I felt I have not been as active lately, so I’m wondering how everyone is doing. I know a lot of the regulars don’t post as much or moved on to other interests.
I do wonder if there is a place most of the awesome regulars are hanging out at now.
Anything exciting to look forward to?
Pick up any new hobbies?
I have been working, trying to make as much overtime as possible to speed up my savings. I’m trying to de-clutter my home and make other improvements to hold me over till I ultimately move to a house somewhere quiet.
I’d like to invest in a row machine at my place so I can work out. I may go with the Concept2 or Peloton Row.
I can’t wait to see what the Steam Deck 2 is going to be like.
I’m going to buy a Miyoo Mini Plus so I can play some of my favorite handheld games like, Pokemon, Wario Land, Metal Gear, Kirby’s Dream Land 2, and many more.
I am pretty good on my end.
Despite it being technically a no-no where I live, I been learning how to lockpick. I find it fascinating, but where I live it is in the same vein as having illegal substances on you, but am doing it anyway due to it being both interesting and practical.
Setup standing desk in living room so now I am using a 50 inch smart t.v as a monitor. Sound is better since the move. I found myself getting far too restless sitting in my gaming chair.
Tunneling the snot out of skyrim again (steadily tinkering on a Sylvanas skin that has already eaten 10+ hours despite mod presets) with me winding up having to update the game and go through the whole snoozle of getting the mods and skse working again. Suck on a cactus Todd.
HotS is kind of on the backburner right now. Still getting used to playing it on a big screen.
Tried seeing if I could do pull ups for the Murph Challenge, but due to my left shoulder I am unable to do more than a handful (granted I can knock them out faster than ever before) so I am unfortunately not able to take a crack at it again despite hating the cardio portion.
Got around to getting the Black Beard drop in laser device for the rifle so I can practice indoors. Been plinking with that. Archery I started doing this year with it being a learning experience. I would like to get into tossing tomahawks again. Used to lob them at dead trees for hours at my parents place.
Writing. I am always writing. I write fanfictions–serious as well as dumb as hell–with no desire to publish them. Alternating between a Star Wars (a combination of in depth expansion on lore and comedy) and a Warcraft one (full on joker write) that keep me busy.
I would like to get back into drawing, but it only takes minutes for my write hand to go numb, which frustrates the snot out of me.
German I studied for a bit, before swapping to spanish, but both are on time out right now. Weirdly I find german easier to retain and learn than Spanish.
Rowing machine is a good near full body workout. It hits everything–albeit not optimally–but if you are short on time and can spare 10-20 minutes its rather hard to beat, just throw in some dumbbells for a few other workouts and you got everything covered. If you are looking for a calorie burner though a stationery bike or fan bike will be superior while having much better recovery than jogging/running on a treadmill or anywhere.
Or if you are on a budget and want something unconventional: Get a sledgehammer and a beefy tire. You can do all sort sorts of workouts with a sledgehammer without smacking something, but swinging one repeatedly onto a a good sized tire that you can get out a junkyard can build muscle and build up your cardio resist. Can find youtube videos on em.
If a sledgehammer is too much, just get a big beefy stick or handle, or a bunch of them, and just feel what you can handle to then work with it.
I did something similar to this, but far less useful. I got a balisong a while back. It’s sharp AF and I taped up the blade so I don’t cut myself. Which I did once with the blade just slightly bumping my knuckle. I learned to do 4-5 basic tricks. It was fun, and I would much rather get a trainer instead of a real blade to learn it.
I would think there would be too much head and eye movement. I recently learned that gamers would prefer smaller screens so that the entire view is visible without having to physically move your head and eyes too far.
I’m 6’2" and I can’t buy a cheap compound bow that would fit my draw length. I did want to start out with a cheaper bow before moving up to a big boy bow. They are also very expensive at the moment.
Plus, I need much more strength to pull the weight. I’m far too weak. So I do hope the row machine improves that aspect. So I would have to wait on that hobby.
I wished I had the patience to practice and be a better artist. Namely in human anatomy.
I want to visit Japan next year, and I want to learn some Japanese. I’m just worried I’d go there and be completely incapable of communicating and getting around. I would much prefer to go with a buddy that knows Japanese and English.
Definitely a plan I have done some research, on exactly what you said. A Bike would be awesome to do some calorie burning while doing something else.
