Anyone got any ideas of when they’re going to shut this game down? You know it’s coming. I think a year, or maybe when they need some more developers on another project. They failed to beat LoL so they’ve basically set this game out to sea to drift off into the sunset, it’s just a matter of time before they cut a hole in the hull and sink it.

What do you consider as “ded gam”?
Because there are a ton of games with active players despite the zero updates.
HotS will probably has updates for longer than just a year.
Also what a dumb thought that games are ded or failed because they aren’t the #1 in their genre. HotS is the third best moba and there are a lot more than 3.
It’s also has growing communities and popularity on reddit iirc.

HotS will be on maintenance mode for as long as people play it, I imagine it is relatively cheap just to keep ticking over with only the basic of maintenance.

I never said that games are dead because they are not number one in a genre, I said Blizzard abandoned the game and it will most likely be shut down soon. Remember Activision is one of the most predatory game companies out there, with their acquisition of Blizzard we have seen a shift towards quick easy cash, rather than long term sustainability. It was Activision’s increased oversight that led to these decisions that ended HotS. HotS is a dying game because it has no developers and they aren’t managing formats anymore. Quickmatch is a clustercluck of chaos these days, no fun at all. Ranked has long queue times because the goal of making it to masters is no longer there. This game will be gone, it’s just a matter of when, not if.

They will never do that. Lots of old games are still running even with a small playerbase, so as long as there are people playing the game, it will be alive.

This. Blizzard prides itself on preserving it’s games, so hopefully that plays into our favor here. What HotS is in danger of, however, is cancellation of new content.

This is a very naive idea, even if the game is more dead than you can imagine (by numbers of players etc) the bad publicity that shutting the servers down and removing it from the launcher which is mandatory if they shut the servers is a bigger cost for a company like blizzard than to keep it maintenance mode with 2 developers that only type 1 page for patch notes every 3 months and keep the servers up.
EDIT: i am not saying that the game will not die, i am saying that even if it dies they will keep the face its still alive and doing fine, yeah sure our game is a small niche but our players love it and still grow!

well you see, first you make the game take up a cursed sword designed to steal its soul, then you compel the game to put on the helm that your spirit is trapped inside, then— tldr i think the point that it’s definitively dead is when it rips its own heart out to rid itself of humanity

Several servers persist for a number of blizz properties, and unlike those, HoTs still has the potential to bring money to blizz (hi D2 bot farmers) and, as dota 2 demonstrated, moba games could be milked for years without new content, show off a new paintjob, and revitalize their game.
The capacity for the same doom-sayers to keep coming year after year and keep claiming the game only has one more year left keeps on demonstrating how little people pay attention and refuse to learn to observe patterns better, stop moving the goalposts, and stop wasting their time with claims that are redundant to assert, if they were true.
Its just more crappy troll tripe by people who’s (likely) sad lives keep them in a stoop where they hope to find something that fails “harder” than they do at a fleeting chance of pulling anything else into the mire with them.
as otherwise they would evidently have anything else better to do than to continue this farce over and over again.

Where do you people get the idea that if they moved some resources out of the staff, then the game is dead?
Moved some resources, didn’t replace them, slowed the update schedule, completely ended HGC support…
