Just stick to getting illusion master every game and learn the tricks. If you start taking bladestorm you will not be able to stop doing the easy thing.

There are legitimate reasons to pick Bladestorm these days. Very high ranked streamers like Munky started using it in late 2020.
I used to make fun of the heroic but not anymore. There are matches where you can barely AA anyone (two heavy tanks, two blinds and an AA slow, etc), so unless you take Bladestorm you’ll be a camp taking bot for 20 mins.
(Illusion Master is still much more rewarding and higher impact in general in many matches.)
To OP, play as many E talents as possible. It makes him a really fast and durable ganker. Though on 16 you can substitute Harsh Winds for Press the Attack, but One with the Wind is perfect for that ganking build.

Well you should probably not spamm samuro and fp him generally. I only play him when I feel like I get to press some attacks.

I accidentally picked him when I meant ot ban him in a storm league game
It didn’t end as poorly as I expected, I still sucked but not as bad as I expected.

E + Bladestorm is the easiest.
Did you do the A, Q, B, Shift+D exploit for the hearth swap trick?
Like Lucifer said: In early game you can keep healing up by 35% instantly, by using the Hearthstone trick.
If you keep walking/running back to lane slowly he’s not being played to his full early game potential.
There were a few other tricks like instantly mounting up on an illusion to evade death, but those are patched so no need to worry about them. Just remember the key queue above.
