If I get constantly matched with noobs

while opponents are not noobs, does it mean I am a noob or I’m too good?

Statiscally there are equally chances to get noobs on both sides, so if you are constantly losing, then it means you are a “noob” too.

Depends.
Are you winning?
If yes, stop smurfing and play your real account
If no, git gud(der).

If I am a noob, then matchmaking is supposed to match me with stronger players so that both sides are equal? If matchmaking matches noobs with noobs and pros with pros, is that discrimination?

Maybe. The matchmaking system in SL looks for the rank of your team, the enemy and you and then it trys to match you after your team rank/mmr, so that your team and the enemy team are (almost) equally on the same mmr and rank.

For example, if you are silver 1 and then the system will look for other silver 1 player, but if there aren’t some in time, but you get a gold 5 instead, then the matchmaking system trys to make it equal and look for the enemy also an gold 5. The team rank is the deciding factor to get equal matches in this system.

And this means you will theoretically matched with equal players, but it is also possible that your teammates are stronger (smurfs) or weaker (boosted player by friends), because the matchmaking matches you after your team mmr and not for your winrate, kdr or kda.

I’m talking about QM.

Well QM has a hidden MMR that means it matches you after your hidden team mmr.

What does that mean? Low hidden MMR matched with low hidden MMR?

Low hidden MMR matched with low hidden MMR?

There is only hidden MMR in QM (the game engine would support showing it as a numerical value like in SC2, but for some reason they wont do it). So if your team average is 1800, it tries to match you against 5 other players whose MMR average is 1800.

That doesn’t mean everyone on your team will be 1800 though.

You can arrive at that number by having a 1300, 1600, 2500, 1700, 1900 on your side (average of these is 1800).

So you as a 2,5k get the honor of ‘buddy mentoring’ that 1300 who will likely feed a lot and generally be out of their element.

It’s not always fun, but it’s apparently the best Blizzard can come up with.
Or, at least, it is how they deemed matches will be created the fastest.

ps. You can view strong, almost-accurate approximations of these numbers if you upload all your games to a site like Heroesprofile.

good to know, and sometimes, it says “expanding search”, which could match a weak team against a strong one? It seems to have happened a lot.

It could. Generally, you would want to cancel the queue if you see that “expanding search” text.

If a game is found under expanded search, a lot of matchmaking rules can get thrown out the window and it will just find you 9 other players asap (even regardless of their MMR).

Got it. Thanks again. I will give heoresprofile dot com a try.

I have the same problem, I am 99% of the time the best player on my team and the rest are potatoes. I will assume I am just being used to give noobs a chance

QM MMR has no limit, you can play with silvers and be diamond.

I’ve seen 4-stack masters get bronze 4 lost vikings and that was a painful experience to watch against a strong diamond team.

Apparently the vikings are also level 50 (hero not account) which was depressing to watch at the same time.

i know the feeling, even if i play QM or unranked i got paired wiht very low level accounts, while the other team has higher lelvel accounts, i know the account level not always indicate if someone is a good player or not, but I could say that 99% of the times that I meet a player with an account level lower than 100 in my team, they are someone who has no idea of how to play and we lose

Are you sure they are noObs? Maybe they are f*****’ potatoes, they are everywhere!!!

That is Regular experience in QM if you play as 3-4 man master party. System will find you the worst of the worst players to “balance” the average MMR into some plat-diamond game level that has more players. It’s pretty rare to meet master player in QM and MM certainly doesn’t put any effort in trying to find that to make a game. Much easier to make the lower level game which makes terrible match quality.

I’ve played some QM to try hogger (i’m masters) and i got matched with a bronze 3 player. Thats like top 1% with bottom 1% in the same team. I dont wanna be toxic to the lower level players but god damn that was frustrating for me and most likely very frustrating for him. He ended up with like 14 death or something like that, getting abused by mostly diamond opponents. MMR just doesnt “even out” like that. Its far easier to drag a team down then to carry a team up. 4 masters + 1 silver will get destroyed by 5 diamond players. They will keep abusing the silver mistake and make it into a 5v4.
