Imperius Garbage Ultimate

Lets see I can choose between a sick shield that turns into an awesome damage nuke if it holds the full duration, or a clunky wannabe Garrosh throw on an 80 second cooldown.

A shield is useful and tide turning in so many situations. Every situation, in fact. A channeled throw ability that takes ages to land and can be countered in many ways is useful in maybe one or two situations.

Everytime I think ‘maybe i’ll find a good situation to use it that definitely states its worthiness in being picked over the shield/nuke’ I end up feeling like I should have just picked the shield.

Instead of just complaining about it though I’ll throw out a couple of suggestions as to what can make it viable.

Faster movement in the air. When people see you charge at someone and grab them, they just follow you. This makes it nigh impossible to actually isolate anyone in a team fight. You move such a small distance because of the low movement speed.

A lock on instead of a skill shot. Tyrael gets a lock on, shorter cooldown AND unstoppable while charging. And, he doesn’t take himself out of the fight for the same time as the enemy he charges. Missing or being dodged (which happens a lot unless following up from a Q because of the wind up time) then having to wait 80 seconds is pretty depressing.

The level 20 upgrade for it is boring and uninteresting. But taking into account what I just said, is actually necessary for it to feel like it’s at least usable. But it comes at level 20, most games are coming to a close by then. If this level 20 was baked into the ability itself gained at 10, that would feel much better. Then the 20 upgrade could, say, stun everyone around the impact location, or grab an extra target.

As it is right now, it just feels like a janky, less effective variant of other warrior’s isolation abilities. A major part of this I feel is the long cooldown.

It makes such a grandstand over what essentially boils down to a Garrosh throw with a self 2 second stun thrown in there. Garrosh’s throw is effective because its quick. You get genuinely scared when Garrosh comes close to you because you know if he gets in range you will be thrown and immediately find yourself in a pickle.

With Imperius, he’ll probably miss, or you can just dodge it with little problem, and even if he does hit you with it, you’re moving so slowly through the air that any team mates with a brain will just move with you. The whole thing takes too long to be anything near shocking.

I hope I’m not the only one who feels this way about it. Pretty much everything else about Imperius is great. Very strong, fun hero to play.

Hotslogs says otherwise. Wrath of the Angiris constantly ranks ahead of Shield in winrate in both low ranks and high ranks.

Keep checking hotslogs instead of experience and logic and ultimately the game will fail. Some of the best talents nowadays everyone use were used to be unpopular and had low win rates back then. Checking only “winrates” to balance the game was one of the biggest fails Blizzard does in HotS imo. With this logic, Li- Ming and Medivh needs massive buffs.

Ehhh…so garrosh’s throw is a bad ability now?
So much garbage you want a dash version of it to be a lockdown and not a skill shot.
The cooldown at 10 is too high i agree with. It most likely is because of the level 20 talent so reducing the baseline cd and nerfing the 20 cdr could be an option.
Adding the cdr at 10 is ultra OP though.
I don’t see why you even compare it with judgement which is a dive that let’s you vulnerable in the middle of their team afterwards.
The staying time on the air helps even braindead QM dwellers to be able to follow up on it with all the telegraph.
Shield is more picked right now because imperius is squishy and has 60 sec cd.
After his most likely durability buffs we may see the other ult picked more.[quote=“Conlan-2108, post:3, topic:13111”]
Keep checking hotslogs instead of experience and logic

OP didn’t use logic here.

For the Ult and utility Imperius has to offer, my suggestion is try to learn a better hero for the position (if any) he offers, because there is way better picks.
The 60 second Ult
Angelic armaments is still the better pick than Wrath because of the damage and shield output it offers. But still, there are better offlaners or damage dealers that do any of his job better.

He does need multiple buffs, and that includes Wrath.

Also, try not to use HotS log as much…

I already have Imperius to level 15, so yes, I’m talking with experience AND statistics on my side.

I did check it, and in Master/Diamont HL & TL both are at roughly same win rate of 47%, with Angelic Armaments having almost twice the pick rate.