1 more year until I can add Dr. in front of my name. This past year has been especially brutal in terms of work/life balance. On top of that, I have 2 jobs: one in retail pharmacy and the other at a hospital.
Burnt out from work, on a two week ‘break’ of sorts and hoping to become a morning person again (schedule wise). Celebrated my sister’s birthday over Discord and jackbox, getting back into parkour next week, mountain of laundry I need to wash.
Queue times were too high for Leoric so I went Arthas. First round was easy, last two were hard. Night was good all things considered!
I was going to go for sub 50 pound draw pull but a coworker talked me out of it. Mine is a bit stout on the pull but I just chalk that up to not being used to it more than anything.
That’s the one that I ordered but is now only 40 pounds max for their selection.
Oh I am horrible at it. Best drawing I ever done is a TNT box from Crash Bandicoot, and mine looks worse than the old playstation graphics.
I was in that boat when I went to Switzerland years ago. Lots of pointing and gestures to get the point across in a small town. Also not just language barrier but culture barrier as well.
Bikes, especially fan bikes, have the highest calorie burn capability out of any workout or fitness equipment. Ellipticals are not quite as good but for some people they are easier on the knees as opposed to bikes.
If the goal is just to burn calories and work on cardio then time wise bikes (stationary or otherwise) are by far the best option. At a decent pace a person can burn in twenty minutes on a bike what they would burn in an hour and a half doing weights.
While im not a “regular” by any stretch I wil reply anyway.
Im currently looking foward to getting “back” into drumming (last time I played different percussion instruments including the Drumkit was in elementary school).
Also continuing to grind CO in Spelunky 2 (PB is 7-44 out of 7-99)
Another time consuming obsession of mine is trying to find non sketchy Black Metal bands with halfway “decent” lyrics as you might have seen in the Music thread.
I’m doing pretty good, and I wouldn’t consider myself a regular, but whatever.
I’m working on my PharmD stuff, and reading anatomy textbooks. It’s exhausting, tiring but exciting and challenging, and I’ve been putting it off for a while and now Im doing it.
No. I’m still working on my old hobbies. I have a big reading list I started and want to finish, including ‘Dune’ (Both movies were ill), Music is History - Ahmir ‘quest love’ Thompson, Tremors - teju Cole, and Moby D*ck - Herman Melville.
I’m always working on my music production stuff. I like finding new record stores and finding obscure vinyl records and sampling them into my MPC. I played some of my stuff for my cousins over Christmas and showed them pics of my set up and they thought it was awesome. They’re about 8 years younger than me, not that big of a gap but it was cool.
Sounds cool. I don’t know about rowing, Peloton in general has a good reputation for their other equipment. I mostly run and would like to get back into biking.
Nice, I always wanted to play Metal Gear, but this all sounds cool.
Hi there ! It’s nice to have some news from everyone and to see that everything seems mostly all right !
I’m also coming back from a break I had to take. Little disclosure here, I’m struggling with d…g addiction for years, so I had to go to rehab during those firsts monthes of the year. I’m back home now and I have to find new and healthy habits to fill my days. If there are people in the same case, I want to bring this positive message: yes, this is possible to get trough this ! But it’s important to ask for help.
I have several projects but to keep it short, I’m currently writing a novel and I’m working on an investigation video channel. I still find some time to play Hots, this is my way to thank me after a hard day of work !
I recommand the album Autumn by Codworld, and, even if it’s not black metal, the band Sopor Aeternus and the ensemble of shadows. Les Fleurs du mal is a good album to discover this unique project. Both are one-man band, and both are german. One last band as you are into drumming, Lorna Shore (the EP To the Hellfire) will give you chills, or at least I hope so ! If you have some recommandations of you own, I’m all ears !
I’m addicted to nicotine and it’s pretty bad. It started out trying to understand why my friends smoked when they hated it. So I tried it out and now I’m enslaved by it. So, I understand the psychology behind it.
Honestly, I love it and would never quit if I didn’t have all this medical knowledge nagging at me to quit. I am currently using nicotine lozenges which are good and useful, especially at the hospital where I can’t just step outside and smoke (vape). However, at home, I predominantly smoke because it’s hardwired into my routine.
Good, though I just coughed up 1300$ to get new shoes and stabilizers for my car. Mike is so needy. Good thing I don’t pay for gas.
Other than that, I’m playing Unicorn Overlord. Near the end now. And I just want the warm weather to get there already so I can take my paddle board out.
