Id love to see Blizzard make the jump with Heroes, Hearthstone, WoW, Starcraft and RTS Warcraft now that Xbox has mouse and keyboard support. If mobile is gonna be a thing for them, then they might as well put their IPs on other major platforms as well.
With cross play I dont see how it could hurt to continue to add new players to each of their IPs that seem to be struggling with player base. Im sure PC purists will disagree…but it seems thats what would be best for business going forward if Blizzard chooses to expand its reach
Not to bash or disparage console users but honestly. I would rather console specific and pc specific games on the simple basis each is better than the other in their own way. For instance console is better for fighting games. But PC is superior for RTS. You can make a game that fits on both but it never quite plays right. Like the Overlord series. The controls are clunky on PC.
You make good points but fighting games like DBFZ work just fine on PC when you have a good controller. I’ve used an old Wii U pro controller on both PC and console and there isn’t much difference.
hence why PC is always better. with the caveat of “as long as you are willing to shell out the required funds for a decent machine.” computers and consoles exist in the same household but computers are hands down more than just unitaskers. your console is just a gaming box pretty much. your computer does a lot more.
the only real thing consoles have been able to hold over PCs like forever is standardization. you buy a console and all the consoles are the same. if you buy a PC one of them can be different from every other one. which makes it harder on game devs when it comes to development and optimization.
The one advantage that Consoles have is that the people making the console games ALWAYS know what the specs of the console will be, and only have to make the game work on that one system, where as PCs games can have a wide variety of specs that they have to work with.
(Not saying this is an endorsement for switching to a console or anything, just saying it is easier on the game developers.)
What’s with saying “why nor console”?
As if they weren’t working on console games too.
They literally launched the (second) D3 console port this month, OW is on console, and some of their older games also had console versions (Diablo 1 and Warcraft 2 had Playstation versions, and Starcraft+BW a N64 version, that I know of).
One of the co-founders of Blizzard clarified it recently in an interview with Rhykker:
They have “multiple teams working on multiple projects” (sure used that phrase a lot) across all their IPs and across all platforms (mobile yes, but also PC and console).
A Switch is vastly different from a PS4 and Xbox One.
I own a Switch myself and I own it because you cant get Zelda and Smash anywhere else. if I had the money I would buy a PS4 for. Spider Man and God of War.
Xbox is and always has been a waste of money. (The exception is for Halo)
can you upgrade the switch? like give it a new graphics chip? better processor? more ram? etc. all switches are still the same. sure, the switch is different from other things. its still a standardized piece of equipment though. which was the bigger point to be made.
well, that and the fact that no matter what kind of gaming console you happen to be on you cant do everything a PC can do.
HOTS is already likely dying as it is, with queues and matchmaking getting worse and worse every day that passes. the idea that they would invest even more resources just to put a dying game on consoles makes no sense, especially a MOBA (which is largely a PC crowd thing).
Very doable but there isn’t much reason to. like with Mobas, most of the people playing these types of games are already doing it on PC since the required specs are extremely low (it’s also on mobile since mobile games are very easy to develop and maintain).
WoW is also arguably dying, with the devs still refusing to show official subscription numbers ever since they started getting lower sub numbers. putting in even more money to bring it to consoles when the devs can’t even maintain the game on PC is silly.
Already been done and mostly failed. Starcraft, starcraft 2 and starcraft remastered can run on potato PC’s which are much more cost efficient than PS4’s and Xbone’s. Even if someone is running on only integrated graphics, a simple $100-$150 upgrade can get someone anything from a GTX 1050 (which can play a lot of AAA titles at medium settings) up to an RX 570 (which can play a lot of AAA titles at high/ultra very well.
I assume you mean warcraft 3. again, same problem as before. these games are often easy to run on PC so very inexpensive upgrades would allow maxing these games out and such.
Consoles usually have big issues with ports in the current generation because of the complexity of each one and the hate that they have for one another. The multi-core processing stuff was what really started making it difficult for developers to begin with and it has only gotten more complex with subsequent console generations. The simplicity of most phones by comparison and how they share operating systems is why there’s a shift to the mobile in addition to the number of potential players. But, the individual services of Playstation Network and Xbox Live has become frustrating as they place additional requirements, such as making voice chat a must, or having exclusive servers as their requirements for the game. Mobile does not have these requirements.
The numbers thing of the WoW section isn’t true, it was confirmed a few days after that “leak” to be not accurate with multiple people who looked into it saying the numbers didn’t add up even the source that brought it up in the first place.
