Or is it manually handpicked? There are some heroes that haven’t been free for months. I’m not complaining though, just interested to know if anyone knows how the process works better than I do.
I don’t know if there is a system in place to full on automate it but I know there is at least enough method to the madness to make sure at least 1 hero from each franchise and 1 hero from each role are available except Support (mainly so every quest can be done)
Whether they coded for that or do it manually I don’t know.
Yeah, it seems to not be completely random at least.
These two websites have the history of the rotation, if you’re interested in digging around yourself.
I have a hunch it’s coded in since, it’s not that hard to create an automated system like that under these conditions. If it was manual you’d sense a bit more bias in the form of more hero variety. For instance, Valla has been a free hero for more than 4 weeks now in the past 2 months I think. I don’t think a human would do that.
Oh thank you for the research!
Cannot speak to how random it may be, but it is fixed ahead of time, it isn’t like it randomly chooses heroes a few minutes before it switches.
So even if the selection is randomized initially, human hands do touch it, and if it is randomized, is likely modified.
No. It has a severe bias against several Very Hard heroes like Lost Vikings and Abathur from appearing. There is a free rotation history in the link Xoxin gave. They appear far less often than they’re statistically supposed to.
And I’m not complaining about that, it’s a good decision.
Someone is manually editing those free rotations.
IF THAT PERSON IS READING THIS, PLEASE PUT DEATHWING NEXT WEEK. Ty
they’re planned out further than 1 week, at least they were last time I checked.
I would guess they at minimum plan them 3 weeks ahead of time. Although I have no evidence, and given that they plan at least some content out over a year ahead of time, it is probably longer.
