This thought continues to bounce around my head as I continue to have very short QM queue times. There are usually around 170 people in general chat but how many active players are there?
None of us knows, not as many as was, could and should.
For sure, I am just curious.
We are legion!
As Kara said, nobody really knows. The US and EU servers are pretty healthy, but smaller regions only QM survives.
and I say QM for me is a good judge as this is the mode I almost have exclusively played for my 7 years in HoTS, so that is why I mentioned the queue times being fast.
There are more than one genchat and players are split across those rather than one filling up and then starting another.
If people want to try to estimate a populace, they could try plugging high-pop and low-pop games uploaded to parsers for a specific span of time, and then multiply that by 10 or so (10 players per game$ and then estimate if HP — or the like — get 5% of the games or whatnot.
It wont include ai or custom that way, but one can estimate thousands better than hundreds with it
It used to tell how many was playing the game in real time but is now gone long time ago.
For all the talk and whining of “No new characters” and “dead game” and such, i’m still enjoying the game as much as i ever did since i started playing 3 years ago.
