So i returned this month to Hots after a few years and i am kind of surprised to see things changed. I checked all the heroes after a few games and i was kind of outraged to hear specialists do not exist anymore and majority of that class is now ranged and melee assassins. I am curious to ask is this something players wanted or asked for over the years? i am mostly confused now because after quiet a few games upon coming back i still do not see probius as a ranged assassin or murky as melee assassin for example.
Specialists are technically still specialists just need to spec into their âspecialistâ talents.
Syl, Naz and Azmo can still lane push quite hard
Hammer still can protect her team long range
Med can still protect his team
While nearly all heroes got tweaks into their new roles, you can still play them as they technically were before
Specialist was a non-class. In practice, there is no difference between what Fenix does to a match and what Probius does to a match â clears lanes and blows people up. On the flipside, there is a massive difference between Abathur and Nazeebo. Lumping a bunch of extremely disparate playstyles under one branch when the only connective tissue was âtheyâre weirdâ was not a good system.
Likely if the game was still in any form of real development, we would have seen some changes by now in terms of hero classification. Game has been on the shelf for 3 years now. Hopefully Microsoft brings back development, but not holding my breath.
My king, you have returned! You have been away a very long time. The kingdom has changed.
Certain subjects of yours were thought by many to be lacking in times of battle. So they were trained to better contribute, as they were often perceived as selfish glory hogs.
They were stripped of their previous titles, and received new ones in accordance with their newfound status
Specialists, as others had written, were oddballs that did not fit in any other category and where just tossed together, though most of them were siege masters. They had been reworked to be moved into other roles.
They can still push lanes and do a lot of siege damage if left alone, but many of them, such as Sylvanas for example, can now properly fight back while also having more independence from teammates. So while they may have taken a hit in their sieging ability, they are no longer one trick ponies like they once were.
As for why it happened, well, hopefully someone else more knowledgable will not just give the correct answer but correct my theory:
They steadily reworked the heroes for the competitive scene to make the games more flashy, energetic, and fun to watch. Watching 1-2 specialists gnawing on lanes all game and not participate, or if they did participate it wasnât all that impactful, with teamfights or skirmishes wasnât as engaging.
Now if the above is wrong or partially wrong please correct me on that.
