Last season I had ranked in platinum. I Have not done my placement matches this season. My portrait have been the one with the platinum border with two gems since last season.
Then today I was just taking it easy with some quick match. In a quick match loading screen, in between two matches, it had changed to bronze with two gems. And it stayed that after the quick match.
I searched for a long time to see what could have caused this, but all searches brought up nothing similar.
What happened?
There are no rank borders in QM. You are confusing Rank borders with Level borders. Your portrait will stay the same, but your rank border is not shown in QM.
Various account levels give various border colors. When you play QM, Brawl or Unranked, your Account Level border + Account Level is shown in the loading screen.
When you play Storm League, your current rank and division + rank border are shown.

Oh ok. Thank you. I had just hit level 1.400 so it makes sense. My color blindness makes it hard to distinguish the nuances, so I had assumed wrongly.