When you add to that that Imperius is overall weak, that means that yeah, Wrath of the Angiris should get a buff (I suggest that it also damages and stuns other enemies on landing, while it would be also nice if we could move over structures and terrain while ‘flying’).

I’d say it’s not Imperius’s ultimates that need buffs. All of his abilities below his ultimates are low winrate. In addition Imperius has had a “bottom of the barrel” winrate for two weeks. This suggests the problem is far deeper than just bad ultimates. I’m actually going to make a post about it.

I still see no reason why it couldn’t also damage and stun enemies on landing at least, making it a way more interesting ability that would give you a choice of either nuking your enemies or isolating a single target.

I agree that his heroics are not his only issue, though.
Here’s a link with my more detailed thoughts on the matter:

i wait patch notes idk what they do
2weeks and still no imperius change

I don’t think they can do that. What happens when it ends when you’re over a large piece of terrain? Where does it put you and your target? It might get a bit messy.

2 weeks after release patch notes are always on wednesdays.

Lvl 16 Imperius here with solo QM 58% wr.

Judgment vs WotA comparison is not well out thought. Judgment is dive, WotA is isolation.
You grab someone and take him to your team. “Math of the Storm” (or what it’s called, Mortal Wombat the one who usually links it) calculated that you are faster than base movement speed while in the air and you have a team, so how the enemy destroys your isolation attempt every single time?
Also WotA is not a Garrosh Throw with a selfstun. It’s a Tass’ Dimensinal Shift with Maiev’s Containment Disc followed up with a big stun and some nice dmg next to the bodyblock it provides. It’s a good Heroic. Plus Garrosh Throw is close ranged and can target minions as well. BW’s Polymorph is basekit, Medivh’s Polybomb is Heroic.
The same true about most of Imperius’ kit and talents.
He needs a little help with mana, tweaking his lvl %-based dmg talent and his heroic upgrade and that’s it imo.

You need WotA when you need to provide extra CC. Since he’s a bruiser, that won’t be the most common scenario, but Angelic Armaments is easy to counter with summons, standing between minions and anti-shield talents.

Tldr: Wrath of the Angiris is far from garbage.

The point of Judgement is to force a teamfight, one he can win. Use it on a squishy hero and drag them into your team and the enemy either has to let them die, or go all in and team fight. Remove their healer or main damage dealer and the fight is as good as won.

It is mechanically better than a Garosh throw because it has a lunge and only hits heroes. Garrosh’s main weakness is no self mobility so although he can throw on demand he has a lot of problem getting in range to do so and even then he has to fidget with positioning when in lane to make sure to not waste it all by throwing a minion.

Usually patch notes get released either Tuesdays or Wednesdays, it’s really strange that why one time it’s on Tuesday the other is on Wednesdays…

Patch notes 2 weeks after a hero release are always on Wednesdays.

Other balance patch notes are on Tuesdays.

Idk, I wouldn’t underestimate a Heroic that not only briefly removes a Hero from the game, it also allows you to reposition them.

I haven’t tested this, but if Stitches eats someone and Imperius grabs him, does the eaten player pop out immediately or are they taken along for the ride? I guess either way it’s a decent Gorge counter.

There are some questionable procs that happen when the enemy Hero is Gorged. A Master Tank player has noted that Muradin’s third wind procs inside, and the healing trait or passive of other heroes procs within the absence time.
Not sure if this was a bug or intended.

Also Imperius can counter poison, and Kharazim’s palm too during the time in air. Which is a plus.

They should make his spear so you can activate it while impaling someone and flip them behind you. That would be cool.

Simple; if ‘flight’ ends on terrain or structure, Imperius will land with his victim on the closest ‘legal’ location, simple as that.
And honestly, LoL is basically doing that already with Kayn’s E (it’s a terrain based mobility ability that can also end while he is inside terrain), so if Riot can think of a way to make it work, I see no reason why Blizzard can’t (or am I asking too much from a small indie company like Blizzard).
