HotS ‘dead’ since before it was released but it clearly has enough players to keep queues short. The problem is its position in the Activision catalog: as a publisher of many big games, they can afford to keep HotS running without giving it the AAA love it truly deserves. At this point, if HotS fails, Activision has no one to blame but themselves imo because it truly is a damn fine game. I understand cutting back after monetary losses in esports, but by now they should be able to expand the team and start rebuilding towards a new vision.

Well it’s telling when you type “Heroes of the Storm” into Google search under “People also ask” the top four questions are:

  • Is heroes of the storm closing?

  • Is Heroes of the Storm Dead 2019?

  • Is heroes of the storm still supported?

  • What happened to heroes of the storm?

It’s not dead at all, we just had 2 major reworks and a balance patch, but it’s not what it was pre 2018.

yeah but none of that really means the game is dead.

yes but that’s what they refer to when they say game is dead not as in nobody plays it like other people think. dead doesn’t mean nobody plays it is what i’m saying

What else matters?

  • Match Quality (that stopped being a thing when they allowed parties in Ranked manipulating the system)

  • Bug Free (it’s getting out of control)

  • Balanced (new 60%+ wr hero every patch, many heroes fallen way out of the meta)

  • Fun/Competitive (Yeah not with the latest Anomaly PLZ revert Tower changes)

People are still playing yes you can still get a game, but eventually everyone’s patience with the game will wear thin

When you can’t find a match even after 1 hour, then I would consider it dead. And at that point I don’t care how many people play AI or Brawl. It’s dead.

Dead doesn’t mean there’s literally 0 people playing. HotS can’t work properly across a wide range of ranks if there aren’t a few thousand people online any time you log in.

yeah that’s the thing but as you can see most of the people take the word “dead” as in “0 player’s” you wouldn’t call it “dead” while there’s still people playing it but dead as in the game is no longer the same and everything changed to the worse that’s the whole point of saying “game is dead” the game we used to love is dead.

Maybe they confuse a MOBA with Candy Crush or Diablo, which you can play alone as long as the server is online and you are the only player left in the world. Good luck finding a decent match if HotS ever has only a couple hundred players active 5 years from now.

MOBA’s by default need a big player base to draw players from various skill levels into matches. Or, you can go to Brawl and see what kind of matchmaking happens when you put complete randoms together with each other with zero MMR. It’s pure stupidity, AI people playing with Masters on same team.

HotS is dead when decent matchmaking no longer happens, you could say that has already happened on the less populated regions like Australia or Singapore.
It is not dead yet in the major regions, however. As a HotS fan I’m happy for that.

The game is an embalmed corpse, the funeral keeps getting postponed so they present the corpse to everyone

I prefer the analogy of a bottle of shampoo that’s running out but they keep adding water to make it last longer.

Haha. I like that.

Counterpoint. If there’s water and soap in the bottle, its still not empty, is it.

Might not leave your hair as luxurious as it used to. It might be empty in the future. But it’s not empty now.

It’s not dead yet, but Activision is working hard to change that.
