I tried Probius after rework

I dont think I like him, he just doesnt have the same zoning capabilities that got me into him, I dont know if im just playing him wrong or what but the only success i got was just throwing his Q over and over again and spamming cannons, its aight but it just feels weird to play.

I was far, far, far from being a Probius main or even a casual, but he feels quite different to play, even for me. Give it some time to adapt. I’ve had many of my mains reworked and it usually takes a bit to find new builds you like and get familiar with changed mechanics.

I miss the full duration on Warp Rifts a lot. The skill just feels so much less flexible. The automatic exploding is nice, but I’d much prefer having nine seconds to work with them.

People calling this a rework lol.

There’s less chance of getting caught out of position or taking poke damage while in a lane since the rifts explode by themselves. Ability to place cannons outside of pylon field somewhat compensates for the lost vision control. Objectively still a bad hero with no build variety which will only require one of the equally annoying counters (Nazeebo, Zagara) to keep in check, and once that happens, you end up playing 4v5.

He seem very balanced, or at least not crippling overpower like how Zag was. I don’t dread seeing an enemy prob but I know to be carful around him.

I feel like a 4 or 4.5 second duration would have been the goldy locks spot.

I think there should be a talent that brings it back to the old duration or longer.

probius is that one hero i just can’t get into. But I might try after reading this

It’s a makeover! The Probe has never looked so shiny!

Well you know how it is, instead of playing to his unique attributes they just try to make him a worse version of Kael’Thas/Gazlowe.
Whatever is left of the team really lacks creativity.

he was a better version of kaelthas and gazlowe before (when it comes to zoning) now he lost that and just spams Q and E and occasionally W to group them up

I acknowledge your criticisms of the revamp, but from the patch notes it’s clear they are trying to make Probe a little less niche and give him builds the average Joe can play, while retaining his high skill cap.

They may or maybe not have achieved their stated goal, but I don’t think it was due to a lack of creativity. As a Probie main, what would you change in his talents and kit to make him acceptable to less skilled players but also keep what was unique about him for skilled Probius mains? That’s if this is even possible.

So far 1 game with new Probe. Won it, mostly due to something the Probe already had: Pylon Support Shields and the “oh you thought you’re ganking me but I ganked you” trick with Pylon Overcharge.

Well we already have mages that run up and drop delayed aoes on the enemy team.
Previously he had some capability to shape the flow of the battle by placing numerous long lasting slows that have the potential to also do damage.
Building up a defensive location is the identity of Probes in a forward combat position in Starcraft, so why not stick with it?

I don’t know specifically what would make him more fun in that way.
Maybe building cannons or Pylons near Warp Rifts that have been up for 2 seconds gives them a sizeable cooldown reduction.
That could help with rotations, which is something people here seem to struggle with, and give an alternate way to play aside from dropping rifts on enemies that neither removes that option nor particularly works with it to make it stronger (without increased risk)

I agree with the change that lets Probius build cannons outside of a power field.
It’s not accurate to Starcraft, but his buildings aren’t permanent in Heroes and you don’t have multiple probes, it’s harder to build up before a battle.

I don’t mind the auto-explode at the end of the rifts, but removing the long duration takes away some of the identity they built up.

I just think they could have done something that would emphasize the differences the hero has.

i wish they didn’t remove the zoning side of those warps it feels pretty underwhelming to go straight up losing most of its duration

Yeah, its more about zoning with cannon now.

Maybe Rift Shock can be that talent. Alter it a little bit so that the bonus damage happens if you hit it within 2-3 seconds and it passively increases Warp Rift’s duration to 6 (or even back to 9 seconds)

From 45.89% WR to 54.23% WR on lvl 1 to 80.

Fan still doesn’t acknowledge how good Probe is now, that’s on him.
Nic played it a lot already and I consider him now one of the best Probe player.

Fan also doesn’t acknowledge Lunara so I’m personally not expecting anything out of him :joy:
