How can we solve the early GG mentality?

Its no surprise to any one there there are alot of mentaly weak players who gives up at the first sign of hardship or turn toxic the moment they die.

But im really wondering , as a community , how can we solve that ? How can get get that mentality to always give out of this game and get people to fight for a victory even when as unlikely as it may be ? At least have the pride to make it difficult for your enemies .

I think that this sort of thing starts with the individual. When someone is positive and optimistic it’s easy for everyone else to be positive too. So things like, “nice try all!” Or “we’ll get it next time!” might help. And when someone is tilted, don’t be tilted back at them. But I think if teammates are kind and polite to everyone else, then people are going to be way less likely to have a fatalist mentality in games.

Cause when you give up, that’s when the game is really lost.

I think the best thing you can do is try to encourage your team, if you have to provide any input at all. Since the beginning of competitive multiplayer online gaming there has always been an “early GG mentality”, it’s definitely not something unique to HoTS.

Sometimes when my team is getting their teeth kicked in i’ll say “You know guys, win or lose it’s still been really fun playing with you”. That kind of forces people to acknowledge that while it is indeed a competitive game, it is still a game and we’re all there to have fun.

It’s not always a lie either. I have had losses that I genuinely enjoyed more than 12 minute stomps.

By getting ppl to understand how to draft, being more flexible with their picks as well as following their CHOSEN position.

I just pull a palytime and report all early gg’s for abusive chat. And yes, it’s abusive because it serves only one purpose; and that is to try and make the team lose.

Outside of reporting it, you really can’t. That kind of toxicity is omnipresent in any game, honestly.

As others said I think it’s really on people. Also because they don’t realize that in HotS there’s nearly no predetermined outcome. Just hard matchups and REALLY hard matchups.
So long you can just play better than the enemy just for a brief bit… you can make an opening.

I think the first step to eliminate this early GG mentality is for those to develop game sense. As for the second step, there’s none. It’s on the mentality of people. If they think it’s a waste to try against a giant barrier which is their current match then they won’t. There’s nothing you can do about that. Well, in milder cases they might get revitalized once you make a small bit of play but that’s more of your circumstance rather than something you deliberately have. You do your best anyways so whether you have a chance to shine and show the thrower this is not so hopeless or not is a tiny bit on luck.

blizz should hire a group of employees to trace the IP address of early GGers, then sneak into their house while they are asleep and tie em to a rock.

then put all them rocks on a burning boat and send it out to sea. problem solved!

blizz should hire a group of employees

Honestly that’s the least plausible part of your plan, given how reports are already handled.

That’s simply bad sportsmanship. We’re, actually, quite likely to get a lot of that simply because of who the demographic is – it’s mostly introverted and anti-social teens and adults between the ages of 15-35. Many of these people never learned to play team-sports positively.

For example, many children learn sportsmanship when they play sports at a young age because the teams are forced to say “good game” to each other at the end of it or something along those lines.

But, many people here never actually did anything like that. So, it’s completely new to them. Sportsmanship is a foreign concept lol

despite everyone being correct about what they’re saying “encouraging your team” and being positive to them etc. sadly there’s always that type of player’s who wouldn’t care if you’re being nice or not they’ll just be like “screw you we lost gg let end afk bye”

Yeah. That’s true. In any sport, even with people who are exposed to sportsmanship, you’ll come across someone who just isn’t having a good day or otherwise isn’t feeling inclined to acting on their best behavior. Considering it’s online as well, the anonymity adds to that.

The best thing to do is just try to not get pulled into it yourself and try to enjoy your game as best you can. Although, I know they can make it difficult to do that sometimes.

I’m not sure exactly, but I think one thing that’s really important is something that could be explained in the tutorial or in tips,
Just try to make it more common knowledge that the EXP from minions is the primary source of EXP
The reason for this is becasue whn you are losing in the fort/keep game minions will start pushing in area’s safer for your team to kill and that is the first means of catching up with power

“It takes no more time to see the good side of life than it takes to see the bad.”

Ultimately, it’s not really something you can throw employees at or really build a system to combat. It’s a problem with the players mentality.

A lot of players put a premium on the simple act of winning. And it does logically follow that you sit down to play a game with the intent to win… But a lot of players start linking ‘fun’ to ‘winning’ and that’s where they start getting salty. What gets forgotten is the fact that you can still play well and lose, someone could be better at playing your characters counter, some teams just gel together better, sometimes you’re just plain unlucky.

It’s not going to go away… and it’s commendable to want to try and engage and push back against those players, but there’s really nothing solid you can do unfortunately.

yeah and pretty sure there’s no need to “report them” because the game is already lacking players we don’t need more players to be banned just cause of them being “tilted” however feeders and afkers should be banned since they’re just there to ruin games so they’re not needed to remain. but if a person is just having a bad day why report them for that? the more player’s that get banned just cause some people are “sensitive” anything you say to them they insta report you cause they get hurt with whatever you say. pretty much it’s not necessary

Yes and no.
The 2 most interesting communities ive seen yet are the smash community and the souls games.

Smash : the mentality is always centered about becoming better . ive seen many tournament ive been in were if a player lost ,the first thing he would blame would be themselves . it would be along the line of "i screw up bad on that last stock "
Most of them were really friendly but there was always a bit of a thing where player would indicate they havent lost because the opponent was better then them but because they screw up and would point out all the mistake they did rather then the 1 or 2 decisive play the opponent did. To me that community is all about super high self accountability .
" Others can do it and win , you have no excuse but yourself if you cant " .
Of course ive seen salty angry players in tournaments but honestly they were actually the minority and people would often humiliate them in games until they would straighten up and stop acting like an angry 12 years old. Just look at how long the melee community has lived one , its a group that just refuse to die easily . sure the community isnt as big , but deffinitely alive ! And whats left are essentially mostly good players as all the bad ones weeded themselves out.

Souls : wether it be demons souls , dark souls 1 2 or 3. ( i dont know about bloodborn since actually never played it XD ) . That group has absolutely no middle ground. In those games you will either encounter some super nice people or the most dirty fighting and meanest one you’ll ever see.

But the common theme that you feel when you have allies is " were all in it together" kinda deal. You get judged on how well you play and sportman ship plays a big role regarless of which side your on.

With allies , even though the host or the sun bro is the weaker of the two , its all about figuring on the fly “what can you do to help” if your just dead weight , you’ll just be sent home . everyone has to contribute .

For the pvp aspect , sure theres always taunting involved but if i learned 2 things of souls so far its the following .

1- if someone bows before dueling with you , you better franking bow back ! :joy: other wise , you WILL die for it lol

2- if you invade someone who’s naked… Just leave , save yourself the trouble of going back to recover your souls later.

Overall souls game as a much bigger sense of pride for eveyone , everyone is aware that there are always a bigger fish then them and its a matter of time before they get it too but overall creates a much better community .

as a community we can’t solve that. Only blizzard can solve it by doing something about the snowball effect and blatantly imbalanced comps in QM.

All you can do is stay positive. Players who are gonna be negative regardless are, in all honesty, probably not gonna care about what you have to say anyway, so just keep it positive for the people around you.

Again , comps are rarely an issue , the players mentality are .

i mean, you say that. But I find most games are completely predictable based on (in order):

  1. Best merc capture
  2. best wave clear
  3. best combination of level 16 talents.
