Maybe they are referring to another year? Or another time or maybe there is something else like maybe it is viewer consistency (same viewers etc) but I would take what they say with a grain of salt as maybe there are a few MOBAs offered deals.
Edit:
Note this is coming from someone who loved HGC, misses it and still watch HOTS on twitch (and YT) whenever I can, even though I haven’t played the game for over a month.
HGC actually got me into this game. I played early due to a WOW cross over and friends playing and didn’t like it.
Then bored one day opened twitch; LOL came up as most popular watch it for a second and seemed boring but better than WOW PVP. HOTS came up (maybe this is due to the deal or the fact the only game I followed was WOW) , I’d played it before so knew about it and watch a match, LOVED IT and been addicted ever since!
Considering ads are played at the start of a viewing session I don’t believe it would matter if the viewer numbers were higher.
Simple fact is LOL was watched more than HOTS but unless the data comes directly from twitch we will never know.
Ok so, the reason Twitch cares more about consistent viewers, and thus HotS viewers, is mainly due to bits. Which I guess doesn’t count as advertizing since it’s a completely different money making model.
Ads are a fixed income amount. You tell a company a given broadcast has X amount of viewers on average and charge them $X for it.
However, the longer a viewer stays and watches something on twitch, the more bits they will spend and buy. And if you stay long enough, you’ll run out of bits and buy more. So there isn’t an actual limit to how much you can make on bits.
So for that reason. You’ll care more about viewer consistency than viewer number. Because a low amount of consistent viewers will give you more bit money than a large amount of viewers who don’t stay to watch the whole thing. (It helps that HotS games were shorter than LoL’s )
That’s why they made the deal.
Twitch and Blizzard Entertainment signed a two-year deal in June 2017 to make Twitch be the exclusive streaming broadcaster of select Blizzard esports championship events, with viewers under Twitch Prime earning special rewards in various Blizzard games.
Life is a comedy. WoW and Barfstone are hilarious when you consider how many billions they’ve made off herd mentality normies. People spend hundreds or thousands on a card game, truly insane and laughable. And WoW, inferior to Guild Wars (no monthly fee), got suckers to pay year after year. Great metric for how badly Western culture has been failing but oh well.
Doom Eternal had mountains of dead Ken dolls. I assume all the ladies were used to help Hell reproduce. The children were most likely sent into a chamber of despair to siphon all the fear to fuel Hell’s power.
You’ve got to know your audience though, and the audienc,e the people who are willing to spend 30+ dollars to see the show live over the internet or even worse the people live who spent several hundreds to make a vacation out of going to Blizzcon
Who in their right mind thinks that audience who are big into Blizzard as they are now, would want to see a Mobile game as the show piece, as the endgame of the opening Ceremony…
Literally all it would have taken to assuage ALL the damage done was to have an obvious “yeah I think that’s… hey why are htel ight’s going out” and then, 20 seconds …. Evil sounds and boom Logo for D4
“Oh right we’re also developing this new game Diablo 4 for all the machines you all know and love”
Boom problem solved
If not that then maybe at least squeeze DI into the middle of the ceremony not what was supposed to be the showstopper
Remembers the rising tide that was the Chris Nolan Batman Trilogy, the original Star Wars trilogy and several other actually good trilogies and other franchises that had upward momentum just by holding on
I don’t think it’s normal for a franchise to burn out as bad as the gap between A NEW new Hope (I mean Force Awakens) and Rise of Skywalker. Certainly not one with as much fan anticipation as star wars
I agree that the drop in quality and audience reception of the Star Wars sequel trilogies decline was more extreme than other examples, such as Nolan’s Batman Trilogy. It is still worth noting that in terms of Box Office, even Nolan’s films suffered from diminishing returns with each entry, something that is not uncommon.
No, I am not equating quality or even audience reception with box office results. However, a quick scan over the box office results for even the most beloved movie trilogies, almost always the third entry generates less money/audience interest than what preceded it.
Discussing anything Star Wars on the internet, often courts controversy. I will say, I like the original trilogy, but nothing released after was for me. I either aged out of these kinds of movies or the subsequent trilogies are simply bad. Not only that, but I abandoned both the prequel and the sequel trilogies after the second entry.
SW will, though, always have a special place in my heart, as a New Hope was the last film my husband wanted to see, and was the final film we watched together before he died.
Star Wars has as much in common with “feminism” (a very broad, complex and nebulous concept) as it has in common with communism. But thank you for making my eyes roll out of my head, please continue with your bumper sticker analysis approach to media and complex social ideologies.
careful not to role too hard you may end up like me who only says one thing to him
oh and without further ado
go be a little ray of sunshine somewhere people want you to be a little ray of sunshine instead of shining your little ray where sunlight is not wanted
Speak for yourself, Minky’s sunshine is always welcome even when I’m stirring up a pot of Feces with bringing up my hate of all things Lucasfilm other then the “dying” MMO that is Star Wars the Old REpublic
So be nice or I will show you how a Jedi makes people bleed
I guess when you spend 4 (?) Billion acquiring the IP, it’s gotta make that back and more. Art and creativity (outside the art department/cinematography) seems to be an afterthought. The script is usually the cheapest part of a production, yet they throw good money at bad ideas.
irrrRELEVENT
the banner of war has been planted and now the apocalypse is nigh I shall bring a tide of unreasonable contempt to most upon this forum
I shall also eat all the ice cream, specifically the chocolate flavor
what Ice cream and apocalypse have in common I have yet to figure out but the link is there… somewhere
It could have been even cheaper and better at the same time if they had used the scripts/outlines of scripts they brought with that 4 million
So I don’t even think it is economics it’s just stupidity, and the ego of an in charge lady with a huge chip on her hsoulder intent to tear down a legacy
As I mentionned, a show of Diablo 4 was announced. But it was pulled out shortly before for an unknown reason.
Also, you have to understand that they didn’t see any problem needing to be solved.
As it was their first big mobile game. They had to make a show of it.
Every time someone quotes a person I blocked, I remember why I blocked them.
Well I finally know who this was for
But if we’re complaining about stuff. I’m not gonna bash on Disney, but I will say I am really effed that Nintendo wants to sell us Mario RPG for 80 friggin dollars. Nothing in the game was even changed. They just put some new textures and go. “Here’s a premium game”
