I am not a high level. Around 130 or so, but I have played LoL and Dota 2 and pretty much know how to play. I can do the hero mechanics and have a good concept of the macro game. But every game I just get stuck with people who have no clue. usually not the whole team but at least one or 2. When I complain in QM or Brawl, I get told if I want to “try-hard” then do ranked. But ranked is the same. People steal picks in draft. Noone plays a tank or healer. If I do, the dps just proceeds to int the entire match. It’s a 50/50 shot if someone on my team AFK’s or not. Is this game just dead and I should go back to Dota?
You don’t. Find a decent party of 5 people (check their win rates in human modes and make sure they’re all over 50%) then, and only then, press Ready.
This game is designed to be played in a party. There is even a voice chat function (although rarely used by others than 5 stacks). You get bonus XP for playing in a party too.
Unless you are GM#1 you wont have enough solo impact to carry the various trolls, afks, feeders the matchmaking throws at you all the time. Play in a party and avoid them completely.
I feel like win-rate doesn’t mean anything in this game. My win rate is horrible for the above mentioned reasons. I feel like all win-rate tells you is either A) how lucky or are or B) how much you play with a whole team that knows what they are doing (as you mentioned above). Case in point with my last match just now, the Samuro shows first, but doesn’t lock in. The enemy picks Samuro last (right before our guy) so he just lets the time run out. So after being in Q for 5+ minutes, I now get to wait another 5 minutes to play. EDIT: maybe win rate means something at higher levels.
Depends how low you mean and how big your sample size is. Win rate over 50 games means nothing, but over 1000 it means a lot.
If your win rate is 39% after thousands of games then it’s pointless to blame other players. Your presence on average is making people lose.
Generally people who are in their intended rank or MMR bracket are around 48-52%. The extremely good players may go as high as 60-65%, but those are Grand Masters.
Screw it. I’m uninstalling. It’s just so bad I can’t play anymore. I appreciate you trying to be helpful. You are more help than 1/2 the players in the game. This last match I got a Li Li who used unstoppable on CD whether it was needed or not so she didn’t have it when someone actually got CC’d. She then proceeded to do < 50K healing which was less than the enemy team’s Uther. I will be banned anyway since I got tilted and cussed her out. So good luck with HoTs all. I’m sure you will be better off without me.

You wont be even close to banned for tilting in one match. It takes a lot of reports to even get a silence.
If you ever decide to come back or not uninstall, try searching for a party of 5. It will have a major impact on your game experience (and win rate), since you will never have to deal with that kind of player again.

Find a game where people know what they are supposed to do.

Play that game.
If you recently started playing, it’s normal that you are matched with inexperienced people. Just wait a bit.
But I’m not inexperienced, just have a low level account. But I’m not playing through hundreds of sh*t matches just to hope I get a good one in the future. I’ll come back if they fix matchmaking or figure out how to separate those who actually want to try vs those who don’t. I understand that there are different skill levels. Playing with less skilled players, I don’t really have too much problem with. It’s those that just do dumb stuff (like Li Li above) and have no use for advice. Early in the Li Li game I was nice her. Told her to hold down Q for more healing. Told her to try to stick with the group to heal us, etc. She proceeded to do zero of that. That’s not a less skilled player playing badly. That is a someone who doesn’t even want to try and that’s what tilts me. So
As far as the game is concerned you are. New players get matched with new players. Every game does that.
You don’t need to be GM#1, you just need to be better than the enemy team and the bigger that gap is the easier it becomes. I can easily carry bronze games (it doesn’t even matter what my teammates pick, no need for tank/support) and i am no where near GM#1.
This game is also not designed that one player alone should be able to win it - this only works when you outclass the enemy team by far (which should not happen because matchmaking).
I believe this to be true. Playing more and more might help you get teammates that are closer to your skill level than what you are getting now.
That’s why I used GM#1 as an extreme example - unless you are that player you can’t outclass everyone in every single match you play. To “solo carry” you should be multiple leagues above the enemy in skill.
Which makes partying up a good proposal for the average player. No need to ‘carry’ afks, trolls and feeders. Just nice clean games with 4 regular players.
Yeah. Like i said, I’m not going to play hundreds of matches on the chance that it might get better. When 9/10 matches are just horrible, what’s the point. Even when I win a match, it’s usually so one-sided I’m assuming its not anything I did, it’s because the other team just got more trolls or leavers. They need to implement some sort of skill rating system and more harshly punish AFKers and leavers.
It wont get better. Ask anyone who played here 4, 5 years. I played 12k matches vs humans and those trolls, afk’s, flamers and people who refuse to play, reappear every 2-4 matches or so when you play solo.
Or they sit in spawn and disconnect. If you’re unlucky you get them many times a day. If you’re lucky you don’t see them all day.
Why not try playing in a party so you can avoid them?
Your odds of getting a bad game in a premade party of five is 0%. Only reason I don’t do it every time I log in is it’s time consuming to find parties.
how do you find a party? you just spam general chat?
Try these channels:
/join General
/join LFG
/join Storm League
Then say “looking for qm/brawl/sl/unranked group”. Also try turning on the party finder (tick box in main screen), or try joining random parties in the party finder and check people’s profiles to find a party you like.
The more chat channels you join the more people will show up in party finder. If you leave all channels it will only show people on your friend list.
Of course, the ideal way would be forming a party from people in your friend list, but sometimes there aren’t enough friends online.
Every team based game you play will be the same.
You must be very low MMR in LOL to struggle in HOTS so much. It is easier to carry in HOTS.
When I started playing HOTS, I got to diamond with around 65% winrate since I played LOL at a reasonable level (diamond 1 / masters). I got flamed for being a smurf but I was like “nah I am genuinely level 70”, I think I hit Masters at around level 120 ha. My recent training acc got to diamond with 73% winrate.
If you struggle in ranked then don’t blame the team, you can win 80% of the games so concrete on getting better yourself.
During the last 3 days I played healer on QM and was mostly matched with 4men teams who had 30-42% OVERALL winrates and 0-20% win rates on their chosen heroes. Guess how much fun is be top damage in your team, massively outheal the enemy support and still miserably lose because of the matchmaker.
I don’t get why do the matchmaker have to assemble teams with so wide skill range. They could win 50% of their games against similar potatoes, but nononono, it’s better completely ruin the game for someone if s/he has the chance to carry them sometimes. It’s not fun at all, even I manage to do it.
You never will, especially not in QM. QM is solely on you to win. If you lose, you didn’t carry hard enough or play well enough.
