After telling us the website, what ranks you were checking out and over what period of time, can you tell us the popularity of Alarak in that league AND where these winrates actually stack in comparison to other heroes in that league? Because saying “50% is middle of the pack” doesn’t mean anything if that hero is bottom 10 heroes for winrates in that league (This is a phenomena that happens especially in Master League due to master games often including diamonds).

Across what measure of time? Also this is an invalid metric. Looking at a characters’ stats overall across all leagues tells you NOTHING about his performance in skilled play, especially when you consider that about ~91% of the playerbase is Platinum or below, ~8% are in Diamond and ~1% are in Masters.
