Imperius Mana Issues?

Just got him in a box and started playing him.

All around fun design. Love the combo design with the burst payoff.

But I feel like I am always mana starved.

I generally only W in a lane battle with the very occasional E to heal up, yet everytime an objective spawns, I feel like I am at less than half mana which I quickly blow through.

Is this a l2p issue for me? Vant think of any other hero I struggle mana wise as bad as Imp.

No im also burning to 50% mana really fast and then remind myself I should use my abilities wiser

It’s mostly a l2p issue. He gets oom very quickly if you spam his abilities, so be sure that when you use one, you are getting value out of it. He is not a poke hero, so definitely don’t just throw random things at people.

Mostly you want to throw some Ws to slow people is possible (dont just use it to do damage and poke) and find a good Q target or follow up one someone with Q; then you use E to burst them with your team.

I feel like Imperius is really good in a blow up comp with Ming or something.

The more you’ll play him, the less mana hungry your Imperius will become.
His ability rotation is a really strong and impactful engage combo, but his AA is formidable on its own.
So just keep yourself from spamming your abilities and you’ll be fine.

I almost always take Holy Fervor at 7, as it makes his AAs cleave for several hits. If you are in lane, this is the most mana and time efficient way to clear things, and it adds a little punch to his AAs in general.

His big mana chonker is his E. From my experience its best to be more hesitant when using your E, as to not use it too often and burn through your mana.

Sooooo you try a hero for the first time, and because you manage your mana poorly…the Hero possibly has a problem?

It’s not you, it’s definitely an Imperius problem. I started playing him a few weeks back and have fallen in love with him and have him to almost level 25. He is constantly mana starved, mostly because his molten armor costs a whopping 75 mana. Don’t use that ability on cooldown but rather for heals if you need them and kills if you think you can get them. If you use it on cooldown you’ll run oom after just 2 or 3 rotations.

i believe after the mana patch a little while back, a blue said that they left imperius’s costs high on purpose. so i guess he’s supposed to have an emphasis on mana management

Not 100% a L2P issue. Imperius has to manage mana more than many other heroes.

But it isn’t insane, and I think it is very fair.

I clearly stated “I” have a mana problem with Imp and asked if it was a L2P.

Imperius is a Mana Hog, for the most part watch how you spam your E.

W spam is fine, you actually regenerate mana roughly from 50% to 80% of your W spent. (You regenerate 40 mana for 50 mana spent at 20, and 25 mana at lvl 1.)

Q shouldn’t be an issue because you don’t use it willy-nilly anyways.

I agree with this. Imperius is about proper ability usage. In a lot of ways he’s kind of a combo hero. You just can’t spam abilities at every target.

I do have one problem with his Q though. I absolutely hate it when you stun someone near the far end of the spear. You should be rewarded for the stun but you can’t get in an AA before they walk away. It’s pointless to stun them if you don’t have another hero to follow up because if you catch them on the far end of the spear you just can’t follow up with an AA yourself. This really sucks since you get bonus damage for AA’ing targets you hit with your abilities.

This is annoying yeah, but I don’t see it as a problem or something like that. Most of the time, you want people to follow up on your Qs anyway.

I find it very frustrating personally. If i’m in the solo lane I want all the damage I can get on my opponent to keep them out of lane. It sucks that you are seemingly denied that damage. I’m not sure if it’s the animation or what. I just keep hoping I’ll see a fix for it in the next patch.

Keep your W for a Q follow up then (or if you use W before Q, since they’re slowed, walk closer so you don’t hit them with the tip of the spear).

I like to slow with the W and then land my Q. It works well but every once and awhile a target will get stunned on the far half of the spear. In my experience I rarely get the follow up AA when that happens. Sometimes Imperius will randomly just AA the nearest minion over the hero stunned too. I wish he got like bonus range for a completed stun or something so he can actually be rewarded for stuns at all ranges. He is after all a bruiser so he’s mostly going to be on his own in one vs ones.
