That is the biggest reason why report system is flawed. You get banned becasue they found something toxic you said 3 years ago and then use that to justifie a ban.
Tell me have you not had any good games I only see you post about all the potatoes you end up with.
Certainly you must had at least 1 good game the past few days.
Heâs a pro potato farmer, game gives him potatoes he makes vodka⌠Oh wait, thatâs what Iâd want to do after playing with too many full orb/glass cannon Li-Mings!
I do remember seeing your link to Microsoftâs policies so Iâm aware of what youâre talking about.
Itâs not a matter of whether â2nd grade insults are too much to handleâ but more of choice.
Not seeing it > seeing it
If given the choice, Iâd rather not see it.
Despite that, Iâve never been so much as silenced in HotS, let alone banned and all I do is solo queue.
And yet, here you are making this thread so I guess it does serve as an inconvenience. Good.
My only problem with the report system is the ease at which itâs abused. It definitely needs an upgrade so that it can be âsmarterâ about automated bans. However, I donât have a low budget solution to this problem so it is what it is.
that is why i said what i said in the very beginning of the post if you cared to read it, that i KNOW they will not do this BUT IF THEY DID this is WHAT I WOULD EXPECT of a reworked report system/ a near perfect one. there is way to many flaws with the current one and a CHEAP semi solution would be outright remove it, more pros than cons
Hmm. Some good ideas here. I think another big thing missing is that there seems to be lack of a decent feedback loop as to why someone receives a punishment. Itâs a good learning opportunity lost which often results in in the offender blaming the situation instead of inward reflection. They often say stuff like:
Why did i get banned? All i said was:
Or,
The reason for my ban is because im surrounded by:
Now i love video games; I love them with a passion. You guys (and most others i play online with) are passionate too. It really sucks that we treat each other so poorly though.
I wonder if gaming companies consult with psychologist to help solve the root problem? I was watching a youtube video about a guy who helped a homeless person by changing his cardboard sign. Instead of the usual message âPlease help me, im homelessâ, he changed the sign to âIf you do just one good deed today, think of meâ.
The homeless guy went from making $10 a day begging to around $150 a day.
The reason for the success was because the sign went from focusing on the homelessâs guys situation to instead be about making the person walking by feel good about themselves.
Maybe we need slogans like that on our loading screens to remind people to treat others wellâŚbut done in a way that focuses on themselves so there is incentive. Some examples could include:
âDo you like winning? Keep things positive so your team mates continue performing their bestâ
Or,
âDid a team mate make an epic play? Type out how awesome they were in party chat. Who knows, people might pay attention to your legendary performances too?â
Instead of perma banning accounts from play just perma ban their chat if they donât get it together. Reviewed by a human for perma but just mute the whiners is all they need as a punishment.
I like your idea very much, and support it, but unfortunately, thatâs not even close to be enough, my friend. I agree how you say stuff has an impact, and a nice, smart message can improve things, but believe me when I tell you I always try to be nice and encourage people in the proper way, but to battle the mentality goes way beyond that.
Per example, just a couple of days ago I was playing as Nova in Braxis⌠and thatâs it, that was âmy faultâ it seems, since this other guy (a playing Orphea) started to insult me just for the sake of insulting Nova, âcause he didnât like Nova and didnât wanted her in his team (regardless that I was top damage of the game and we actually won the match, carrying this guysâ with his 9+ deaths and 2nd to lowest damage in game as an Orphea), heck he was so snowflaky toxic that the other players started to call him back in my defense.
The most funny part is, even if I ignored him, he surely 100% reported me for something (probably every option in the report menu), because I killed the tank on the other team (a Blaze), literally, because I killed the tank⌠he immediately said âyou are on the tank, wtf is wrong with you? you useless Novaâ and stuff like that, nonstop the whole match (he got gank-killed by a Hanzo in the other lane, and was somehow angry with me because of that). I, obviously replied with a deserved âdude, just shut up and playâ, which after that he stopped playing for like 2 minutes, reporting me⌠WTH?!
So, I hope you realize with this sole example (out of many I can give) that is not our own behaviour as normal players, but is the mentality which generates the real toxicity in the game, and the reason why the report system is actually broken. There are way more false reports than anything, but because the system is automated, it screws the good, well intended players, and rewards the toxicity of the real toxic ones. Thatâs why I propose Blizz should simply ignore reports from certain players (players that constantly report, not only reporting many people, but many reports on one single person as well), that could surely help. IMHO.
In the end, as long as the system pamper snowflakes, it will never get better (only worse) and that goes for any stuff IRL as well, not only HOTS.
The reporting system is total crap simply because it is totally intransparent. Whether I report someone or someone threatens to report me, I never get any feedback at all if there was an investigation and what the outcome was. So I dont know if there is a true report system at all or if the button is just cosmetic for people to vent their anger.
Step 1; CLEARLY define what constitutes Abusive chat in the ToS/EULA
Step 2; Instead of automatically actioning accounts, when an account reaches a threshold for account action it is then reviewed by staff to make sure the account is in violation of the new definition in Step 1
Step 3; people found to be constantly submitting false reports have the ability to report disabled for a short duration with each duration increasing, the same way silenced accounts work right now.
Step 4; Introduce performance-based MMR gains/losses at the end of a game.
For me this means the following
Wins will automatically net an MMR gain no matter how badly you played
Losses vs another team with an MMR average thatâs significantly higher than yours will result in no lost MMR for the losing team
The less deaths, more kills or respective stats which indicate youâre played your roll well=you get an MMR multiplier applied to boost your MMR further.
Consecutive wins will grant you an additional MMR multiplier
Allow players to disallow âextending match makingâ as this often times causes problems in modes such as QM. This way those who want fast match making get it while those who want fair match making also get it.
and lastly, make sure all GMs know that they are to make account action decisions SOLELY based on the step 1âs changes to the definition of Abusive Chat. No more acting on feelings, feelings have absolutely NO place in objective moderation.
that is now how silences work, they are like 2 or 3 silences that do increase in duration then it goes directly to banning then Perma ban.
Your thoughts on MMR is not the topic of this post, it is about how the report system should be not the matchmaker. many of your suggestions and more where in my OP that created this topic
MMR is related to the topic because it encourages toxicity. Toxicity and the reporting system is a very complicated problem that involves a lot of systemic issues including the MMR system and how it promotes smurfing due to low server population, which in turn causes huge issues with match making, getting people frustrated until they eventually lash out.
